Boyfriend randomly ill last night?

I'm thinking it's not a bug (as A he's only had 3 bouts of diarrhoea- though I do understand it's painful) and B no vomiting.

I've given him Imodium and hopefully that'll work- he seems to think it's alcohol withdrawal symptoms? He was only drinking 1-2 ciders a night for a while (I don't drink myself but he wasn't ever drunk so I wouldn't say he has alcohol withdrawal?).

I'm a literal germaphobe so this is my worst nightmare, we all get random diarrhoea every now and again and his mood is fine/laughing etc but I'm so scared he'll start vomiting and I'll get it!Sad

@Elephantina I'm so sorry you experience the same anxiety, ugh Christmas is the worst for getting ill! Sad I have no idea how I'll cope in the future as I'd like a child but I'm sure I'll scar them with my cleaning constantly!

He's okay, in good spirits (if not a bit grumpy) I think it's alright, he's in the loo atm though but to be fair on a normal morning he spends about 40mins in there on his phone anyway!

Just went to take the dog out for a wee, popped out the shop to stock up on bleach and anti bac. I've just once overed everything in the toilet, lounge, kitchen etc he may have touched.

Fingers crossed I'll be okay🤞🏻🤞🏻

I’m not sure DH would even tell me if he had 3 bouts of diarrhoea in a day, as we would both see it as a non event.
I know you have health anxiety, but as you are aware that this is not a normal reaction and is down to your anxiety then the logical thing to do is to seek help with the anxiety, not indulge it. You must know cancelling your plans for the day isn’t a rational response to your partner having a few loose bowel movements?

Elephantina · 18/03/2019 10:02

Don't be ridiculous Al2O3.

Everyone knows that a chestburster is xenomorph XX123a, and hasn't been seen in the UK since 1908. XX121 is the lesser arseburster, which immodium was designed for.

morningstress we are just messing

morningstress · 18/03/2019 10:03

@gamerchick to be fair to him, he's never ill and from what I could hear at the time (unfortunately😒) it was quite bad.

gamerchick · 18/03/2019 10:03

OP maybe it's time to tackle the health anxiety, he's totally taking the piss out of your fears. Don't fawn over him.

MT2017 · 18/03/2019 10:03

Op, if you are planning to have children and this is freaking you out I wouldn't even consider it until you have had this treated successfully.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 10:04

@SoyDora lol he didn't tell me, I heard and asked if he was okay.

You're right, I have calmed down a little and I will still be attending my commitments later unless things get worse. I really need to see my doctor again about this.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 10:05

@MT2017 I 100% agree. It's funny though as I'm fine with my nieces and nephew when they've had a cold/been ill from teething etc. I guess when it's in my actual home it's scarier.

@gnushoes I'm not don't worry! He's been stroppy since I got back from the shop, saying I'm insulting him by cleaning GrinGrin

morningstress · 18/03/2019 10:07

@NameChangeNugget what is two bob bits? I'm intrigued... Grin

Lovemusic33 · 18/03/2019 10:08

Doesn’t sound like a bug, he only went 3 times, hardly anything to worry about, happens to me every week or so and I put it down to something I have eaten that hasn’t agreed with me or even stress can cause it.

I am a emetphobe so understand your fear but in our house I don’t panic unless some one is actually sick, it’s pretty common for people to get the runs due to many different things.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 10:09

@gnushoes good plan, I had CBT privately a few years ago but not much came of it unfortunately. I really do know now thanks to you lovely lot that I'm being crazy! I need to get a grip if I want to recover and have a normal life, child in the future etc.

Urgh I’ve had what sounds like the same bug this weekend too. Came from nowhere, crippling pains and lots of weird tummy noises in between bouts too. But not one of those where you can’t leave the toilet, it feels quite mild for a bug. Seems to be lots of pain free time in between which keeps fooling me into thinking it’s over Confused Hope he’s better soon. If you do catch it, it’s not too bad as bugs go.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 10:17

@TwoleftUggs oh no, really hope you feel better soon! Thanks
I'm usually fine and would be okay if I got it as diarrhoea doesn't scare me (and I could lose a few lbs!Grin) but it's the prospect that it could get worse and turn into vomiting that has me all het up atm.

letsdolunch321 · 18/03/2019 10:21

I had a similar issue to you regards vomiting myself or anyone around me vomiting.

As I have children when these bugs came my doctor advised me to make sure the toilet handle/flusher is cleaned & door handles obviously floors and other areas too as germs are transferred by these especially if hands have not been throughly washed.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/03/2019 10:35

Dd had an upset stomach a week ago. I’ve had it over the weekend. I think it’s a bug. Just not the usual violent ones, where I can vomit about 15 times.

Lovemusic33 · 18/03/2019 11:43

I have survived 2 children/pregnancies (only sick once whilst pregnant and took me by surprise so didn’t have time to freak out), the kids have had some bugs and I have caught them a couple times. My GP gives me anti sickness meds which help. It really is a horrible phobia but don’t let it put you off having children.

KrazyKatlady · 18/03/2019 13:01

Can i ask what Imodium is for if you shouldn't take it for diahorrea? I thought that was what it was for??

morningstress · 18/03/2019 13:05

@KrazyKatlady that's what I thought! It's made to stop it!

OP posts:
gamerchick · 18/03/2019 13:12

If you have a bug then it's best to let the runny bum part play out. The body is trying to get rid of it, it makes no sense to bung yourself up. Of course sometimes it's unavoidable as life goes on but for the most part it's best to just let it run its course.

Immodum is good for IBS or when the bowel gets a bit trigger happy after illness and needs to be reined in.... Or the beer shits.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 13:38

@gamerchick beer shits? 😂😂

I'm not feeling great now, no toilet issues but my stomach is hurting and I literally feel so drained!

Boyfriend is back to normal though! Working from home and eating normally so I think it must have been something he ate yesterday.

OP posts:
Skittlesss · 18/03/2019 13:47

Oh no this isn’t good, you both need to seek help for your health anxieties. It sounds like he has it too - it’s not normal to immediately think having the shits means you’re withdrawing from alcohol... unless you drink more than he’s said OR you are attempting to gain sympathy/attention from the other person in some weird way.

thegreylady · 18/03/2019 14:00

I have this now! I suddenly got a sharp pain low in my abdomen and had to rush to the toilet. I have had about 5 bouts now (since 10.30). I took Imodium after the 3rd bout and it seems to have settled. I hope I am ok as I have a much wanted day out tomorrow.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 14:07

@Skittlesss haha no he definitely doesn't have health anxiety, he's so chill it's unbelievable! I think he said it to calm me down and give me a reason why he was ill in that moment.
He's fine now! I'm the one with bad pain but pretty sure mine is IBS/anxiety related as I don't need to keep using the loo. I had 2hrs sleep last night so its no wonder I feel crap today.

He only drank 2 max ciders a night for about a few months, he stopped a few days ago.

OP posts:
morningstress · 18/03/2019 14:08

@thegreylady oh no! Hoping you recover fine for tomorrow, what are you doing? My boyfriend is fine after Imodium too and is eating normally, working & is about to take the dog out.

Miraculous recovery since the Imodium this morning so it obviously helps as he had 3 bad bouts of it.
