Make me want to scream with rage?!

No Sandra I don't care that you eat 17 muller lights a week and yes I hate you lady on the end who's eaten a Chinese 3 times and still lost 5lb.

I hate diet culture, I hate that it mostly preys on people's insecurities and mostly leaves you feeling like crap but I also for the sake of my health want to lose 3st and I really struggle.

I lost 2 stone a few years ago and have kept it off by ditching breakfast and eating a lot less of my ususal stuff but with no crap like crisps, cake etc.

feelingverylazytoday · 18/03/2019 07:14

Lost nearly 5 stone (33% of my body weight) without going to a single weight loss club or following a specific diet.
Eat less, move more really does work, as long as you eat reasonably 'healthy' food, in my experience. If you want the social experience, or feel you need the motivation of recording your weightloss publically, you could try an online community.

wonderwoo · 18/03/2019 07:33

Can I ask a question about team rh? I cannot exercise due to illness so is this something that could still work for me? I have had a look at the website and cannot get a clear picture of how it works.

I need to lose a stone or two really quickly to fit into my wedding dress. I am so confused about which way to go. I want to lose weight in a sensible long term way, but for now I need to just get it shifted. I was going to go to SW tomorrow but just dont know what to do after reading all this!

reenon · 18/03/2019 07:44

Team RH is about calorie counting (tracking food in mfp) . So yes, you can lose weight by lying down 24/7 but you wouldn't be able to consume as many calories as say someone who regularly does 15000 steps and lifts weights.

There are some videos in the private coaching group of some seated cardio sessions.

womanhuman · 18/03/2019 07:51

Team RH!

No more bollocks! I’ve lost about 30 pounds since January and I feel brilliant. And not a mullerlight has passed my lips.

Sexykitten2005 · 18/03/2019 08:03

Loving the team RH love on here. I was always massively active, I’ve weight lifted for about 4 years and run very long distances weekly but I was always stuffing my face with crap after. You can do minimal exercise but the point is to get your food absolutely right for what your body actually needs. Just join up and then work your way through the videos, get yourself into your calorie club Facebook page and start. There are some workouts for people who can’t exercise the convential way for whatever reason, you can always ask if you need to swap out one type of exercise for another. You will need to pay for the premium version of mfp so you can track your protein, fibre and carbs but when you think of how much you would spend joining slimming world and paying for their crap processed treats it works out cheaper in the long run.

It is a lifestyle plan, once you hit your weight you can either maintain or you can go into the cLean bulking group and start to add muscle to look more toned. But your diet should change forever and you will lol at food differently. My lunch yesterday was over 1000 calories but my god I enjoyed and I still lost weight this morning.

Everything about the plan feels alien, weighing yourself daily was my hardest thing but Richie is right, your weight will fluctuate daily so why not take a weekly average instead.

The app is ok. They got screwed over by their designers so it will only improve when they find someone new

Gobblebox · 18/03/2019 08:13

Look up ‘delay don’t deny’ and intermittent fasting. YouTube; audio book. Also listen to/read ‘the obseity code’ DR Fung. Also on YouTube if you want hear about his work before committing. It’s changed my life and many I know. It’s not about calories. It’s about hormones. Eat (I eat whatever and however much I like) within a smaller window each day (e.g: eat you meals between 12-6 pm only and the rest of the time you drink water or black coffee / tea and sleep as usual and you body ‘rests’ and burns fat for 18 hours a day)- the weight falls off. The science behind it blows the calorie/point/syns culture out of the window. And you’ll see why most end up putting their weight back on. Plus it’s free.........

sashh · 18/03/2019 08:21

I lost 5 stone using pills from the Dr, but put it all back on.

Currently I am not dieting but trying to be a bit healthier. I have a bento lunch box with 5 compartments and I'm using that. The biggest compartment is for veg or salad. I then use one of the small ones for 'protein', one for, 'carbs', one for 'fruit' and the last one as a 'extra' that may be a yoghurt, some nuts, or olives or a sauce but might also be a different veg or salad.

If I'm out of the house I leave it as a packed lunch, if I'm home I use it to measure what I'm cooking.

I have lost a bit of weight and i do feel a bit better.

For some reason having it prepped helps me make better choices, so I might not eat the fruit at lunch but I might have it as a snack later.

I know I need to cut down the fruit but at the moment I'm getting used to not having crisps in the house.

I'm using one like this

dressinggowndonna · 18/03/2019 08:26

I agree with everything sexykitten has to say, although you definitely don't need the premium mfp I only use the free one and it does everything I need it to.
The biggest change for me has been that I no longer binge eat 6 bags of crisps, 3 cupcakes and a packet of biscuits in one go. Due to the high calls you are on I never feel like I need to binge as I have 20% (400 cals) 'shite' a day.

Lolipop44 · 18/03/2019 08:28

I go to WW I've lost 2 stone in 4 months. I don't stay for any of the meetings i go in get weighed and go home. I also don't follow any of the groups on Facebook or whatever i just do my own thing and it's working for me.

Sexykitten2005 · 18/03/2019 08:48

Bugger dressingdowndonna I thought I did to get the macros Blush Never mind

wonderwoo · 18/03/2019 09:25

Thank you sexykitten and dressing. Is it good for a fast bit of loss too? I am thinking that i do need something like RH in the longterm. But in the short-term I just need to get into this blimmin' dress!

I have tried intermittent fasting but didnt work for me. I just went a bit crazy on the days I could eat. It wasnt helping my underlying issues with food I dont think.

MrsPinkCock · 18/03/2019 09:46

@wonderwoo

No. It isn’t a quick fix, it’s the exact opposite. You will lose 1-2lb a week depending on how big you are.

