The delivery driver brings the trolley thing onto my front patio, I then pick up each box/tray and carry it into the kitchen and quickly pull out the bags.

I don't like strangers in my personal space. Does your delivery guy come into your house? When I was at university, I used to have him come in but I just prefer this way now.

Mine bring the crates through to the kitchen and I unload (bagless delivery) onto the table and some of them help me unload if they've finished bringing crates in, but I'm usually done by the last crate.

We do have one (female) delivery driver who brings her own bags for life and unloads the crates into them and then I/we bring them in. We have a flight of about 7 steps to our front door so I assume she can't carry the crates up those.

BeerandBiscuits · 06/03/2019 10:42

I am surprised by the amount of posters who say the delivery man helps them unload their shopping. I did not know that was a thing, I thought they were simply employed to bring the deliveries to the door? Surely that eats in to the delivery time slots and slows them down on the job.
It would take longer if delivery person just stood and waited while crates taken into kitchen and unloaded by customer.

lazymumsmh · 06/03/2019 10:43

I don't like people in my space either.

I deliberately get shopping with bags so I can just grab all the bags out of the crates on the door stop, chuck em through to the kitchen, then unpack at my leisure.

anniehm · 06/03/2019 10:55

I carry the trays in and dump onto the island, it's one of the things I hate about delivery, I wish we could rent the trays and hand back the following week.

akmum18 · 06/03/2019 10:57

I wouldn’t let them in either, they pile up the plastic boxes with my bags in and I take them out and pile them up in the hallway then carry to kitchen when they leave. Much quicker and easier.

MRex · 06/03/2019 10:57

The driver brings everything into the kitchen and leaves it on the table / counter as requested. Our main delivery is Ocado so it's in bags and we return last shop's bags.

Tesco every now and then is normally a small order of a couple of bags so we just take it from the driver at the door (and give the bags to Ocado).

Beer delivery every now and then comes in cardboard boxes so that's left at the door.

We also get some food in person and bring it home in a rucksack or the base of the baby pushchair.

Reastie · 06/03/2019 10:59

I usually take the shopping from the front door and carry it to the kitchen myself. I’m currently pg and this is physically harder than usual so I ask the delivery person to carry it to the kitchen for me, which has never been a problem but I hate it because it means they walk in the house with their big clumpy shoes and we are a no shoe household. The shoes make obvious marks if it’s wet outside.

I had a friend who lived on a second flat and she said the grocery delivery people refused to deliver to her front door and would only deliver to the main entrance of the flat leaving her to carry it up all the stairs. I wonder if that’s always the case with people in flats.

Sweetpea55 · 06/03/2019 11:34

We have delivery without bags.
I have 2 shopping trolleys which I bring to the door and load the shopping into them. Obviously there is a bit too much shopping sometimes to do this so I put all the overflow on the dresser near the front door, empty one trolley in the kitchen and take it back to refill.
We have a long hallway so its the easiest way to do this

BarbedBloom · 06/03/2019 11:40

Mine brings it into the kitchen and unpacks there.

seven201 · 06/03/2019 11:49

It takes you 6 or 7 minutes! Sorry, but I think you are taking the piss. They have tight schedules. You should either let them in to pop in your kitchen or unload the bags into your hallway by the door. I go for the by the door option. Takes 30 seconds-1 minute, then I move things through later.

notanothernam · 06/03/2019 11:51

I just ask them to leave the boxes at the doorstep, I don't get carrier bags so it's a bit of a pain getting everything out but prefer it that way.

Flobochin · 06/03/2019 11:53

I get the driver to take the crates into the kitchen and I unload them (no bags) easy peasy.

YahBasic · 06/03/2019 11:55

@Reastie I’m in a third floor flat and have never had issues with Sainsbury’s - we do have a lift though so not sure if that has an impact.

I’d say from turning up outside to the driver leaving, it’s between 6-7 minutes, so that time just unpacking does seem quite long.

I’m not sure how long they are “allowed” per delivery, although they never seem as rushed as parcel delivery drivers!

Reastie · 06/03/2019 11:56

YahBasic my friend didn’t have a lift and think it was Tesco that refused to deliver to her door, only the flag entry door.

MonoClue · 06/03/2019 12:03

We have 4 flights of stairs (almost 80 stairs).
Our drivers carry the crates up and I run up and down and grab the bags out, I can carry up 2 crates that way but can’t manage the crates. I’ve normally got 8 crates every fortnight. We usually do 2 runs each that way and the drivers are always really grateful for the help as they only get 12 minutes to do our delivery Shock.
Once we’ve got everything on my landing (attic flat and only one on the landing) he generally gets his breath back while I sling everything into the hallway and he takes the crates back.
Then I collapse in an exhausted heap for 10 minutes before I take everything through to the kitchen and put it away.

Ffsnosexallowed · 06/03/2019 12:05

We get bags. Crates left at front door and I put bags into the hall.

lubeybooby · 06/03/2019 12:06

driver brings a couple of crates at a time to the door. I remove bags and scoot them through to the kitchen

I know they are meant to bring them in but I have 4 cats and the fewer people indoors trying to avoid tripping over curious moggies the better

I hand the previous deliveries bags back to the driver, keeping a few to re-use

DisneyMillie · 06/03/2019 12:09

I get mine without bags and I have a laundry basket for carrying it in (one of those easy to carry ones with the curved shape for your hip). Just unload into it on the doorstep - anything big just put next to the stairs for sorting later.

bevelino · 06/03/2019 12:10

Our delivery driver unpacks the shopping in the kitchen and is happy to do so.

NannyRed · 06/03/2019 12:12

I let mine carry the bags into the kitchen. I told him to bring the boxes in and empty the bagsout of the box but they’re not allowed to bring the box in.

Nousernameforme · 06/03/2019 12:13

We are another one who gets them to drop it in the doorway. I have done online shopping for years now and always do a doorway drop off they get to their next drop off quicker and i don't like strangers in my home

MadamBuxton · 06/03/2019 12:16

For those of you not having bags, it's worth knowing that Ocado will take back (and pay 5p per bag for) bags from anywhere. My technique is to have bags with my usual Sainsbos delivery so I can unload in the hall without bottles of fevertree apples rolling about everywhere then when I do a less frequent Ocado order, return all my bags then - they'll take up to 100 at a time.

WarpedGalaxy · 06/03/2019 12:18

Don’t like strangers in my personal space?

How do you people go on when you need work doing on your homes? It’s a delivery. He’s there to drop stuff off and then leave in as little time as that takes. He’d be carrying crates to your kitchen and unloading the bags then carrying the crates back out, he’s not planning on moving in permanently.

whatsthepointthen · 06/03/2019 12:19

I had a friend who lived on a second flat and she said the grocery delivery people refused to deliver to her front door and would only deliver to the main entrance of the flat leaving her to carry it up all the stairs. I wonder if that’s always the case with people in flats.

I lived in a 3rd floor flat with no lift and the drivers were always arsey about bringing it up so I stopped ordering online.

ItWentInMyEye · 06/03/2019 12:26

@LancsPear Have you tried scented nappy bags for your dogs poo? We've got a husky and normal size dog bags were too small 🤢 nappy bags are bigger and sort of mask the rancid smell.

To answer your question though, driver brings crates to the doorstep, I unload bags into the hallway while he gets another and then carry everything into the kitchen once he's goneZ
