to ask what to do now? The bank have given my details to abusive ex...

I made a complaint to the bank a few months ago that they had allowed an abusive ex-partner to open an account in my name and run up debt. Three weeks later, they were still allowing him to use the account (according to my credit file) and I complained again.

Today I messaged them to ask what was taking so long. They've just called and confirmed that they sent a letter, including all the allegations, to his address. An address that I have never lived at. The letter contains my new mobile number, at least, and possibly my new address.

He was very violent. He hit me when we broke up. I had to get the police involved and be escorted to work and home again for a while, had to work odd hours, he waited for me outside anywhere he thought I might be. I had to go into a refuge for a while and get a new number. It took months for me to feel calm that he didn't know where I was. I was treated for intense PTSD, and situational anxiety.

They knew this. I was explicit about this, and they knew it, and have detailed in the letter that they know they can only use certain contact details for me...

The bank complaints handler has apologised and said they will call back today as soon as possible. He shut down and wouldn't tell me any more.

What do I do now? I don't want to keep running, to live in fear again. It cost a lot to deal with it last time, there's a lot of inconvenience... I can't believe they've messed it up. I'm so scared he'll turn up here.

They should be charged for the police costs involved as well as very generous compensation for yourself!

Sindragosan · 09/04/2019 12:48

Looking at the financial ombudsman, the business has to reply within 8 weeks Hmm , so I can imagine they'll drag it out as long as possible.

While I doubt they'll admit it, I would expect their legal team are holding this up, knowing that it will be going to legal action.

GirlcalledJack · 09/04/2019 13:05

See I actually think the way Barclays is behaving effects us all.

We pay taxes on an already overstretched police force that have now had to dedicate man hours away from their already overstretched sections to deal with an awful situation that Barclays has put the OP in.

In the scheme of things it might be a drop in the ocean but I begrudge any tax payers money having to be used to deal with a banks utter incompetence. What makes it worse is there doesn’t seem to be any remorse from the bank!

OP should never have been put in this situation, the bank should have been quick to deal with the ramifications and kept the OP safe by whatever means were necessary even if that meant them subsidising a house move etc.
Then for the bank to expect everyone else to pick up the pieces of their monumental fuck up is outrageous.

I am utterly disgusted.

OP I suggest getting a Newspaper on side, people need to see this is how Barclays treat their customers.

DarlingNikita · 09/04/2019 14:11

OK, at this stage I'd go into a branch, march into the manager's office and refuse to leave until some fucker comes up with the letter.

This is ridiculous.

TightPants · 09/04/2019 17:37

I’ve followed this thread OP with growing rage on your behalf.
Have you tried Twitter?
I’ve just had a look at their Twitter account but can’t see anything (in case any other MNetters tweeted them)

Please, Rottweiler lawyer needed to take them to the fucking cleaners, they have behaved appallingly.

gallicgirl · 09/04/2019 18:24

I'm just astonished it's taken so long and you really don't have an outcome yet.
My employer deals with complaints within 2 weeks and while I appreciate it's a smaller organisation, we hold much more sensitive information and this would have senior management all over it.

I hope you're home and safe OP.

ColdCrumpetsandButter · 09/04/2019 21:34

Are they hoping you'll tire of it and disappear taking your complaint with you?

This is shabby.

eddielizzard · 09/04/2019 22:37

I agree, I think they're stringing you along until you give up. Don't give up!

LimpidPools · 09/04/2019 23:57

Dear God. Their behaviour is and has been consistently appalling. The lack of either basic comprehension or compassion is extraordinary.

Please don't give up OP. Wishing you all the best.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 10/04/2019 03:23

I'm astounded that you're still waiting for the letter to put in an appearance.

I'm so sorry that you're still ploughing through this pile of shit OP. It'll be worth it in the end, I'm certain.

This is certainly not doing much for their PR either. I've banked with them for decades, and it's their response to this situation (as opposed to the original error, which was obviously still awful) that has lead to me switching my accounts.

Here's hoping the letter arrives this week.

WeeDangerousSpike · 10/04/2019 11:28

If they have to respond within 8 weeks, when do they count from? OP said she made the initial complaint about the fraudulent account months ago, could the 8 weeks be up already?

Halo84 · 16/04/2019 07:35

I hope you’re okay OP.

julesmumoftwins · 16/04/2019 08:29

Hi OP, hope you’re ok? Have you heard anymore?

Weenurse · 16/04/2019 08:53

I hope this gets resolved with you being safe

ooopsupsideyourhead · 16/04/2019 09:26

I have just found this thread, after some people posted on it today.

I am aghast at this whole situation, I do hope OP that you are safe, and that things are moving forwards in a positive way.

Horsemad · 24/04/2019 11:57

Has this been resolved yet OP?

GoGoJo · 21/05/2019 19:14

Any update op?

PonderingPanda · 02/06/2019 08:48

@AnchorDownDeepBreath - how are you?

Dontthinkofthegame · 03/06/2019 20:59

Thinking of you OP.

I hope things have been somewhat resolved for you.

Thedilemma111 · 03/06/2019 21:28

Ask for a copy of the letter so you know exactly what information he has received

Sleepyhead11 · 03/06/2019 22:00

I just saw this thread and am shaking with rage on your behalf. I hope you're OK, and I couldn't hate Barclays more right now. How bloody dare they.

MRex · 03/06/2019 22:02

Hope you're ok OP.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/08/2019 09:20

@AnchorDownDeepBreath saw a similar story on the news this morning and thought of you. Hope things have been sorted out for you now.