Any quick loss diet will not lose you fat quickly. It will lose water weight and muscle tone as well and you’ll put it all back on.

However with TRH even though I “only” lose a pound a week or less now (I’m slim), I’ve lost way more inches because I’ve gained muscle at the same time.

You’d have to be able to exercise for the best results though. Even walking is better than nothing, or seated cardio. I don’t know what your illness is but there are loads of members who still follow the plan with disabilities! The minimum step goal per day is 5k.

Justtheoneplease · 18/03/2019 09:58

Can someone please add a link for Team RH, thanks

womanhuman · 18/03/2019 10:01

www.facebook.com/teamrhfitness/

Siameasy · 18/03/2019 12:26

That team RH seems to be indicating that it’s fine to eat junk so long as it is low calorie. But to me that is a slippery slope.

I’m disappointed to see that as I thought we all knew by now - a calorie is not a calorie; all calories are not created equal.

They’re not offering anything new. It’s the same old “everything in moderation” which doesn’t work because many of us cannot do moderation when faced with foods which are designed to be addictive

wonderwoo · 18/03/2019 12:27

Thanks mrspink that is really helpful.

MrsPinkCock · 18/03/2019 12:37

@Siameasy

That isn’t what they teach you at all! The basic premise is no food is banned if it fits within your macros. But for someone like me, I’d never be able to eat an entire takeaway pizza as that would be my calories gone for the day and I’d be way over on fat and nowhere near my other macros.

They teach you how to better use your calories by eating the right amount of protein, fibre, carbs and fat.

I think one of their teaching points is that there isn’t good and bad food, but some foods aren’t as nutrient dense. And I think the reason some “bad” foods are encouraged are to stop you from feeling deprived and binging.

Siameasy · 18/03/2019 12:55

I don’t think I’d get on with it as I do think some foods are bad namely sugar and flour because they are addictive but I accept that as a binge eater I am unable to stop at eg one slice of pizza. If someone can do so then 👍🏻

I saw how they compare the so-called healthy meal and the unhealthy one. Which is right, the healthy one isn’t good but neither meal is good and people might think yay I can eat the shit one as it has fewer calories.

I’m trying to break the emotional relationship with food and I bet I’m not alone. ie had a shit day eat chocolate feel better. No one eats broccoli for comfort after a bad day so there is clearly something in sugar which offers pleasure-indeed it is proven to have a mild pain relieving effect. That turns it into a drug imo.

Anyone wanting to break bad habits should not be told it’s fine to eat Nutella on toast, something that will send your insulin levels through the roof and lead to more cravings for many

womanhuman · 18/03/2019 13:49

Team RH isn’t advocating for you to eat Nutella on toast, it’s pointing out to you that there’s as many calories in Advocado on toast as there is in Nutella on toast. It leaves you to make your own decisions about what you actually eat.

As a former SW person this is invaluable to me - I used to eat three bananas and four mullerlight (all ‘free’) because what I really wanted was some chocolate. Now I just eat the chocolate. Much fewer calories, no desire to binge.

outpinked · 18/03/2019 13:53

Not a fan of them at all. I believe my Mother has body dysmorphia because she has consistently been convinced she is obese my whole life despite never even being overweight. I have no idea what she sees when she looks in the mirror but it isn’t reality. She’s attended the diet clubs most of my life as well as attempting various extreme diets, all so stupid. Beats herself up when she’s maintained or gained a pound despite not even needing to lose weight! She weighs her portions on bloody WW scales, it’s ridiculous. Dread to think how much money they have extorted from her insecurities and millions of others over the years...

I just think it’s easier (and cheaper) to download MFP and walk more often.

outpinked · 18/03/2019 13:55

Oh and I wanted to add that I lost seven stone in a year just through tracking my calories on MFP and exercising a lot. A friend of mine has always used SW to lose weight and I’ll never forget her telling me off for eating a banana because it’s 100 calories and I could have a SW snack bar for less calories Hmm.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/03/2019 14:34

I’m doing Team RH as well. It allocates you calories and macros based on your current weight and activity level. I am 5’2”, weigh 10 stone 11 and get 1800 calories a day. I aim for 15,000 steps a day, which is easier than it sounds despite having a desk job.

I need to eat 113g of protein a day and 29g of fibre. It’s hard to eat much junk when you have to hit that!

The one criticism I have of the plan is the use of protein powder. I don’t use it. I can’t have as much junk food, but I can hit my protein and fibre goals by eating proper food, so I don’t care.

I’ve lost 4lbs in 4 weeks doing this, which is what I was losing doing 5:2 and feeling miserable on fast days. I love having proper meals!

The steps are easier to do than I thought - walk DS to nursery, 45 min walk at lunchtime, 30-45 min walk on the way home plus normal moving around in the office/at home and that hits it.

Siameasy · 18/03/2019 15:45

I get what they (RH) are saying for instance FruitNFibre is no better than Sugar Puffs and they are quite right.

I wouldnt touch either of those two choices but they would say you can eat either of them and it doesn’t matter which because calories are everything.

However, for me if a diet relies on long term will power (calorie restriction) or food substitutes (sweeteners) it is a short term solution only. And if I’m allowed small amounts of my “drug” (sugar) I will want more of it next time to get the same effect.

I know it works for some people so - great. But if calories in/out has failed you in the past I would maybe consider that there is more to it than this and particularly read up about the role of insulin in the body.

applesarerroundandshiny · 18/03/2019 16:07

Could those posters doing Team RH please post an example if the food they would eat in an average day please, and whether they also did exercise. Thanks Smile
