A wooden toy kitchen with loads of utensils for DD when she was 4. £5!

sueelleker · 11/03/2019 09:59

A Moss Bros. dinner suit for my husband £10.00.Took it on our first cruise.

MatildaTheCat · 11/03/2019 10:03

So so many lovely things but I am now restricting myself to silk scarves as I have far too many clothes.

Oxfam and some others also do beautiful greetings cards.

I adore charity shops.

MatildaTheCat · 11/03/2019 10:04

Oh, and brooches, little bits your granny would have had. Gorgeous.

We also have some really good high end donations but it all about luck and rummaging.

Thestral · 11/03/2019 10:07

I am famous amongst friends for the best ever charity shop purchase: a BabyJogger City Mini, covered in strawberry yoghurt (at least that's what I think it was!) which washed up beautifully, for just £20.

It's still going strong 3 kids later!

Nameisthegame · 11/03/2019 10:10

Timberland boots for 20p! Everything in the shop was 20p it was a real godsend! As my dd was small when she was born so had to buy all new clothes etc for her and myself in the post pregnancy flab stage. I do think the fact money goes to charity is great (although a lot goes to admin and big wigs) but I do think prices are getting to high.

Emma Bridgewater Butter dish, 1930’s serving tureens, vintage 1940s black velvet dress, which a friend borrowed and washed - it then disintegrated Sad

BadlyAgedMemes · 11/03/2019 10:16

A wooden dinner table and chairs, a wooden bureau desk, and a large wooden bookcase. Combined price £40 ish, but this was a while ago.

We used to live near a charity shop for a local charity that did furniture. We moved there when moving into our first unfurnished rental, so took full advantage. Several bits have not followed us (not great quality, broken, replaced by something else), but the above ones I still love.

scaryteacher · 11/03/2019 10:19

I got a pretty fluted platter that matches my China for a fiver.

Roomba · 11/03/2019 10:23

I bought the most stunning evening gown for a black tie dinner, it was new and still had all it's tags on. Absolutely gorgeous and cost me £6.99 in the Scope shop (prob the most expensive thing they had in!). I looked up the designer when I got home and it had been £345 in House of Fraser!

keepingbees · 11/03/2019 10:24

I love charity shops and have had so many bargains. My favourite ones are probably:

White Company wool cardigan brand new with £89 tag still on - £6
Brand new Ralph Lauren Polo canvas trainers £6
Selection of Marks and Spencer's work trousers for DH for 50p each.
Brand new with tags Hype t shirt for DS £3.50. Some used Hype tops for £1 and a Hype hoodie for £1.75.
Lots of Next skinny jeans for fussy DS all under £3 a pair.
Fat face rain jacket I wear all the time - £6.
Many Joules tops for me and Dd most were 50p
Cath Kidston new mug I use every day £3.50
Cath Kidston brand new boxed set of 2 teacups and saucers - £5
Loads of Barbie dolls and accessories for pennies.
A rose quartz necklace that was amongst the costume jewellery for £2. When I got it home I realised the metal was stamped 925 and is heavy silver.

Roomba · 11/03/2019 10:25

There's a Hospice hop which sells furniture and refurbished white goods nearby. I bought several pieces of huge, dark, heavy Victorian furniture years ago - back when it was very out of fashion. Everyone loves it now and asks where I got hold of it as they are after similar.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 11/03/2019 10:26

I do try to but second hand when I can because it’s better for the environment but my local charity shops are not great. The prices are quite high and the quality of donations very low most of the time. I can’t really justify buying a worn out top for £5

Dragonlight · 11/03/2019 10:27

Beautiful baby sling for $1. I used it for ages then sold for $100!

hyperspacebug · 11/03/2019 10:34

I used to live in posh area of London and had a few pretty hauls.

My fave is probably 60%cashmere/wool coat that I still wear years on. £600 new (according to brand website)

Big dolls house with all bits in for £12.

Now I live where charity donations aren't as high quality given FB local groups for second hand stuff is pretty good.

bellinisurge · 11/03/2019 10:37

My wedding dress. Donated as unsold item by a wedding dress shop to the charity shop. Perfect fit. Exactly the style I wanted. £150.

Siameasy · 11/03/2019 10:40

Omg this is my hobby
How much time have you got😂
Bargain wise - kids clothes from Joules, Ralph L and Zara which I have sold on for more than they cost
Fun wise - I love buying kids books and games and once we have finished with the books we either pass them on or give them back. My daughter (4) loves a CS she goes in armed with her £1 coin and loves choosing a new toy

mirime · 11/03/2019 10:46

I've had a lot of FatFace and White Stuff clothes from my local charity shops, and I buy a fair amount of jewellery as well as jewellery making is a hobby of mine and sometimes I see something and just know I could do something better with the bits...

Pumperthepumper · 11/03/2019 11:14

A Villeroy and Boch Acapulco plate for about 50p, excellent stuff.

JaceLancs · 11/03/2019 11:29

Far too many to list
Recent finds include red jimmy choo snakeskin sandals
Navy jaeger wool coat
Tula cream leather handbag
Various cashmere items
I was also bizarrely thrilled with a set of plastic containers for my baking supplies last week!

PutyourtoponTrevor · 11/03/2019 11:32

I frequent the charity shops around the Knutsford areas, some great finds over the years

DKNY bag for £30
Barbour quilted coat for £20
Jimmy Choo's for £20

All look brand new

detoke · 11/03/2019 11:34

my uncle got a leather jacket for £20 and found £600 in the pocket about 4 years ago

NoNewsisGood · 11/03/2019 11:36

Lego and kids' books. So many books for 50p or 75p on DC's shelves. Also good to pick them up and donate to the school

kayakingmum · 11/03/2019 11:36

I don't tend to buy much from charity shops but spotted a little green grog chair outside a charity shop for £2. My daughter loves it and uses it a lot. A great buy :)
