Scallions is not an Americanism

I got accused today of using an Americanism. I said it's Irish, it became transaltantic after the famine.
Scallions in mash on st Patrick's Day is Irish. With cabbage and bacon of course. No Guinness but Irish coffees and beers and cava I was hosting

30 years in California and longer for Dh. He also says Green Onions.
I only heard scallions as a regional thing in UK. Not in Wales where we are and where most of the extended family are from.

Scallions is Geordie for spring onions. May also be US usage but there's loads of parts of UK where it's the usual word.

They are never scallions in Chicago, MissConduct. Always green onions, and the ones that are a little bigger are 'knob onions' in my local supermarket...

Swedes are both grown and eaten in Ireland, Kaboodler.

I’ve lived in the North East of England my entire life and never heard anyone call them Scallions! Always Spring Onions.
