I start a new job on Monday and I’m meeting up with some old friends next week too, so having had a tough time with anxiety and depression recently, I thought I’d colour my hair for my fresh new start.

It was dyed a reddish brown before with about an inch of natural roots, I decided a nice rich dark brown like I used to have would be perfect Instead it’s come out pure black.Sad

I’m so upset and angry at myself. After feeling so down on myself for so long, I was just starting to feeling positive. Now with one look in the mirror I’m back to square one.

Now not only am I fat and useless, I’ve got stupid, shit hair too.

I can’t stop crying.

Tell me to get a grip please.

Fairy liquid works a treat at stripping the colour out. I think they have changed the vosene ingredients as it doesn't work like it used to years ago

Mrsbird311 · 16/03/2019 22:30

Head and shoulders will strip it !! I always use it as I don’t like my colour when it’s first done!!

Nearlythere1 · 17/03/2019 00:28

Since others are giving you advice on stripping the colour out as best you can, i'll give you advice on how to redye it to a new colour if you can get your hair in a state that will take it.

I've always liked a "dark brown with warm reddishness" to it. However, with home dyes, the only shades seem to be "dark brown" (which is too dark and flat) and "warm brown" (which is too red).

I use Garnier Olia in Rich Chocolate and Iced Chocolate. I just use half of each tube of colour mixed together, then have the other two halves left for next time. I can't afford to get my hair coloured professionally every time, so I do this for two cycles, then get professional the next. The outcome is the perfect dark-but-warm-reddish-undertones. Good luck!

Vit C tablets (about 30 of them) wizz in a food pro to make them powdery or crush in a bag (really fine ) mix with dandruff shampoo

I used it 4 hours , rinsed . Washed my hair again (not hopeful) but it took a really purple/red out and restored to brown.
Easier and less smelly than Colour B4 (which you need to rinse to blazes otherwise it will oxidise and darken)

I did a dark brown years ago, it went black - looked like Shakin' Bloody Stevens and had to have it cut Hmm

AbriaFern · 17/03/2019 00:42

“Vit c tablet mixed into dandruff shampoo to make a paste. Apply and leave for 20 to 30 mins, will strip away the colour. Then condition”

Vitamin C & dandruff shampoo worked for me as well. I wanted a dark caramel bayalage and came out of a salon with grey highlights, which aged me a good 15 years!

Singlenotsingle · 17/03/2019 00:43

I use 'Nice n Easy', in what is supposed to be light brown, but it always comes out dark brown and takes two or three washes to tone down.

Ilnome · 17/03/2019 00:51

Op I went through a phase in my teens where I had bleach blonde hair... only problem is I am very olive skinned and have thick dark brown hair so not only did I look jaundiced in every photo from 17-20 but after I tried to dye it back to brown and had to suffer through khaki green hair! It still is green at the ends because I am trying to grow my hair long! So you are deff not the only one, I either put it in a bun or a nice ponytail and pop some cute earrings in to draw attention away I promise it always feels worse than it is xxxxxxx

Ilnome · 17/03/2019 00:53

Also thel which savers sometimes stocks and nizarol (deff not spelt that right) are both dandruff shampoos that fade hair dye if ypu leave it in for 5-10 mins xxxx

Yesicancancan · 17/03/2019 01:00

Shit tonnes of conditioner and go to bed, no point having red eyes as well.
Your hair will fade with plenty of washes in gentle shampoo

Pinkbells · 17/03/2019 01:16

Oh no :-( Can you ring around to try to get a mobile hairdresser? Or find a salon open tomorrow (slim chance, I know). Otherwise, as soon as you can next week, one evening. I absolutely never touch my own hair with colour any more, I don't have the confidence not to muck it up but I have made some whoppers in the past, so I totally get your pain Flowers

ssd · 17/03/2019 01:19

I'm sorry. My parents are both dead too and it's just shit.

Congrats on your new job x

ssd · 17/03/2019 01:20

And happy birthday, I hope its as good as it can be 🎂🎁🍰🎉🌹

amysaurus87 · 17/03/2019 01:21

I've had this before, hot shower (as hot as you can stand) as this opens up pores and helps the dye to leech out, use head an shoulders it's pretty strong at shifting dye if your hair has been recently dyed.

RosemaryHoight · 17/03/2019 01:24

Good on you for your new job.

I coloured my hair at home 'natural light brown' it was so black it was shiny green and navy. I did a colourbgone thing and it went back to brown.

Have a good time with your friends and a nice time at work.

Comps83 · 17/03/2019 01:29

Aw I’ve done this twice . Used a brown dye which came out jet black. It will fade don’t worry .

ReggieWoo · 17/03/2019 13:59

Happy birthday OP Thanks

category12 · 17/03/2019 14:10

Happy birthday for tomorrow Cake and I hope your first day goes really well.

Sorry about your parents. Flowers

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 17/03/2019 14:55

Happy Birthday OP! CakeWine

I’m so sorry to hear about your parents. But I bet they’d be hugely proud at your new job and the way you ARE coping.

And as PP said, don’t stress too much about your hair, I did the same with an added widows peak where the dye stained my forehead! It does come out eventually.

Best of luck for tomorrow and HBD again x

QuestionableMouse · 17/03/2019 15:02

Happy birthday. I'm so sorry you're having a tough time. Please don't be too hard on yourself, you can't be doing that badly if you've just landed a new job!

CookPassBabtridge · 17/03/2019 15:09

Mine does this, takes about 4 washes to look good. I just wear more makeup to balance it.

fedupntired · 17/03/2019 15:35

Happy birthday 💐

Deadringer · 17/03/2019 15:42

Op we have all been there with the hair mistakes. You have a new job to look forward to, you have friends that you are planning to see, in the grand scheme of things your hair really is a minor detail. You will look back on this and laugh, probably sooner that you think. Be kind to yourself.

Meangirls36 · 17/03/2019 15:55

Black hair looks nice!! But I'm a closet goth. Do you have a detangling brush ? That will help with the tangles. Don't worry im sure you look fine. Sometimes I feel soo ugly o could cry and I avoid mirrors then other times when I feel less depressed and sad I feel like I look good. I try not to worry about appearance too much these days. I find it literally has never held me back with anything that matters. I have shaved the side of my head before it didn't work so had to shave my whole head had to wear a hat. I looked completely mental!! I got through that you can get through this!

BoswellsBollocks · 17/03/2019 22:22

Thank you all so much for your kind birthday wishes and advice on hair dye disasters! Wine

My hair still looks shit but I haven’t let it bother me too much today. I’ve washed it 4 times in head & shoulders and it still is as black as night but hey ho, it’s very shiny

I do look rather like Kat Slater at the mo so I’m avoiding leopard print for the time being.

I’m feeling ok right now, despite the hair and the fact no one got me any birthday cake (boo hoo)

Thanks again you lovely lot 😙
