My DM would have a shit fit if someone put out gravy in a pyrex on a nicely set dinner table!

I use my garlic press, my ironing board and my spiraliser loads- I spiralise lots of carrot to add to things. I'd like a smaller, electric one though, mine's massive and v labour intensive. And I have sliced a finger open trying to clean the blade out.

My tower steamer is the gadget I'd get rid of, it was a bugger to set up and clean. I have a sistema microwave steamer now and I've never looked back. Use my stick blender less but I love it when I do use it, it's handy for soup. Oh, and pizza slicer rollers. I use scissors!

BloodyHellBeryl · 01/03/2019 08:23

Whinge glasses? Handy for miserable drunks.
Insulted gravy boats? I can imagine the gravy insulting the boat.
Ice cubes made in loaf tins? Christ, just how big are your gin glasses?
😂
Electric egg poacher resides in the deepest darkest corner of my cupboard. Absolutely useless and a real pain to clean. Used once, forgotten since.

Roussette · 01/03/2019 08:29

If you are making homemade soup and everything is ready to be blended in the saucepan with the stick blender, what do you use if you don't have a stick blender?!

I use mine loads. And my pizza wheel whenever we have pizza! But I'e never found a garlic press that works. I've probably bought about 6. I know just add a bit of salt and mash it up in a pestle and mortar.

leiaskye · 01/03/2019 08:29

Air fryer

For some (sad) reason, DH was excited to get one. Found out one was half price on Black Friday, & it’s been used 3 times since.

Takes up a huge space in the cupboard, & when in use the strange ‘air’ sound it makes gives me a headache!

leiaskye · 01/03/2019 08:32

I use my garlic press at least once a week, works a treat.

Why does anyone need somewhere to put their used bags, other than straight on the bin?

Pizza cutter also gets used whenever we have pizza, and the ice cream scoop, about once a fortnight.

leiaskye · 01/03/2019 08:32

*t-bags

Hamsternauts · 01/03/2019 08:40

And James Dyson can F off from my telly. Campaigning for Leave and then taking his factory off to Singapore
Yep. Never will i buy Dyson.

ZaZathecat · 01/03/2019 08:53

Air fryer - fine if you're cooking for 1 but doesn't hack it for a family.

Sushi bazooka - dd wanted it. Used once.

greenelephantscarf · 01/03/2019 09:01

if you put hot tea bags in the bin, the lid steams up and gets wet. eww

It's not the gravy boats fault. You just need a bigger one.
Mine is huge (lWink) and sits in my cupboard quite nicely. It never drips either. It cost £5 from Asda about ten years ago.
Gravy tastes wrong if it's not poured from a gravy boat

babysharkah · 01/03/2019 09:09

I love my gravy boat and spoon rest.

I had a tea spoon rest but accidentally smashed it, I'll be replacing it as DH otherwise leaves the spoons everywhere and doesn't seem to see them to put them in the dishwasher.

Garlic press, garlic peeler, food processor, toastie maker, pizza slicer all gone the way of the charity shop. I have decent knives and a tiny kitchen so don't need clutter. Kitchen scissors are better for pizza!

Pyrex jug for gravy!

TheGrandHighWitch · 01/03/2019 10:06

I usually use a pyrex jug for gravy but recently started using gravy boats too (I have 2). The gravy boats are particularly handy for the children to our their own gravy as the jug was just too heavy for them and they'd spill it everywhere.

Most useless household item in my house apart from my iron and ironing board is probably the nappy bin I had when one of the children was a baby. I'd had vouchers that meant I got it for free if I bought one of the refill bag things for it. For those of you who've never had the 'pleasure' of owning one, it turns used nappies into weird nappy shaped sausages which you still have to deal with anyway once the bin is full. Much easier for me to just chuck them into the main bin one by one.

Putting a teabag in a swing bin without getting either a, the bin, or b, the spoon dirty is next to impossible. But that just means swing bins are useless really.

love my gravy boat.
Large, and pours beautifully. rets of gravy stays in pan to be reheated for seconds (can't stand cold gravy)

spoon rest - love mine, it lives by the cooker, so no need to store!

outpinked · 01/03/2019 10:54

We use the Pyrex jug, much more efficient.

YoungChrone · 01/03/2019 10:56

Am I the only person who just uses my glass measuring jug for gravy? Bit perplexed about why people are wondering what else the OP would use...
I agree the gravy boat is a waste of time.

steppemum · 01/03/2019 10:57

hmm, I have a bowl for used tea bags, and i use my ironing board occasionally, and pizza wheel every time we have pizza.
garlic press is in use daily!

YoungChrone · 01/03/2019 10:57

Only half way down and find I may be right out of step with mumsnet.
I use stick blender, ironing board, mezzaluna, toast rack and gravy boat every week at least.
I also use the spoon rest but after that there is no need to buy one as almost anything can do the same job.. make me is a nice ' present from...' gift .
I don't see myself as a gadget buying so can't comment on some of the other 'useless 'articles.

WindsfromtheNE · 01/03/2019 14:02

Dyson. Messiest home item ever. Why would you invent a vacuum cleaner that involves leaving a haze of dust/dirt/skin flakes in the air when you need to empty it?

safariboot · 01/03/2019 14:08

I just empty the Dyson outdoors straight into the wheelie bin. Though that can mean waiting for the rain to stop which is a PITA.
