To think I can lose 2 stone in 12 weeks?

Please someone tell me it’s possible and they have done it...
I’m so annoyed with my self. I wanted to lose ideally 2.5 stone. I started in January and keep doing well for a week and then getting lazy. I’ve now lost out on 7 weeks and I could kick myself.
I’ve lowered my goal to 2 stone. I’m aiming to go to the gym at least 2-3 times a week but some weeks it’s not possible.
Can I do it? If I’m really strict with what I eat?

OP, I’m pretty much the same weight as you and would also like to lose two stone before my holiday in July. I’ve managed a stone before with Tesco own brand slim fast (although sounds like that might not be suitable for you). I have no willpower so found the only way that worked for me was to not give myself the option of proper food for breakfast and lunch. I’ve started on it again this week so fingers crossed.

Just crack on
It’s possible
But stop procrastinating and just do it

I lost 2 stones in 3 months using the 5.2 diet (though I actually did a 4.3 diet, so I think the 5.2 weight loss would be somewhat slower).
At the time I was over 50 and going through the menopause, but I still lost weight.
Like all diets though, you have have to practice self restraint. I got through any wobbles when I really wanted to eat something extra by saying to myself ‘I’ll eat that tomorrow’. When tomorrow came and I could eat whatever, the urge had passed.
I now control/maintain my weight by fasting when I need to.
You also really need to get your head in the right place before any diet or you’re doomed to fail.

Ive lost 22lbs 6 weeks so Yes obviously possible although I am very overweight

BestestBrownies · 26/02/2019 21:58

Believe me, I know all to well how tempting it is to want to lose the weight as quickly as possible, but you're only setting yourself up to fail.

Aim for a stone in the same time period and you'll be in with a chance of success.

Exercise is great for toning, strength, stamina, better sleep, better skin, blah blah; but calorie-controlled dieting is the only way to lose body fat.

I have lost just over 8lb in the last 7 weeks. Yes it is frustratingly slow, but it's easy to stick to and should hopefully stay off in the long term.

ChodeofChodeHall · 26/02/2019 21:58

I lost 2 stone on the 8 week blood sugar diet (and it has stayed off). The first two weeks are really tough but I managed to stay mostly on track and I'm usually rubbish at diets.

venusandmars · 26/02/2019 22:01

Have you lost any weight since January?

The key is to find a way of eating and loosing weight that is sustainable for your lifestyle. Exercise is great for your heart, and it helps to tone you but it's very difficult to exercise off excess weight.

I think that the combination of your 'success' so far, and your intestine problems mean that fast weight loss in a short time will be a massive challenge. Plus you don't have that much weight to lose.

I was similar weight, and I lost the first stone in about 12 weeks. The next stone took a further 8 months, and the final half stone is a real challenge.

Sorry that's probably not what you want to hear. But my main message would be to find a way of eating that is sustainable, doesn't make you feel deprived, and is compatible with your intestinal issues. It might be high fat, low carb, it might be some form of intermittent fasting (there are many variations), it might be as simple as reducing your plate size and eating much smaller quantities.

Key things to stop having are sugar and alcohol.

When I first started low carbing and was really strict with my diet, I lost weight very quickly. Too quickly really as the weight fell off my bum and boobs (Not good!) but also off my waist which was great!

I was also at the gym 4-5 times a week but it was definitely the change in my diet that aided the weight loss.

Papillon45 · 26/02/2019 22:13

I’ve lost 1 stone in 6 weeks doing Slimming World without having to make much of an effort really so I think 2 stone in 12 weeks is definitely doable

Littlemissdaredevil · 26/02/2019 22:15

I’m doing step 2 of the Cambridge diet. I’ve lost 1st 8lbs since 1st Jan

Imustbemad00 · 26/02/2019 22:43

I have a holiday booked, hence the deadline.

At gym I do a mixture of cardio and weights. I know I can stick to it, jist hope it’s achievable.

@catscratchclub what else was on your plan for the 6 week challenge if you don't mind sharing?

Tennesseewhiskey · 27/02/2019 05:39

Its not actually thought to be true that losing weigh quickly is harmful, that it loses muscle and piles back on.

I am using my fitness pal and lost 20lbs since new year. I still to my calories but have chocolate most days. I do have more to lose though. I don't worry about the lower limit. Yesterday I had 700 cals, because I wasnt hungry. I don't get the point in eating when not hungry. That's how I got fat. If I go over by a couple of hundred calories today, it's fine.

