As title really, what age did your children stop calling you Mummy?

RosemarysBush · 04/03/2019 22:41

My ds started calling us Dude and LadyMother at about 12.

Bloggee · 04/03/2019 22:42

DD (10) says Mummy but DD (7) has resorted to Mum

BlimeyCalmDown · 04/03/2019 22:48

I find it totally cringe worthy hearing adults refer to their mums as mummy!

MumUnderTheMoon · 04/03/2019 22:48

I still call my mum "mummy" to her face but refer to her as "my mum" to other people.

elQuintoConyo · 04/03/2019 22:50

My parents have always been mum and dad.

To our 7yo DH and I are mammy and daddy. He sometimes slips into mamá and papá in front of his friends, we don't mind.

If I ask DS to ask DH if he wants a cup of tea, he'll stand at the bottom of the stairs and yell, "Chicken! Do want tea?" Grin

ThorsMistress · 04/03/2019 22:55

DS is 7 and has started calling me Mum the last few days

NoShitHemlock · 04/03/2019 22:57

DD was 11 when she stopped calling me mummy (and I cried on the quiet), These days I get "mum" or "me madre" cos she is doing Spanish and thinks she is a smart arse Wink

ValleyoftheHorses · 04/03/2019 22:59

It think he’s copying DH who does call me babe sometimes. I’ve pointed out it’s weird. He’s started calling DH dude as well Grin

BlueJag · 04/03/2019 23:04

My son never called me Mummy. Not once ever. He is 13 now. I know he never will.

INeedToGetHealthy · 04/03/2019 23:11

My 3 DSs age 19 (with SN), 14 and 8 call us Mummy & Daddy. In public when mentioning parents to DS2 I refer to us as Mum & Dad to save him any embarrassment.
When Dbro and myself were about 6 & 8 our parents suggested that we should not call our DPs Mummy & Daddy, which they possibly meant calling them Mum & Dad. This backfired badly, as we have never called them Mummy/Mum or Daddy/Dad ever since. Usually a phone call starts with "hello, it's me".

TheCrowFromBelow · 04/03/2019 23:16

I’m called G at the moment Confused
Or Muuuuum.

Serin · 04/03/2019 23:18

I grew up calling my parents Mum and Dad and would have thought soft anyone who said Mummy and Daddy.
However, our DC still called me Mummy at 14, and most of their rugby pals also used Mummy and Daddy until early teens.
Just a different geographical area I guess.

redastherose · 04/03/2019 23:20

My 24 year old still does sometimes, my 14 year old hasn't said it since she was really little maybe 5 or 6. Just depends on the child IME.

pinkgloves · 04/03/2019 23:21

DH is 38 and still calls his Mum 'Mummy'. BearHmm

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 04/03/2019 23:28

We all say Maw.

Pasithea · 04/03/2019 23:30

Step kids call me by my name sgc call me nanny. Or nanny firsname or just my first name. But they call my mum nannymumma. As she’s nanny’s mumma

Billythecat · 04/03/2019 23:33

I'm 28 and still call her Mummy- feels like I couldn't bear to call her anything different. I also use Daddy. I refer to them as 'my mum and dad' when talking about them but it's always Mummy and Daddy in person. My fiancé is 30 and it is exactly the same in his family :) so no one thinking my way is weird

BarbarianMum · 04/03/2019 23:46

My 13 year old calls me mum, mummy or mother depending on his mood or the audience.

With ds2 (11) its mostly mum or moo these days but mummy does get used.

There was a period at 5 or 6 when I was most definitely mum and mummy was too childish but they both seem to have grown out of such worries now.

nutellalove · 04/03/2019 23:49

Well I'm late twenties and still call my mum mummy. She and her siblings also all call their mum mummy so... maybe never! Haha

ThriftyMcThrifty · 05/03/2019 06:19

Mine only called me mummy until they started preschool at 3, now it’s mama (Spanish school). My oldest does call me mum though, he’s seven and has picked it up from me talking to mine.

BringOnTheScience · 05/03/2019 11:14

I'm 50. I switched to Mum in my teens, but didn't live with my dad so he said Daddy. I still call him Daddy.

My teens both still call us Mummy & Daddy. I'm sure they refer to us as Mum & Dad when they're with their friends.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 05/03/2019 11:17

I’m thirty and still call her mummy!! (Only to her though, she’s my mum to everyone else!)

This (except that I am in my 40s).

littlepeas · 05/03/2019 11:17

I am in my late 30's and still sometimes say mummy and daddy (not always). I've struck a deal with my older 2 (ds10 and dd9) that they can call me mum in front of their friends, but I'd prefer them to continue to use mummy otherwise - they are fine with this! Ds7 still calls me mama!

GregoryPeckingDuck · 05/03/2019 11:17

My husband and his siblings still call their mother mummy. I never used mummy but still call my father pappa (mother is dead so she doesn’t get called anything). My father still calls his mother mama. I hope my children don’t switch to mum, it sounds awful.

IOnWednesdaysWeWearPinkI · 05/03/2019 13:03

40 year old Sil still calls Pils mummy and daddy with an annoying baby voice I cringe everytime I hear her say it or when she writes about them on social media saying mummy and daddy... not sure if its because she's single with no children and wants that attention or not
