Without giving any background as I would like some unbiased opinions, please

How does this birthday card make you feel?

Open it, read it, chuck it in the bin.
Weird card, not funny but see what they're going for. Wouldn't be on display on my mantle piece.

YogaWannabe · 17/03/2019 18:10

Not my sense of humor but not something to get worked up about imo

slashlover · 17/03/2019 18:10

I've sent that card to my sister, it's a bit of a joke that her heating is on almost constantly. The last time I stayed there I was physically sick as it was so hot.

Jaxhog · 17/03/2019 18:11

As a joke, slightly funny, in a 'this isn't the 1950s' way. As a birthday card, in poor taste.

Squigglesworth · 17/03/2019 18:11

...Not funny. And a really strange choice for a birthday card. I wouldn't be thrilled to receive this, but unless the person giving it had a history of treating me poorly, I would just think they had a strange sense of humor and leave it at that.

Mememeplease · 17/03/2019 18:13

Not offended by it as it's obviously supposed to be a joke but it's not that funny. Why would you send that to someone anyway?

Hopefulmidwife · 17/03/2019 18:13

Oh my god it's a card. Do we have to be offended by everything nowadays? If you received it and don't like it, chuck it away. If you've seen it in a shop and don't like it, don't buy it.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/03/2019 18:13

it's dull really - not funny but not awful just bland

HarrysOwl · 17/03/2019 18:13

Shit card, shit joke.

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 17/03/2019 18:14

Very dull 1970s style "humour" based on men humiliating women. If someone gave me that I would assume they don't know me at all! I would not be impressed.

BlueJava · 17/03/2019 18:14

I wouldn't send it myself, if I received it then I would think it had come from someone older than me and quite old fashioned. I wouldn't be offended, life is too short.

GetStrongKeepFighting · 17/03/2019 18:15

Not funny. Not interesting. Quite surprised so many people didn't instantly get it.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/03/2019 18:16

I think it actually is a Les Dawson joke, or someone from that style/era Joke.

sackrifice · 17/03/2019 18:16

It's a Noel Gallagher joke.

Make of that what you will.

TapasForTwo · 17/03/2019 18:17

I have seen it before. It isn't a very good joke. On the face of it I wouldn't be offended to receive it, but it depends on the back story why someone else might.

If there is no back story I would think the recipient is too easily offended.

Stawp · 17/03/2019 18:17

It's a poor attempt at humour.

HotpotLawyer · 17/03/2019 18:19

Well it isn’t suitable as a birthday card.

It’s one of those really crap jokes where we women are all supposed to chuckle indulgently about what we put up with, isn’t it?

But actually better as a card that says ‘never will I put up with your shit like this again, your dinner’s in the bin, yours, your STBXW’

MerryMarigold · 17/03/2019 18:21

If someone other than dh was giving it, I'd assume they were making a comment about the way my dh treats me. If I was the dh, I'd assume my wife/ friend thinks pretty badly about me. If it was given to me by my dh, I wouldn't be impressed. He's making light of his very sexist/ horrible attitude towards me, recognising it whilst refusing to change it.

Ellenborough · 17/03/2019 18:21

It took me a while to get the joke. It's not hilarious. I don't have any feelings about it one way or another. It reminds me of Les Dawson.

Twisique · 17/03/2019 18:22

Makes me feel uncomfortable.

LinoleumBlownapart · 17/03/2019 18:22

I wouldn't like to get that card from anyone, it's a bit odd. I wouldn't be offended but I'd certainly think the giver was a bit strange.

picklemepopcorn · 17/03/2019 18:22

It would need to be sent between people who share the joke, so a couple who tussle over the thermostat.

Without that context of security, then no.

fotheringhay · 17/03/2019 18:22

Nasty as hell

Ohyesiam · 17/03/2019 18:24

A bit underwhelmed, it’s not very funny . A joke about a selfish ah man.

FamilyOfAliens · 17/03/2019 18:24

The “joke” has been around for decades.
