So I’ve found a lump in my breast, and I’m having really odd sensations in it like a tingling/burning feeling. I’m 40. My Mum was diagnosed with NC at 48 and 4 years later she was dead. I’m a wreck, I have a GP appointment this afternoon to start the process of getting checked out but I am terrified. I’m shaking, I’m imagining telling my kids I’m dying. I’m so scared. DH is working away and has a long drive home, I haven’t told him yet as I don’t want him to worry.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. It was an aggressive type. I had surgery , chemo and rads. I am 75 today, no recurrences to date xx

lmusic87 · 20/03/2019 16:05

Good luck OP, keep us updated xxx

MrsMozartMkII · 20/03/2019 16:55

A handhold from me lass.

ScatteredMama82 · 21/03/2019 10:15

Couldn't sleep last night, took a sleeping pill after a few hours of trying and as soon as I woke up the 'lump' was the first thing in my thoughts. How do you cope with the waiting? I was fine in work yesterday, and fine when I was busy with the kids but when I put them to bed and kissed them goodnight it hit me again.

Try to create a new routine for the evenings so that you can say to yourself “I need to water the lavender and take the dog out ten, nine, eight... times before my appointment,”
That’s what works for me when I have something nerve-wracking coming up.

Governoress86 · 21/03/2019 17:16

Try not to worry. I know it's easier said than done.

I was in the same boat in January. I found a lump in my breast and it was stinging and burning. I went to the Dr who referred me to the breast clinic.

I got my appointment through within a week. I had an ultrasound scan and they found 3 cysts in my right breast and 2 cysts and a mass in the other.

Hey did a biopsy on the mass and it turned out to be a fibroadenoma, which is a benign growth.

I know exactly how you are feeling, I was petrified and I rigourously check myself now.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/03/2019 21:52

@ScatteredMama82 I know from bitter experience that waiting is the worst! The first time I went through this, they didn't have the same day diagnostics and results system they have now. I went in in October, had a mammo, had an ultrasound, had a miserable two months AND Christmas before I got a letter in the January saying that the lump I had found was a fibroadenoma. It was TORTURE. I planned my funeral, I couldn't enjoy anything, I felt like I was living on borrowed time. Fortunately now things are far far better. Two weeks seems a long long time when you're living under the shadow, I know this, I've been through it four times now. I managed it by keeping very busy, focusing on kids, did loads of exercise because endorphins, drank wine, spent time with friends and family and this worked well with putting it out of my mind. I am a single mum, nearly 50 and my DS has only just turned 8, so for me, I had to control it because otherwise I'd have gone mad.

I said in my previous post that your symptoms sounded very similar to mine, the tingly uncomfortable feeling because it was a hormonal thing rather than cancer and that will be exacerbated because you're so stressed with it. All I can advise is keep busy, keep positive. Remember that 9/10 lumps are benign. Your odds are good...take care xx

jackstini · 23/03/2019 15:02

You've managed 2 more days, well done
Have you had a date yet and how did DH's exam go?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 23/03/2019 15:09

Oh OP, I've had the exact same thing this week and I've never been so terrified. I've been told to try and not think about the worst case scenario, a cancer nurse told me 9 out of 10 breast lumps that are refereed are non cancerous.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 23/03/2019 17:17

I have just been through this also...i got the all clear yesterday...my lump was a cyst but id spent the last 5 weeks convinced i had cancer...the nurse told me most women have cysts in their breasts xx

ScatteredMama82 · 25/03/2019 09:54

@Governoress86 thank you, I'm glad yours wasn't anything to worry about. Fingers crossed mine will be too.

@TheFormidableMrsC waiting so long must have been awful! I got my appointment letter through at the weekend, it's a week on Wednesday so 2 weeks +1 day since I saw the GP. I wish it was sooner but the weekend flew in and I didn't have much time to think about it so I'm keeping busy to make sure it's the 3rd April before I know it.

@WhenISnappedAndFarted I'm really sorry you're going through this too. It's awful isn't it? Have you got your appointment through yet? x

ScatteredMama82 · 25/03/2019 09:55

@jackstini - thank you! Every day is a day closer to knowing :) DH got on ok and it was lovely to have him home. He's worried obviously, but he's got a very level head and he's keeping me sane. x

ScatteredMama82 · 25/03/2019 09:56

@myusernamewastakenbyme that's great news, I'm so pleased for you. Why did it take 5 weeks? Were they not able to say for sure at your first clinic appointment?

OP posts:
lmusic87 · 25/03/2019 09:56

Waiting is the hardest part OP, just let yourself feel how you feel.

Myheartbelongsto · 25/03/2019 10:01

Last year I had the exact same burning sensation in my bread as you op, discharge from nipple and nipple had inverted. Had a golf ball size lump went to go who said I think we have much to worry about, sent my referral letter to hospital but app was for 3 weeks, doctor said too long let's try a different hospital. Faxed over my letter and was called within an hour, offered an app within two days. Of course I had worked myself into a frenzy and it was nothing!

After all that, it was nothing.

It was the burning sensation that made me go to the doctor.

Please try not to worry op, I know this is easier said than done.

Auramigraine · 25/03/2019 10:11

No advice but another hand hold and hug Flowers the waiting really is the worst part...... xx

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 25/03/2019 22:12

Hi there, am back!
Saw GP who referred me to an oncoplastic surgeon-fortunately we have private care so got in tonight. Had a one stop shop so saw surgeon, had a mammogram and an ultrasound-turns out it was a double cystic lesion which had joined together to make one mahoosiv one-so he stuck a huge needle in and sucked it dry-lots of gunk came out and lump disappeared! Pain much better but boob has a big dimple in.
But am so relieved-just off to bed for a good nights sleep hopefully as haven’t slept well in days!
Good luck to everyone else x🍀x

Condamine · 25/03/2019 22:42

That's fantastic news. What a great relief!

DarlingNikita · 26/03/2019 13:37

Wonderful, OP.

ScatteredMama82 · 26/03/2019 13:45

That's awesome news @MrsElijahMikaelson1 - I'm so pleased for you. You must be so relieved. I'm counting down the days until my appointment next week. My lump is still there, yesterday it wasn't sore, today it is sore again and my armpit feels 'hot'.

OP posts:
MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 26/03/2019 22:21

Thank you!

They told me that pain is actually a good sign, as cancer isn’t generally painful. Does your lump move at all and can you feel round the edges?

At most initial appointments they do a one stop shop thing so you see Dr/have a mammogram/then ultrasound of anything they find. He just said if it’s a cyst they will suck it all out (which they did) and if anything else, take a biopsy.

Most of my pain has gone today-I think maybe a lot of my pain was because the thing was so damn big and heavy so was pulling? Who knows.

Anyway, good luck for your appointment and will keep checking back xxx

ScatteredMama82 · 03/04/2019 14:33

I’m at the clinic now. Have had a mammogram so far, just waiting to see what it shows. I feel sick.
