To wonder why we can’t possibly have another referendum yet Theresa May can have as many votes as needed in order to return the ‘right’ answer

Just that really.

I’m not even massively in favour of another referendum as it’s clear views are so entrenched the result probably won’t change.

But for Theresa May to insist the result of the referendum must be honoured whilst simultaneously re-running votes on the Withdrawal Agreement until she gets the answer she wants is mind boggling.

It’s not even a good basis for a deal - all the rules and very little freedom.

Leavers - is this what you wanted?

Are you happy with this fiasco?

Right now the only choice should be no deal, and let everyone see the devastating it’s going to cause, or revoke.

A recent survey found that 25% of people think a no deal Brexit means we stay in the EU. And remember folks, people now know more about the situation than they did 2 yrs ago when the referendum was held.

There's no point in holding another one, because the truth is, the vast majority of the British public are far too stupid to grasp the complexities of the subject. They were too stupid 2 years ago.

Even on this thread, people making their decision so we can trade with countries outside the EU (which we always could) and so we can get Vacuum cleaners with more power ( although no one will make them because other markets won't allow them and who the fuck wants a vacuum that uses more electricity when less powerful ones can offer the same performance due to technology advances)

That's why we have politicians, to debate complex issues and make decisions.

DangermousesSidekick · 16/03/2019 17:22

I was thinking exactly this yesterday. Don't we have wonderful politicians of complete integrity who really care about the state of our nation and the people that make it up. I'm sick of the party politicking over something that could have huge impact at a time of soaring living costs and fewer jobs with falling wages everywhere.

I would say ill-informed rather than simply stupid, and who benefits from ensuring we remain both ill-informed and misinformed? Any form of democracy requires decent education and information. Lose them, and you lose democracy - as we are seeing. Old Corruption is back with a vengeance, and posts like yours encourage it imo.

YANBU

Re-running votes and using bribes to get the desired outcome.

How is this democratic or even legal?

Lifecraft · 16/03/2019 18:52

I would say ill-informed rather than simply stupid,

As a famous comedian said recently, we still have to write on bottles of bleach "DO NOT DRINK". If we're going to have another referendum, take the warnings off the bleach, for 2 years, and then hold it.

Re-running votes and using bribes to get the desired outcome.

We recently had a vote in my family about where to go for a picnic. We voted to go to the beach. We were well on our way when a huge storm blew up, and the radio said there was danger of landslides, and tidal waves. and 500K stinging jelly fish had been washed up on shore and were rotting.

A few of the family suggested we hold another vote, in light of more information now being available. But oh no, I wasn't having that. We voted, and we were going to stick to it.

No-one was too stupid two years ago. People voted on what was in front of them. I have no problem with another referendum as long as its done properly and sensibly. Although strangely enough It the same issue I had with the first one.

Obviously it is a travesty that we wont get to leave the EU this month because its what we voted for.

But if MPs back TM's deal, then we can leave the EU & replace her as PM immediately. Then we get a Brexiteer in charge to give us a proper Brexit and all this can be saved.

Although I agree its what was voted for. how it is, was, should be implemented was not.

Could be game, set & match to ERG!!

Personally i would rather we/they picked someone they felt was the best person for the job of prime minister

Was “Leave the EU I’m March 2019* on your ballot paper?

DangermousesSidekick · 16/03/2019 23:04

What exactly is a 'proper Brexit'? Who's 'we'? All what can be saved?

AquaFaba · 16/03/2019 23:13

Very interesting to read all these divergent views.

Certainly, what I’m seeing among friends in RL and FB friends is almost a bludgeoned submission .....as if we are all watching a car crash over which we have no control. (I voted remain)

And here is exactly the problem; it simply hasn’t sunk in with Leavers that there isn’t a deal which is better than this.

It doesn’t matter who is negiotiating it, if immigration is a red line then this is as good as it gets.

What will it take to get you to understand this?
