To want to get piercings at my age?

HelenLaBloodyAnnoyed · 17/03/2019 22:48

I have always wanted my nose and navel pierced. Controlling exP didn't approve of piercings, so I didn't get them when I was younger. Now I'm 31, is it tragic if I get them pierced now?

At 45 I am planning a tattoo and getting my nose re pierced for my next birthday.

Ex didnt approve either so this a joint "Go me/Fuck you" present to myself.

My tattoo will be very meaningful to me, but will mean nothing to anyone else (apart from anyone who is a Sir Pterry fan and happens to see it which is unlikely as it is designed to look like an old burn scar!).

I would wait until you are finished breastfeeding, just in case. The chances of you contacting anything are small, but I would also want to avoid an infection if I could.

CanuckBC · 18/03/2019 04:53

As someone who has had nipple piercings, wait until done breastfeeding. It can amp up your sensitivity. Initial healing can hurt like a mother trucker and with a toddler and teeth, ouch! I wouldn’t do it while breastfeeding!

I had mine done before children then again after when I was divorce/ing. I did take them out as my body was rejecting them:(. I have chronic pain issues and my body just saw them as something else to deal with. I absolutely loved them though! The look and feel.

I got other piercings and 1 took and 3 others rejected. No more for awhile. I also got a tattoo. All since 2011. I am 44 almost 45😁.

You are never to old if it’s what you want!

Ploppymoodypants · 18/03/2019 04:58

Do it! I am 40, and am BF 4 month old baby. Just had nose piercing done about 3 weeks ago. I love it, so pleased.

Pk37 · 18/03/2019 06:55

I’ve just had my 5th tattoo and a Daith piercing . Go for it.
Have had my other piercings for a long time , started at 16 and tattoos at 18

SouthWestmom · 18/03/2019 07:03

I'd wait, purely because I've had two infected piercings and antibiotics as a result recently. The pain plus pills would not have made me want to breastfeed.

AuntieStella · 18/03/2019 07:10

Age shouldn't be a barrier at all

With fucking bells on!

Ageism is wrong, and it's all that lies behind this (wrong) idea that choices must be age appropriate. It's just bog-standard restrictive stereotyping. I's a deeply ingrained stereotype though, which is why it needs to be explicitly challenged.

OP do it!

hendal · 18/03/2019 07:21

Go for it OP!
I’ve just had both my Daith’s pierced and I’m 36 next month.
Admit I’m trying out the migraine relieving properties (so far so good) but also really like the look of them as piercings so figure it’s a win either way Grin

Mrsemcgregor · 18/03/2019 07:23

I had my nose pierced at 36! I love it and don’t regret it at all. Go for it!!

Applesbananaspears · 18/03/2019 07:27

I’m 45 and had a daith and rook piercing last year and am planning some more. Go for it

OpiesOldLady · 18/03/2019 14:02

Following this thread last night I've just got in touch with my usual piercer and booked a couple of more intimate piercings.

Squee! Can't wait!

stevie69 · 18/03/2019 14:08

Well, I had:

my belly button at 30
my nose at 40
my Medusa at 50

Doubtless some people deem it 'tragic' but do you suppose I give a fuck?

You want it, you have it. I love all mine if that helps Blush

ijustdontunderstandher · 18/03/2019 14:09

Do it! You’re never too old for a piercing

Drogosnextwife · 18/03/2019 14:12

Go for it op, I used to have my nose, tongue and navel peirced, took them all out while pregnant because they were irritating me and now can't get them back in, I wash I still had my nose stud. I love peircings and tattoos.

mollyblack · 18/03/2019 14:15

Definitely do it- do whatever you want!

I am 38 and got my first massive tattoo last year. One of my better decisions in life!

Alconleigh · 18/03/2019 14:24

Go for it. I had my VCH done at 38. I grant you, that's not one that many people see, but the point remains I think!

Sweetbabycheezits · 18/03/2019 14:29

Had my nostril done at 46, and my only regret was not doing it sooner! Go for it, OP!!

OpiesOldLady · 18/03/2019 14:35

@Alconleigh - my DP bought me that for my 40th birthday! I totally love it and am now contemplating labial piercings too!

pinkyredrose · 18/03/2019 14:38

OP what's the name of the beauty place?

Alconleigh · 18/03/2019 14:39

Isn't it fab?! So pretty and so much fun........

Saladd0dger · 18/03/2019 14:45

I’m 35 and Iv wanted my belly pierced since I was a teenager. I finally got it done last weekend.
Now I want to go back for more...

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 18/03/2019 15:01

I'm mid 40s and seriously considering a helix.

LoobyLou1976 · 18/03/2019 15:14

I'm 42 and have three helix piercings in a curve around my helix, a daith piercing and nostril piercing. At the moment I'm still trying to heal my daith which has been a total nightmare with piercing bumps/ granulation tissue, but I think its getting there! I also have two tattoos.

You are NEVER too old.
Not sure I would ever get any more (well, maybe tragus!) but who knows.

Go for it.

OpiesOldLady · 18/03/2019 15:26

@Alconleigh - oh yes! Have you got the curved bar or a ring? I still have the bar it was pierced with but I quite fancy the idea of a ring...

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 18/03/2019 15:47

Definitely do it! I'm late twenties and still wear my naval piercing (pierced in teens) and my nose stud. I love them both and will continue to wear them!

FYI on the nose, get it pierced with a stud and then change to a hoop once it's healed. Healing with a ring can be a nightmare.
