Mine is up over 4%. I haven’t had a pay rise for 5 years now and these bills just keep going up and up. Gas and electric fixed deal up too and even with switching it is 20% higher than last year! I can see a time in the future when I won’t be able to afford to run a house and will have to houseshare or something. Not good aged 42!

Ours is now £330 per month for a three bed flat in Greater London.

Lolly86 · 12/03/2019 07:03

Ours has gone from £127 to £133 a month

Timtims · 12/03/2019 07:06

Timtims · 12/03/2019 07:08

And we're also having big cuts to services ....

Nevergotobedfangry · 12/03/2019 07:15

Not sure what the precentage is, but its gone up by £15 a month. Can't grumble though

MotherOfDragons90 · 12/03/2019 07:35

Mines gone up by about 5% to £134. Last year it went up by £14 Shock.

They mention social care on the letter so fair enough I suppose but still stings when money is tight anyway.

Turquoisetamborine · 12/03/2019 07:41

It’s gone up £7 pm to £127pm and we are in the lowest band. I hate paying it.

Clutterbugsmum · 12/03/2019 08:26

Ours has gone up about £10 per month

I don't pay council tax but my area has gone up 6%

havingtochangeusernameagain · 12/03/2019 08:44

I don't know yet. Mine is already just over £200 a month (band E house). We get precious little for it. The one tangible thing most people see for their council tax if they don't need care is rubbish disposal. Yet the council is always trying to cut services whether it's cutting the hours of the household tips or making people apply for passes (and why can't you use any household tip if you live on a county border area, traffic will move in both directions).

Council tax is a radically unfair tax, particularly given the rapid and fundamental changes in the property market since it was introduced

I agree. It should be based on number of adults and income, not property value.

Youshallnotpass · 12/03/2019 10:08

Band C - £145 to £151 a month.

As above, cuts to services as well of course.

Pay more for less!

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/03/2019 10:33

We don't appear to have had a bill yet, but googling tells me it is going up by 3.99%

I don't know if our council is doing better than some as we don't have to pay for garden waste removal and there are things that the council still don't charge for that they could well do, like parking at the big city parks, and they still do things like plant flowers on roundabouts that you'd think they'd scale back on in times of need, so they must have made cuts elsewhere perhaps.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/03/2019 10:34

Library opening hours have reduced, but demand has probably also reduced a lot too, due to e-readers etc.

They published some statistics and some libraries were getting hardly any visitors during some opening sessions.

onceandneveragain · 12/03/2019 10:53

4.9 here. Has been 4.something for last few years and council have already said it will be the same for the next few too to cover the deficit. Wouldn't mind so much but gas and electric have gone up too. Public sector so haven't had/won't have a pay rise either and don't even get increments! I've cancelled TV license to cover this year as I only watch catch up occasionally but not sure what I'll do next year.

As people say, logically I know it's going to worthwhile services but it is hard to emotionally separate from the instinctual 'but it's not fair, I personally don't use schools, social services, police, etc.'

On plus side bin collection here is pretty decent.... (straw clutching...!)

SamBaileys · 12/03/2019 10:54

5%..takes it to £135 per month, band A in rural County Durham.

LikeACowsOpinion · 12/03/2019 11:27

4% here. £215 a month now...

Pinkblanket · 12/03/2019 11:29

3% for the Borough element, 4% county council element.

LIZS · 12/03/2019 11:35

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 12/03/2019 11:52

Band E £2213.76 per year
Nice little leaflet sent through with the bill and it is a joy to know that I am paying for my neibour to have his old Christmas tree collected😩

To ask how much your council tax has gone up by this year?
Sparklesocks · 12/03/2019 12:02

7.5%! Despite massive cuts to services..
We pay monthly rather than 10 months out of 12 so we have a smaller payment per month, but it does feel very steep.

LIZS · 12/03/2019 12:18

Have all areas got a new separate entry for Adult Social Care? As this was previously under cc their increase is understated like for like Hmm We live in a relatively low crime area yet Police is up over 10%

Keeprisinghigher · 12/03/2019 12:55

Police is up 13.6% on mine. Are we going
To see evidence of this extra spend?

40% goes to older people
Support. Does this mean paying nursing care mainly?
