not sure if it's the right place for this thread.but do women really complain about men leaving the toilet seat up?
having lived with only one woman (outside of family) i believed this to just be a stereotype from crappy american sitcoms. now a mates missuss is giving him an ear full about it. i reckon it's something she has picked up off tv but she is claiming that it's a legitimate complaint that women have and my mate is being unreasonable in not putting the seat down.
what say you?

its something that doesnt even bother me, in my own home or others, as long as the feckin toilet is CLEAN. and everyone knows to leave it clean.
anyway did u evernotice that the seat when you lift it up can expose a few dried dribbles underneath.........hmmm

and i quote from that link "Apparently, every time you flush, aerosolized particles from the toilet float as far as 6 feet away. So flush with the toilet lid down - and get a new toothbrush."

ewwwwww

My dh always closes it because when he was a plumber he said he saw some realy disgusting things in many toilets . My ds sits to wee most of the time.
I find it stranger that my sil always leaves the seat up! Her dh actualy complains about it......

Everybody should close the lid of the lavatory before flushing - because little droplets of water spray out and it's very unhygienic.

I think that men view toilets in a quite different way to women. DH will never sh*t out of the house. So he waits all day and then comes home to pollute his family's air . Why? Territorial?

Also ds always washes his hands after the loo. I have been with many dp's who havent automatically done so and have reminded them.

gingeme · 10/07/2007 12:53

OrmIrian my dh never does either. How weird is that?

Never been an issue. He needs it up I need it down. Neither of us has any rights over it so it is what it is! Since dd2 has taken to trying to get in however seat and lid firmly down!!

My DP varies between sitting and standing, i think he sits mostly but that is because he's a little idle

but when he does stand he pees on the seat

ok a few points.
firstly women training your sons to piss sitting down? you really are setting him up for some complicated explanations later on in life.real men piss standing up.preferabbly against somethin (wall or urinal) and onto something (cigarette end in the urinal)

secondly:shitting at home is infinitely preferrable to outside of the hiome.it is your domain and you can relax and enjoy it.

thirdly:fine i'll change my nickname, just how do i do it?

fourthly:i would definitely race the self closing toilet seat, all men would.playing games while you wee is the best part of it.either writing something, moving something like a cig end along the urinal, eroding the urinal cake or racing the toilet flush

finally: i will never put the toilet seat down.i'm taking a stand for men on this one

My DH pees sitting down so we don't have the seat-up issue. Then again, I'm not even sure if he's actually even peeing most of the time - I think he's just sitting in there with the AutoTrader getting some peace

I grew up with four brothers and to train them to pee in the loo rather than around it, my parents put a ping-pong ball in the water for them to aim at. Didn't work - they ended up either a) missing it and in their gusto to chase it around the water, would pee here, there and everywhere or b) they would hit it and pee would splatter

In my old house, the cistern was set slightly too far forward, so when you put the seat up, it would staaaaaay... and then SLAM down!

Caused a few accidents but the boys still raced it

ds sits to go to loo because he wants to! He can wee standing up, but he said he doesnt like to. I am not going to call him a freakin hippy for not wanting to stand up! He does pee standing up if we are out and he goes behind a bush. Dont know what he does in the boys loos, although often he comes into the ladies if just me and him.

Thanks for changing nickname click on "my mumsnet" and then "registration details".

The race thing, ds races himself against the loo flush to wash his hands.. Guess this is a male thing then

My mother would. She does not allow my father to pee standing up. He doesn't even chance it when she is out of the house. Pair of nutters that they are.

This is control freakery. However, I do prefer the lid closed and object to having to touch the seat when I don't need to so I usually ask that the lid is kept shut. Can justify with many reasons, such as children drop things in there, toothbrushes getting sprayed each flush, etc.

that is a bit controlling new life. DP pees standing up (also pisses on the floor too but thankfully got stone flagged floor). I let ds get on with it. What ever he is happy with imo.

I give up with ds - just glad he makes it to the toilet. Is a bonus if it goes in.
