Not really aibu but posting for traffic.

He's moving Friday, we've bought the below (unexpected tax rebate so he's very lucky).

What have we forgotten? Or what was invaluable to you when you first moved, I can't remember it was so long ago!

Sofa
Microwave
Kettle
Fridge freezer
Toaster
Knives and forks
Tin opener
Bed
Bedding & duvet set
Pans
Tea towels
Towels
First freezer shop - to be done
Wardrobe is built in
Kitchen starter set as in fish slice etc

Light bulbs unless you're sure they're already there (you'd be surprised!) but spares wouldn't hurt. Step ladder?

Does the place already have curtains/blinds?

A kitchen bin would keep him tidy.
A bedside lamp is a nice extra
Clothes pegs

I don't know any 21 year olds that would include a fish slice in a kitchen starter kit!! :)

Mini first aid kit - plasters, paracetamol, ibuprofen, antacid, antihistamine, dettol, lemsip, tweezers etc. And a lidded box to keep them in.

Bins! Of all types needed. And bin liners and black sacs. A Gorge Foreman grill is great, DH and I don't use it so much now but when we first lived together as students we used it all the time.

I know we don’t really use them too much anymore, but if he’s getting his own internet, a house phone?

itsbritneybiatches · 26/02/2019 20:17

Honestly. What a fuss! He's 21 - let him do it himself.

You sound lovely 😊

21, that’s still young, especially when you’ve been pampered (lucky sod). Good you’ve had a year helping him to grow up though!

Will he be living on his own or is he getting house mates?

My friend just had to go to help her son overseas, after an accident. He’s late 20’s, bit pampered at home but lived away from home about 6 years now. Out the house he’s immaculate, girls falling all over him, nice girlfriends etc. When she arrived the lovely apartment he had was disgusting, she was horrified. While he was in hospital she cleaned it up and paid for the carpets to be cleaned. When he got home and was well enough she read him the riot act. It would be interesting to see what it’s lije now 6 months on.

Hopefully your SS is far better st looking after his place!

His Mum mothered him so much? And you have bought him all that? He should be getting the cash ready to treat you to a takeaway. In our first place, we had a borrowed garden table to eat off, a 3rd hand sofa, 2nd hand fridge etc etc.

We saved to buy our first table, sofa, tv. And it made us feel proud we had done that. You can give him that gift.

A kitchen bin would keep him tidy

That’s an incredibly optimistic outlook 🤣😂🤣😂

You’ve bought him more than enough. Half the fun of having your own place is choosing things YOU want.

Mind you, possibly not for a lad 🤣

@NarcissistMum

I'm proud to give him anything. If we didn't have it right now he couldn't have it.

As it is he can.

He's grateful. He realises how much it's all cost and he's very very grateful.

I'm really happy we can but if we couldn't we couldn't. He totally gets that.

I feel good being able to do this for him.
It's more than my parents could of done.
