women, a question.

not sure if it's the right place for this thread.but do women really complain about men leaving the toilet seat up?
having lived with only one woman (outside of family) i believed this to just be a stereotype from crappy american sitcoms. now a mates missuss is giving him an ear full about it. i reckon it's something she has picked up off tv but she is claiming that it's a legitimate complaint that women have and my mate is being unreasonable in not putting the seat down.
what say you?

Speccy - I think as long as they are happy that is all that matters. HEnce I will not not ask ds what is f'ing wrong with him...

I dont think there is anything wrong with men weeing sitting don either. I think the urinals are there so save space , time etc.

My ds stands or sits like awen says it depends how he feels at the time.
dh sits to pee if hes had a few drinks though so he doesnt pee on the floor. My baby usualy pees in my face or his own hair when I remove his nappy kitchen roll at the ready every time....

MamaMaiasaura · 10/07/2007 14:13

LOL I forgot that little boys pee on themselves. Remeber that with ds.

theman · 10/07/2007 14:40

"I see no-one has managed to answer why they should pee standing up."

well it's a hell of a lot easier, quicker and manlier.

but surely the only reason that is needed is ... because we can.

mother2b · 10/07/2007 14:46

i would prefere to pee standing up (obv not going to try it ) because my bum would have to touch the yukky germiness of the seat or hover awkwardly over the seat clinging on to the walls (i have bad balance)

yep, i would much rather just whip it out and make pretty patterns in the water

meandmyflyingmachine · 10/07/2007 14:49

I've never understood the hovering thing? Is there really a risk of catching some dread disease of the buttocks if you actually sit on a toilet seat?

Mrsshuvel · 10/07/2007 14:53

Amen - I wonder if i'm the offending missus. I have been giving my DP hell about the toilet seat for weeks now! I did have him trained to put the seat and lid down before flushing but he seems to have reverted back to leaving both up. The reason i go mad is because of the discusting particles from the loo spreading all over the bathroom. I won't leave my toothbrush in there because of this.

mother2b · 10/07/2007 14:56

i hover in yukky loos, dont really at home 9will wipe if there is spillage) but when in other loos (like work) i will put loo roll around the seat

Lauriefairycake · 10/07/2007 15:00

Urine is sterile FFS

I give seats a cursory wipe in public toilets if there is piss on them otherwise I don't care

There's waaaaaay more germs on the handle

suezee · 10/07/2007 15:02

wtf???????????? y r ppl so bothered about a fcukin toilet seat,at least its up and hes not pissed all over it

mother2b · 10/07/2007 15:04

yeah but period blood isnt sterile, i just dont like public loos [puke]

theressomethingaboutmarie · 10/07/2007 16:08

I have to agree with the poster about public loos. They are generally disgusting and I don't give a damn if urine is sterile, I don't want other peoples pee on my backside and bits thanks .

We were travelling back home from a trip to Devon at the weekend and I managed to get the whole way home without having to stop for a pee (I really hate public loos so much). I'm 27 wks pg so I thought that was quite a feat. Probably not so brilliant for my bladder etc but far more preferable to using a public loo.

lilylilyrose · 10/07/2007 16:10

Mine doesn't lift it up...he must have a really good aim as I've never seen a 'splash' in 9 years.....

thomcat · 10/07/2007 16:10

He rarely leaves it down but I wouldn't complain if he did. He doesn't moan at me for having to lift it up after I've used it so why should I moan at him if I had to lift it down again.

I have a list of a hundred thigns he does that annoy me but loo seat leaving up isn't on thelist.

Leving dirty plates on work top on top of the empty dishwasher is far more annoying!

thomcat · 10/07/2007 16:13

oh and my DP quite often has a sit down wee, why not, esp in the morning when you're all sleepy. It makes me smile. If he needs a wee when i'm in the bath he'll come in, sit down and have a wee and a chat with me.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 10/07/2007 16:25

thomcat - that's quite sweet. DH and I often chat to each other if one's on the loo and the others bathing/showering. As long as he's not there pulling "poo-faces" and making smells, I don't mind if he uses the loo when I'm using the bathroom.

thomcat · 10/07/2007 16:27

Yeah but his leaving plates on top of dishwashed instead of in it isn't sweet!

edam · 10/07/2007 16:38

Seats should be left down and lids too - that's the way loos are designed. Looks messy with the lid up. Fortunately dh is well trained. Hate it when we have visitors and someone leaves the lid up.

And the line about bacteria being sprayed around when you flush is true.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 10/07/2007 16:40

We used to have a friend (notice the past tense) who, when he used to come over to our place, would pee all over the seat and floor. He had a housekeeper at his place so I guess was used to being filthy and disrespectful.

rey · 10/07/2007 16:44

Men are from Mars Women are from Venus or whatever it is so this is one thing I learned to live with very early on and never bother to mention it. Like so many things just always thought of it as "a man thing" like not being able to multi-task when it counts!

emj23 · 10/07/2007 19:09

Just wanted to interrupt for a moment and say thanks to the person who explained how to change nicknames, I've been meaning to do it for ages because there is another MNer with almost the same name and people seemed to think we were the same person. Hurrah! Also, is it weird that my five year old DS still pees sitting down? Should I be encouraging him to start standing up in case people think he's weird?

MamaMaiasaura · 10/07/2007 21:35

tis ok rey

sazzybee · 10/07/2007 21:41

emj23 - my ex still peed that way at the age of 39

MamaMaiasaura · 10/07/2007 21:47

emj - let your ds do whatever He feels hapy with. My ds is 7 and afaik has not ever been teased for weeing sitting down. THink it is a rather stupid thing to tease someone about.
