It's mine and my partners current target to save £50k which would be enough for a 15% house deposit and some left over for fees and furniture.

We have been saving now for 4.5 years and managed to save 40k between us so guess if I were to answer the question I would say 5.5 years in total. (Just to add no dc and cheap rent and generally cutting costs... rarely buy clothes, meals outside etc)

Aibu to ask you how long it would take to save 50k?

Just realised I don't know if this post will make it look like I am bragging, I don't mean to and I hope it doesn't come across that way, I know we are in a very very fortunate position to be able to save so much!

At a guess...312 years 😂

missmouse101 · 02/03/2019 18:38

Probably about 50 years, if no unforseen expenses occurred and nothing major ever needed doing. I'd be dead by then anyway.Hmm

SummerHouse · 02/03/2019 18:38

Good question! 50 years I guess. But I would have to give up a lot of treats.

BlueSkiesLies · 02/03/2019 18:39

A year if I stopped doing anything fun, no eating out, no holidays, just basics food at home.

Youmadorwhat · 02/03/2019 18:39

At the moment we save approximately 1k a month so just over 2years.

Al2O3 · 02/03/2019 18:40

Much less than a year but why does it matter?

You have done very well. You are also insecure. So long as you and your partner did it together and are a team you do not need to seek the recognition you think you need.

ANiceLuxury · 02/03/2019 18:40

It would take me less than a year but we are high earners.

Most people are not high earners and therefore an average person it could take many many years.

SummerHouse · 02/03/2019 18:40

missmouse see you in heaven and we can go through all our accounts and receipts and wonder how much better our lives would have been if we hadn't had to save 50k Grin

saxatablesalt · 02/03/2019 18:40

About 3 years. Combined monthly income is 6.5k.

Youmadorwhat · 02/03/2019 18:41

But we also have two kids and are mortgage free.

AlrightTreacle · 02/03/2019 18:52

4 months.

MitziK · 02/03/2019 18:56

About 137 years if things are going well.

RedRiverShore · 02/03/2019 19:02

A couple of years or so

Slazengerbag · 02/03/2019 19:02

Probably about 10 years. But realistically it would never happen. The car would break down, washing machine would need replacing, driving lessons, school trips and so on.

3luckystars · 02/03/2019 19:05

50,000 years. If I brought my lunch to work every single day.

Princessmushroom · 02/03/2019 19:06

10 months.

My business is doing really well atm and I am averaging putting away £5k per month. Jan was £8k.

Not a humble brag - you asked

Teateaandmoretea · 02/03/2019 19:08

At the moment we save approximately 1k a month so just over 2years.

I assume you mean each or your maths is way out.

This thread is pretty pointless. For most it is an impossible amount of saving, for others without mortgages/ expensive lifestyles and with high incomes it isnt that much.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 02/03/2019 19:10

I currently save £725 per month (excluding pension contributions), so 5 years 9 months. Could probably halve that timeframe if I cut back on non-essential spending.

Twickerhun · 02/03/2019 19:11

Never? Hope that helps.
Thanks for making me realise how shit our financial situation is.

EnglishRose13 · 02/03/2019 19:12

Before we had a child, probably 5 years.

Now, we save about £300 a month. So, what's that -13/14 years?

Crowdo · 02/03/2019 19:14

I don't think I could save that amount of money in my lifetime.

3out · 02/03/2019 19:15

This is a really depressing thread. I’m happy for the financially successful posters, but blow me it doesn’t half highlight how the other ‘half’ live.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 02/03/2019 19:24

@Teateaandmoretea think yours is more out 1k x 24 months £24k & the pp said 'just over 2 years' correct, no🤷🏻‍♀️

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 02/03/2019 19:25

Never. It's going to take 3 more years, if not more, to get myself out of debt before I can even begin to save anything.

Back when I had a full time job, no kids and minimal outgoings I only had £4k in savings and I thought I was doing well!

loveliesbleeding1 · 02/03/2019 19:29

Wouldn’t need to save, that amount is in my back pocket right now.
