Should we be buying air conditioning units in preparation for the a 40c summer?

It was 25c in my car earlier.

I put the air con on in FEBRUARY!

Anyone else slightly freaked out?

It better be nice in May, I just booked a week on holiday.

It is faintly ridiculous to think that the planet, which has been doing just fine for millennia, going through hot and cold phases, doesn't know what it's doing!

Exactly! The planet has gone from tropical to ice age and everything in between, many times over. I'm sure it's capable of doing the same for the rest of its existence (approx 3.5bn years).

It's 16 degrees where I am, down to 9 next week.

Bluntness100 · 27/02/2019 14:10

If you look back over the centuries, weather is cyclical, this really isn't a first or something to be worried about. Living memory as a very short time frame for our planet.

I have to say it's funny to see you saying that Silvery. Grin You know better than most of the experts on climate change AND Brexit. You should bottle your confidence in your own opinions!

BigChocFrenzy · 27/02/2019 16:00

The planet will be fine - it's not going to crack apart.

The humans living on it though .....

BigChocFrenzy · 27/02/2019 16:04

and if you think humans can't crack up ....
climate change has caused a shortage of cocoa plants of sufficient quality predicted, which means a shortage of chocolate Confused

Nobody is denying that the world has warmed and cooled in its history. It's the rate of warming that is the problem. 10 times faster than before, at the moment. Might also speed up due to feedback systems and dominio effects.

Co2 levels compared over last 650, 000 years

So should we be worried, re: unusually warm weather?

Are you suggesting that there have not been shifts from tropical to ice age without any 'help' from humans throughout the planet's life? I could take you to locations in the UK which show geological and paleontological evidence.

As for having confidence in my own opinions, don't we all? I'm sorry if you have no confidence in yours.

99% of the m scientific community believe that climate change is man made and we are reaching a tipping point.
There is pretty much no other issue that has so much evidence based research and consensus.
But don’t let the facts get in the way of your opinion.

Like a PP I am Worried about nature . Last year the heat fucked it . This year things will bloom and then die when the cold comes back

We have a potato 🥔 shortage after last summer . Given the tradition to plant based diets it’s very worrying

Fridakahlofan · 28/02/2019 07:07

I can’t believe the proportion of people on this thread not worried about climate change. Look at any trust worthy news source and think of the next generation I beg of you!

Skyejuly · 28/02/2019 09:36

Yep last year the heat killed off most things :(

Honeyroar · 28/02/2019 10:04

I’m quite amazed that there are so many people are saying climate change doesn’t exist or isn’t a problem. I’m no scientist, but I can’t believe that the way we live can be anything but bad for the planet. I also roll my eyes at the “well I do x and y already so I’ve already done my bit and will continue doing z, which isn’t environmentally friendly. Also when people say other countries cause more pollution so why should we bother. We’re supposed to be the educated ones!

dorisdog · 28/02/2019 10:11

Enjoy the weather. And be worried about climate change. (Support the global school strikes is probably the best thing to do right now.)