The only exercise I have done is up my steps.

bigpawsnopaws · 27/02/2019 05:57

Ive started slimming world. I've lost 11lb in 2 weeks!
I've never eaten so healthily. Lots of fruit and veg, lean meat, pasta, rice. I've even had 2 creme eggs as a treatGrin
The only exercise I've done is abit more walking. Admittedly my diet before was shocking tho.
I do think your goal is possible.

kateandme · 27/02/2019 06:06

I don't know why peope do this.its not nice.its miserable.its causes harm.and its not sustainable long term.you need to gt a good healthy lifestyle to feel and look good.
and so the cycle continues when you eat like a oral human being and mput the weight back on,in comes the guilt shame sle floathing and bam all is ruined.

Tennesseewhiskey · 27/02/2019 06:17

kateandme Its not miserable for everyone. The latest studies are starting to show losing weigh quickly or low calorie diets aren't harmful and that you are no more likely to put it on again, than people who lose it slowly.

It's about changing your habits. If you can do that and lose weight quickly, there isn't an issue. I have changed my eating habits and am happier than I have ever been. I do eat very little some days, because i listen to my body now. If I am not hungry, I wont eat if I am I do.

Everyone I know who is slim, does the same. I spent years making sure I ate enough, not too much not too little. Learning to eat when I want and not when I don't, is freeing. Being able to have chocolate because I fancy it, is great.

If you are finding it miserable or have no intention of changing habits and going back to over eating when it's over, then no it's not great.

Neome · 27/02/2019 06:17

I joined the blood sugar diet Michael Mosely 12 week thing to support someone who was pre diabetic and they have lost almost 2 stone by week 8 of strict low calorie diet. The book and website gives researched medical evidence about this and the safety aspect. You can also switch between the strict low calorie version, 5:2 and Mediterranean during the 12 week enrolment which I did (I'm not diabetic/prediabetic and have only lost about 10lbs so far).

bigpawsnopaws · 27/02/2019 06:27

kate I'm not miserable. I'm enjoying being in control, eating healthy food, feeling good, and losing weight. What's miserable about that?!

MiGi777 · 27/02/2019 06:40

I lost a stone in 5 weeks but I was 14 stone and they say the first lot of weight comes off easily? I've lost more since but I've done it really slowly and still have a stone to go. If I want to lose weight fast I go sugar free. It's really hard the first couple of days, head aches etc... But it really worked for me in the past. You can live without sugar too you don't actually need it but it's just so nice!!

Cliffdonville · 27/02/2019 07:10

I lost nearly 3 stone in 12 weeks on the exante diet, not for everyone but it worked for me and changed my relationship with food. I have kept it off and am now losing 1-3lbs a week by eating healthily. I have about a stone more to lose until I’m in the middle of my healthy weight range.
You can do it!

UnperfectLife · 27/02/2019 07:32

I think it is possible but it depends how much you want it- you've really got to get your game on! You've been fannying around since January- why is that? Why has your motivation not kicked in yet???
I find i need motivation- mine was to lose weight so I'd improve at my sporting hobby. I also need accountability- My FitnessPal is great for this. I'm often on MN singing its praises as a game changer...
I've been doing low carb but really just as a means to low calorie. Lost 3 stone so far. Half a stone to go. 1000-1200 cals a day, 7 days a week... i will lose 2-3lbs. But i do take regular breaks for Christmas, holidays etc where i don't go mad but stop being a diet bore!
Weightloss comes mostly from diet. Exercise is great for health, strength and toning. (I find I need to eat to fuel my exercise...)

vampirethriller · 27/02/2019 07:54

I've just lost 3 stone in 3 months by cutting down on carbs and walking fast 2 hours a day.

HolidayQ · 27/02/2019 08:26

kateandme Im more miserable being overweight tbh!

GinghamChicken · 27/02/2019 13:15

A fitness trainer at my gym claims to have lost 16Kg (2.5 stone) in 2019 through exercise. Surely that rate of loss is unhealthy? (If, indeed, she has lost so much and isn't just pushing for clients.)

madcatladyforever · 27/02/2019 13:17

Easy, get yourself a months order of Exante online and you'll lose 3 stone in 12 weeks.
