Not really aibu but posting for traffic.

He's moving Friday, we've bought the below (unexpected tax rebate so he's very lucky).

What have we forgotten? Or what was invaluable to you when you first moved, I can't remember it was so long ago!

Sofa
Microwave
Kettle
Fridge freezer
Toaster
Knives and forks
Tin opener
Bed
Bedding & duvet set
Pans
Tea towels
Towels
First freezer shop - to be done
Wardrobe is built in
Kitchen starter set as in fish slice etc

Might be worth getting him a simple meal cookbook to ease him off the freezer section 😊

A roll of gaffer tape- invaluable for repairs and quick fixes.

We haven't just gone out and picked stuff he's picked.

I'm glad we can do this for him.

He's a good kid. He's grown up a lot in 12 months and I'm very proud of him.

Yes he's in a good wage but we wanted to do this for him.

@NarcissistMum

Apologies if I came across as defensive or rude I didn't mean to.

I understand the pride in saving for things. I had to do it myself.

We are in a position to help him. Maybe too much. Time will tell.
I hope I didn't offend you x

Having recently fitted out our home from home,

Decent scissors
Pens
Pencils
Sellotape
A notebook
A pack of cards
A small collection of screwdrivers
A decent tape measure
Candles and matches or a torch for if there’s a power cut
A warm blanket for cold nights
A low energy heater for nights when it’s not worth having the heating on.
Plastic bags and tin foil

A couple of emergency birthday cards 😂😂😂 As if! 😂

I think it’s great that you can and wanted to 😊

I didn’t mean you hadn’t let him choose! Not at all. Just that having stuff you still need to go and get is fine and part of the fun of having your own place. But as I say, that’s me, a lad maybe not so much 🤣

How far away is his place from yours?

My friend's son has just bought his first house and for his housewarming present, I bought lots of cleaning and washing things - washing liquid, bleach, dishcloths, washing up liquid, furniture polish, dusters etc etc.

This is properly lovely.
When both DC left home, we skipped about in IKEA choosing things and spending stupid amounts.

But, it wasn’t about the STUFf, it was about letting them go...and saying ‘you will need a bath mat, people neeed bathmats, this is part of your new life, to care about bath mats...off you fly....’.

It was half sad, but half joyful, launching them out into the world.

He is lucky to have you OPEN

He will let a cook book gather dust.

I will get him an Iceland voucher before I get him a cook book lol.

He was a child when he moved in. 12 months of nagging and going on has made
Him grow up quite a lot.

He will be glad of me not going on but he's admitted that it's made him grow up Grin

He's a different person now. He doesn't get my going on about keeping his room clean but I know he will once he moves.

It's great to see him so excited and reviewing hoovers he prob won't use for 6 weeks.

And I get a dressing room 😂

I think it’s nice that you have done this for him. If I was 21 or 41 I would still be thrilled to have someone make an effort to do something so thoughtful.

Getting all the stuff for your first place was really exciting for me - are you sure he wants you to buy absolutely everything? This is exactly the sort of thing a mothering mum would do Grin.

He will be about 6 miles as the crow flies from us but it will be £4 across the tunnel both ways.

I expect once a week for washing and drying and a roast is when we will we him!

But if so it's a nice new tradition that a Sunday is a family day. He's got a young step sister at home who will miss him so every Sunday if he can fit us in willbe nice

Your thoughtfulness and care is lovely. Well done.

Yes I'm sure.

We have all sat together and talked about moving and what he will need.

We have bought him A LOT.

More than most. On the basis he saves some each month now he hasn't got to buy anything. We can't monitor this but he's looked into saving schemes and we trust he will do this.
If he doesn't, it's his loss.

We have given him the best start we can.

We're not in the position to provide house deposits and I think that things like that need to be saved for yourself or at least matched.
