To ask if anyone’s tried these and they’ve worked?!

The Seven Seas trying for a baby pills.

They were recommended by a friend who got pregnant before they even finished their first pack. They have very good reviews, a lot of them saying they got pregnant during the first month but wanted to ask people who definitely aren’t paid to write a good review Grin

OP posts:

These tablets are called “Trying for a baby” and claim, on the front of the pack “supports normal fertility and reproduction” which could well give someone reason to believe that they’d help with conception.

The claims sound like bollocks to me, and I agree with a PP that they should be reported to advertising standards.

Good luck with the conception attempts, OP 😉

Klopptimist · 06/03/2019 23:52

Just done it now, quick and easy online form.

They're just cashing in on people's desperation aren't they? Much like the slimming industry. Some women could take all the vitamins in the world and never conceive naturally. Others can smoke, drink and drug themselves into oblivion yet still become upduffed at the drop of a hat. It's a game of chance and making money on it is exploitative and cruel.

aLilNonnyMouse · 07/03/2019 00:01

You should be taking folic acid for 6 months to a year before trying to get pregnant as low levels can cause nural tube defects and things like spina bifida. It's also linked to autism.

Being healthy is never a bad thing and vitamin supplements are a decent idea if you don't have the best diet. They wont ever magically get you pregnant though.

BertrandRussell · 07/03/2019 00:01

Me too. I hope others do as well.

SurgeHopper · 07/03/2019 00:53

What's with all the faux misunderstanding?

Of course the op doesn't think these pills make you pregnant, she wants to know if you think they might help!

Jesus

MissLadyM · 07/03/2019 01:19

This is sick! Most vitamins are utterly pointless anyway but preying on people desperate to get pregnant is horrifying

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/03/2019 01:30

I agree that the packaging does seem to suggest that by taking these pills you are increasing your chances of conceiving. Also have reported.

My I suggest that we all share this on any social media we may have to increase the level of interest.

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/03/2019 01:47

Its total rubbish OP, they're horribly advertised. You could go in poundland and buy the vitamins at similar levels in their individual forms. No idea why some people are being so snippy with you though, it's really not difficult to explain things politely and kindly without taking any/all opportunity to make someone feel or look stupid.
People claim all sorts helped them get pregnant at the end of the day, ultimately it's just biology and luck. Perhaps it makes your friend feel better to think what she thinks as it gives her some control over trying to conceive and struggling. Take them if it makes you feel good, because theres certainly no harm, or harm in a placebo- but yes, it is a con basically, a quite cynical one at that Flowers

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/03/2019 01:52

I wonder if there is something in the placebo effect though.

Stress is known to affect infertility, and so presumably month after month of BFNs could creat such levels of stress. Taking a "magic pill" that you are sure will help you conceive could reduce that stress therefore making you more likely to conceive.

That may be why there is anecdotal evidence to suggest that when a couple stop focussing so hard on conception, they get pregnant very quickly afterwards. Yes it could (and in many cases probably is) a coincidence but I have often thought that there may be something in it.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/03/2019 01:53

Sorry.....stress is know to affect fertility

Something like this seems to aid better. I've seen several brands but this is the cheapest.
Again, just because someone fell pregnant while using it doesn't mean it was because of the gel. But worth a try for a tenner?
No clue if I am also the snake oil salesman by mentioning it, but heard good stuff and figured it was worth mentioning.
Please don't shoot me down too hard if I've sounded like a twat and its actually shite.

Princessmushroom · 07/03/2019 05:49

Sometimes I despair over the replies here. ‘OP what do you want us to tell you?’

Well the original post CLEARLY says what she wants you to tell her. Do they actually work or are the reviews written by people who got them free or were paid for a review.

I don’t know if you realise how stupid you look trying to make the OP look stupid.

Loopytiles · 07/03/2019 05:56

It’s “woo”.

BertrandRussell · 07/03/2019 07:20

“I don’t know if you realise how stupid you look trying to make the OP look stupid.”
I don’t want the OP to look stupid. I want other people not to be taken in by this nasty unscrupulous misleading piece of rubbish.

Imperfectsusan · 07/03/2019 07:35

But hoods folic acid a piece of rubbish??

We know there is excellent evidence that it helps with foetus development. It isn't far fetched to suspect that the body chooses its moment for conception when vitamins needed for a developing foetus are in supply. I'm sure I had a successful conception after taking antibiotics one time. I can't prove it, though.

BertrandRussell · 07/03/2019 07:44

There’s difference between you personally believing that something caused you to become pregnant and the packeting on a packet of pills telling you that. I got pregnant 3 times on the only 3 tunes I have been to Ireland. Doesn’t mean that the Irish Tourist Board can claim any involvement in the conception of my children!

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 07/03/2019 10:14

If you're TTC you should be taking folic acid so it's not a waste of money per se. You can get the same vitamins much cheaper though.

HarrysOwl · 07/03/2019 10:30

Getting pregnant is about a good sperm, a good egg and good tubes (or so my fertility clinic told me).

The fact your friend was taking these is most likely very, very incidental.

HarrysOwl · 07/03/2019 10:32

This is sick! Most vitamins are utterly pointless anyway but preying on people desperate to get pregnant is horrifying

That's just how marketing works, I'm afraid.

Thecabbageassasin · 07/03/2019 10:38

The op is clearly asking for anecdotal opinions, not sure why the snarky comments.
Clearly if there was any scientific proof the vitamins helped to conceive then seven seas would be quoting the statistics on the packaging.
Op. No harm in trying them and good luck.

TriciaH87 · 07/03/2019 10:41

Her taking these and falling pregnant in first month was by chance. Folic acid is to reduce risk of spinabifida it does not increase vertility. If you are trying however you should be taking folic acid in some form until about 12 weeks pregnant. I bet their are cheaper options about and their marketing scheme is disgusting to imply that they help with conception.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 07/03/2019 10:57

Hi OP

People don't know what made them get pregnant. You would need a large scale study to prove anything not just a handful of people even if they swore it made a difference to them. There is plenty on the Internet with advice to maximise the chances of getting pregnant that is based on scientific evidence e.g. being an appropriate weight for your height, healthy diet, not smoking, not drinking to excess, same for your partner, not being too old, having enough sex at the right time in your cycle etc. I didn't take anything and got pregnant the first week of trying. If I had taken these I may have thought it helped but it wouldn't have

BertrandRussell · 07/03/2019 10:58

“Clearly if there was any scientific proof the vitamins helped to conceive then seven seas would be quoting the statistics on the packaging. ”

Which is why they word it in a way that is designed to mislead and trick the vulnerable.. It’s just horrible.
