Boyfriend randomly ill last night?

I'm thinking it's not a bug (as A he's only had 3 bouts of diarrhoea- though I do understand it's painful) and B no vomiting.

I've given him Imodium and hopefully that'll work- he seems to think it's alcohol withdrawal symptoms? He was only drinking 1-2 ciders a night for a while (I don't drink myself but he wasn't ever drunk so I wouldn't say he has alcohol withdrawal?).

I'm a literal germaphobe so this is my worst nightmare, we all get random diarrhoea every now and again and his mood is fine/laughing etc but I'm so scared he'll start vomiting and I'll get it!Sad

I’d say it could well be a bug in which case Imodium will just make the situation worse.

Make sure he puts the lid down when he flushed, don’t share bodily fluids and practice good hand washing.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:03

@thaegumathteth good tips, thank you. I'm literally freaking out! He's taken another Imodium and hasn't been again and is laying on his stomach so surely can't be that bad?

He was complaining of constipation for a day before. Could just be his body clearing itself out?

I have so much work this week I can't afford to miss if I get ill!

It could be a bug.

Last week I was fine one minute and then was taken over by a terrible pain in my upper tummy. Had a few bouts of diorehha but no sickness. The pain lasted the rest of the day and then I was fine.

DocusDiplo · 18/03/2019 08:12

Don't give immodium, body needs to flush thr bad bits out. Lots of water.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:14

@DocusDiplo I suggested Imodium as he was complaining of feeling dehydrated as he'd already been 3 times. I think if it's a bug it'll work it's way out anyway with more diarrhoea.

@Footsall that's random! I did have similar a few weeks ago but put it done to IBS, really bad pain, 2 bouts then took an Imodium and it stopped.

I hate getting ill and he never gets sick so it's really unheard of for our household. (No kids either)

BlueSkiesLies · 18/03/2019 08:17

You’re freaking out over another adult having three loose movements???

DocusDiplo · 18/03/2019 08:19

I have always heard Imodium stops you 'going'. Maybe look up NHS advice. Get well soon . And trip to GP if this is regular.

Dollywilde · 18/03/2019 08:21

Honestly, Imodium is there for when you have no choice - like a camping trip or if you have to drive home after getting ill. If he’s dehydrated then water or something like Dioralyte is a better idea. Sounds like a normal tummy bug to me though, 3 instances of diarrhoea isn’t too worrying Smile

Dollywilde · 18/03/2019 08:22

(Sorry, I know Imodium use is different if you have IBS, I meant that in the context of tummy bugs)

Obviouspretzel · 18/03/2019 08:23

Imodium doesn't just stop you going to the toilet.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:23

@BlueSkiesLies Yes, I have health related anxiety. It's not fun!

OP posts:
JustBeenNosey · 18/03/2019 08:25

I had this on Friday evening and once or twice on Saturday and was really random!

Might just be a 24 hour bug that's going around

morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:25

@Dollywilde Yeah I get what you mean, I usually go for Imodium due to IBS so suggested it to him as he has no other symptoms. It's hard to know really isn't it whether it'll do good or not!

He's asleep right now and I'm stressed and making my IBS flare up because I'm so anxious😂

OP posts:
morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:27

@JustBeenNosey sounds about right! Really random with no other symptoms! He was very pleased he now 'feels and looks thinner' Grin

He did eat an entire galaxy bar last night + malteasers so I think it may be diet related. (He's been eating crap lately and drinking extra)

OP posts:
ApolloandDaphne · 18/03/2019 08:27

It sounds like just a mildly dicky tummy. Nothing to worry about and certainly not requiring Imodium.

JustBeenNosey · 18/03/2019 08:28

@morningstress I'd been baking a cake on Friday afternoon and thought it might have been because I'd licked the bowl 😂😂😂

But then I had it on Saturday night as well with a bad stomach ache just before but I was fine throughout Saturday night and Sunday so god knows 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:31

@JustBeenNosey 😂😂 ah good old salmonella eh? I can't ever bring myself to lick the bowl, I'm too scared lol.

That's so strange, I hope it's just like yours, a weird few hours then gone!

OP posts:
JustBeenNosey · 18/03/2019 08:32

@morningstress I'm sure he'll be fine. He will have just been wanting some sympathy 😂

morningstress · 18/03/2019 08:35

@JustBeenNosey he's already asked for a cuddle! Cheek of him, I said not until he's gone 2hrs without the toilet as I want to make sure I don't catch anything. Though we're always together and obviously share a bed so I'm quite likely to catch anything anywaySad

At least we're both good at hand washing (probably excessive tbh!)

OP posts:
JustBeenNosey · 18/03/2019 08:36

@morningstress 😂😂😂😂 I don't blame you

viques · 18/03/2019 08:37

Water, more water, dry toast ,banana. That will sort him out. And hand washing as mentioned up thread. After 24 hours give him a natural organic yogurt without flavouring or sugar to help to repopulate his gut.

BertieBotts · 18/03/2019 08:37

Are you concerned about his alcohol intake - is that what you're really asking? You've mentioned the drinking twice now.

Luckingfovely · 18/03/2019 08:37

He's a grown adult and you're reacting like he's a PFB. Chill.

oohyoudevilyou · 18/03/2019 08:38

He did eat an entire galaxy bar last night + malteasers so I think it may be diet related.

Too much sugar affects my bowels, particularly cheap chocolate (probably due to the fat in it). I suspect that's the cause.
