To be fed up that so much chocolate now has palm oil in it?

Palm oil is bad for the environment. And it tastes horrible. It used to be that no chocolate had palm oil as an ingredient, now nearly all chocolate has palm oil in it. It has been good for my waistline as the only chocolate for sale next to my office that is palm oil free, is an expensive bar of chocolate at £3 each. But I do miss having a bar of chocolate on a tough day.

If you chose to eat that kind of confectionery then you're part of the problem, tbh.

@Hadalifeonce I had some boxed chocolates from Cadbury that made me really sick. (Heroes?)

They got me me to send them back. They tested them apparently but said nothing was wrong with them.

They gave me a refund in the form of vouchers for mondelez so in essence they kept my money anyway!!!

SoftBlocks · 15/03/2019 10:05

YANBU.

Morgan12 · 15/03/2019 10:14

I can't taste the difference. I still like galaxy and Cadbury.

Hadalifeonce · 15/03/2019 10:26

TowandaForever I am sure years ago manufacturers used to care about their customers.

werideatdawn · 15/03/2019 10:27

Had no idea it was in formula! Gross.
It's horrible, I was given a box of Milk Tray recently and it remains untouched.

cantbearsed1 · 15/03/2019 10:36

Morgan I am genuinely shocked that you can not tell the difference.

I really like Tesco's own brand milk chocolate. It sort of reminds me a little bit of how dairy milk used to be.

Bookworm01 · 15/03/2019 10:45

The bread we have has palm oil in it. I wrote to them and asked why, and they fudged the question saying it comes from responsible sources. I said, yes, ok, I still don't agree with the responsible sources bit, but why do you put it in there in the first place? They failed to reply.

Some of Sainsbury's own chocolate is palm oil free, as well as some Waitrose, but you have to check the ingredients. Choccy with palm oil added is foul.

Gorse · 15/03/2019 12:36

Thanks for finding that, Apples. Yes a bit pricey for me at around 30 pence per pack more than what I was paying. However, a destroyed environment is definitely worth avoiding so I may well order some.
Now all we have to do is persuade the EU to stop importing palm oil for biodiesel.

Gorse · 15/03/2019 12:44

Thanks @Tilda but my nearest giant Tesco is awash with palm oil full products, not a wholesome oatcake in sight.
Agree about the Lidl chocolate, it's pretty good.

AnxietyFarts · 15/03/2019 12:49

If you're concerned about the environment then I'd avoid dairy chocolate. Animal agriculture is the biggest contributor to global warming, even with 'British milk'.

NannyRed · 15/03/2019 12:51

Yanbu, palm oil is like eating the devils farts.

It tastes nasty and does nobody any good.

However companies want to make profit, palm oil is cheap (and nasty)

I actively boycott everything with palm oil in, which include Linda McCartney’s vegetarian sausages and Linda M says it’s “ethical” but company’s that buy ‘ethical’ palm oil leave China and Russia no option but to buy the unethical oil.. and it tastes vile and slimey

cantbearsed1 · 15/03/2019 12:53

I am far from perfect. I am not going to live an extreme environmentalist lifestyle in an off-grid house, using a compost toilet and having only solar power as energy.
But I think we can all do bits to improve our impact on the environment.
And you are wrong about agriculture. Transportation followed by electricity production are the biggest contributors. I trust organisations like National Geographic over tabloid headlines.
