I never can (work) or attend assemblies or school plays or those days when parents are invited in.

It does make me feel bad and as if they are missing out.

You are not being U to want to pick your kids up. But you are also not alone.

I got to 99% of things but I work flexi and have a lot of toil to take. I feel very privileged I can do this

As I teacher I missed everything, assemblies, plays, even the GCSE Awards presentation for the youngest as it was held in the afternoon, stupidly. When the eldest was graduating from Uni I asked for one day off to go down and getting it was like pulling teeth!

That’s my take on it Muddy

@dameofdilemma SO TRUE!!
My DH does drop offs at breakfast club and I pick up (3 days per week), so he shares that equally. He works FT so can't do drop off or pick up from school. We share days off for random things, and try to share WFH where needed to be around for home/kid stuff.
He is v lucky to have an employer who will accommodate that...
actually you know what? He's not 'lucky'. All fucking employers should. All of them.

Picking up my DC from school 4 days a week makes me so happy. I love being there. I don't always do the morning run, luckily my DH and I share that. I know my career has taken a bit hit, as the hours I work are around picking up my DC, and feeling a little bit judged my high achieving career friends! but I wouldn't change it. I've got years and years to build my career back up but I'll only be a mummy with primary school aged kids now & I'm loving it (most days).

That’s what I tell myself.....I’ve got a good 25 years left in my career yet so plenty of time to worry myself anout that.

I do often think about doing back to FT hours because of the financial benefits it would bring but the sacrifices I’d have to make in terms of being around for my children doesnt make it worthwhile.

However, I’m lucky enough to be able to have that choice whereas a lot of others dont.
