I've been a full time carer of a family member for years.
I can't do it anymore
There's nobody else who will help me
Aibu to ring s/s right now and say no I'm done.
Does that make me a bitch?

How are you today? Was the GP helpful?

Sending a massive hug, 'cos I'm in a very similar position - caring 24/7 for my Dad, who is bed/chairbound and with one leg and mid-stage dementia. I've not been home for 18 months now - my DH has made it over to see me (he's in another country) once in all that time, though he's coming back for a few days at the end of the month. I'm living for those few days!

Please come back and tell us how things are going for you - I've come so close to making the call myself, but know Dad'll be taken into a home, and I just can't do that. I'm lucky in that I have a couple of friends who come round and keep me sane once a week or so - but I know how hard it is. Makes me angry that there's no easily-accessible respite available - I'd give anything for even a few hours off!
