To be worried about going into London on Saturday?

Taking our baby to London for an important medical appointment.

I'm a bit worried about civil unrest with the march; should I be? We were going to take train but I think we'll drive (DH used to London and street parking)

It's not quite in the centre

Can't imagine there being civil unrest. Traffic could be insane though - not sure that driving in is a great plan

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 18:53

God I wouldn't drive.

There was no civil unrest in October Hmm

More like a lot of Guardian readers queueing politely for Waitrose to open.

Kittykatmacbill · 21/03/2019 18:56

Don’t think there will be civil unrest! I do think there will be a lot of people and a lot of diversions can you make a plan b to park further out and walk / public transport it in?

Andonandonan · 21/03/2019 18:57

I’d think driving would be worse than getting the train.

FWIW we’re taking our dc (6 & 4) on the actual March. Which we wouldn’t do if we thought there was any greater risk of civil unrest than usual. These things are normally very well-mannered.

London's a big place! Unless you have to wade through a protest, you'll be fine!

Reluctantcommuter · 21/03/2019 19:00

Ok, thanks

Obviously being overly anxious!

Download the free Citymapper app. It "knows" where there are hold-ups and will route you round them.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/03/2019 19:05

Civil unrest? Eh? Are you serious? Do you struggle with anxiety? Seriously, there's nothing to worry about.

I'd suggest you go with your original plan and get the train. I live in central London and it feels like almost every road is being dug up or blocked off for construction. It's really bloody annoying and makes the traffic even worse than usual. I have a car but I travel on foot as much as possible as driving in town has just become an utter misery. I would guess that things will be worse than usual this weekend as roads will be closed / diverted for the demonstration / march.

Expressedways · 21/03/2019 19:07

There’s a good chance of civil unrest between you and DH if you drive! Not worth it, train will be considerably easier. And I hope the medical appointment goes well.

ChodeofChodeHall · 21/03/2019 19:07

It's going to be a very peaceful protest.

Thindragon · 21/03/2019 19:13

is it somewhere like the Portland hospital? if so you can go round the edge of the centre.

MrBobLoblaw · 21/03/2019 19:13

Agree with everyone above. Driving will be a total PITA, get the train/tube.

SleepDeprivedCabbageBrain · 21/03/2019 19:14

I'm taking my baby on the march! It will be fine.

Sparklesocks · 21/03/2019 19:16

London is absolutely enormous, you’ll be fine. But yes driving would be a huge hasske.

whiteroseredrose · 21/03/2019 19:18

Sorry, what March?

underneaththeash · 21/03/2019 19:19

Do not drive, if there are protests there will be road closures. You can always drive to the outskirts of London and then get the tube/train in. Which hospital are you going to?

badg3r · 21/03/2019 19:20

I would be waaaaay more concerned about the traffic than the March! Take the train/tube!

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 19:20

What march?! People's Vote

EustaciaPieface · 21/03/2019 19:20

It’s a peaceful march!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/03/2019 19:21

Where abouts are you going? Yes, another march buggering us up in central London - again (we had one last Saturday, a protest on Monday and this one on Saturday AND a half marathon on Sunday).

Trekkingbeyond · 21/03/2019 19:22

700,000 polite marchers for same cause last October, no trouble Smile

whiteroseredrose · 21/03/2019 19:22

Ah! Thanks. DS is taking his girlfriend to London this weekend. I had suggested a stroll around Parliament Square and Whitehall! Maybe not.

Ivegotthree · 21/03/2019 19:22

LOL at civil unrest!

Agree with all - DO NOT DRIVE

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/03/2019 19:22

No trouble just traffic jams!

coco123456789 · 21/03/2019 19:24

Traffic could be bad - we travelled in October half term when there was a march on and it took us 3 hours to drive 2 miles! And that was with DH knowing London well and trying the backroads to avoid road closures etc. definitely go on the train, and far more relaxing too!
