to ask where you would go on holiday not as expensive as a cruise?

If you were a single 50 year old female who fancied a break but couldn't afford a cruise, where would you go?

The world is you oyster! Cruise prices start at £600 a week to £2000+ so difficult to advise without knowing your budget and what you are looking for. Don't forget when you compare that the cost of food and entertainment is taking into account with the cruise. There tends to be a single supplement for all all-inclusive accommodations.

Kneehigim · 25/02/2019 05:40

Budget is about £700!

Portugal! Lisbon or Porto - great value for money and loads to do/see or you can just people-watch/soak up the atmosphere, easy to get about and great food and drink options. I’d love to go there on my own and just do my own thing. Smile

ememem84 · 25/02/2019 06:42

Personally for a trip alone I’d book an all inclusive deal somewhere and sit by the pool and chill. Canaries, Cape Verde, Spain, Portugal, Greece...

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/02/2019 06:58

What sort of holiday do you want? City, country, beach?

user1474894224 · 25/02/2019 07:04

I'd go in a city break....current list of places I'd like to go....Belfast, Berlin, Venice, Geneva.

FinallyHere · 25/02/2019 07:22

I would look out for an activity holiday, making sure it was run so that I could join things or not as I liked.

Walking and yoga is my favourite combination, there are loads out there

Birdsgottafly · 25/02/2019 07:27

You'll habe to narrow it down for us.

Do you want Sun/when are you going.

Do you want a Cultural break, Beach, Activity holiday?

I have places on my to-do-list. I want to go to Lisbon, Strasbourg (but over Christmas) and I've got a few walking holidays that I want to get fit enough for.

All would be do able on your budget.

Birdsgottafly · 25/02/2019 07:28

I'm 51 and single.

Oxford2018 · 25/02/2019 08:13

Croatia? We have booked for end of July, flights from Heathrow about £100-150pp, there are lots of AirBnBs/hotels available and you can book excursions to different islands/cities fairly cheaply Smile

Oxford2018 · 25/02/2019 08:16

Also scope for 'cruise-like' country hopping, you can book a 1 day trip from Pula, Croatia to Venice by boat for £60pp

FusionChefGeoff · 25/02/2019 08:22

Do you have any hobbies or anything you've always fancied trying but never got round to it??

If I was on my own I think I'd do an activity holiday eg yoga / language immersion / art.

0rangeB0ttle · 25/02/2019 09:38

I'd recommend Amsterdam. If you buy the 'I am Amsterdam card' it gives you free travel on teams in city & discount into some museums & a free boat trip. You can walk round the parks and canals & sit & people watch. Fantastic art galleries & museums. You can get free ferry behind central station to the film museum & places on that side of river. Also lots of markets to wander round. If you go to Cape Verde in contrast there is beach, but very little to see or do in the town & it can be windy.

Not teams, but trams

MatildaTheCat · 25/02/2019 09:42

Guided tour of somewhere exciting like India, Vietnam or Thailand? In a small group. All the ease of a cruise and none of the awful drawbacks.

0rangeB0ttle · 25/02/2019 09:54

Have a look at Bex Band the ordinary adventurer she has some trips that you could join or perhaps in the future. The whale shark trip looks good. Secondly, I have a friend who travels loads on short breaks, gets cheap flights and does the free walking tours round cities.

PrismGuile · 25/02/2019 11:36

Florence 100%

PengAly · 25/02/2019 11:48

So many better options that a cruise! But I'm biased as I hate, hate, hate the idea of cruises (sorry, my opinion)

Personally, for best deals I always books flights and hotel separately and the bonus is you know exactly what you are getting, where as those package ones often can have surprises you don't want. Really depends what kind of holiday you want? Beach or city? Active or lazy? Interested in new cultures?

100% this. I dream of doing a holiday like this. Look at Intrepid

ajandjjmum · 25/02/2019 12:09

DD has travelled with Intrepid - once on her own. They will tell you the ages etc. of people booked on to a trip, so you can judge if it would be a good fit.

margotsdevil · 25/02/2019 12:15

If the cost is all that's putting you off I think you'd be able to get a cruise with MSC/Costa for that price Smile

LakieLady · 25/02/2019 12:27

A friend of mine goes on a lot of holidays with Explore. She's been to everywhere I've ever heard of and lots of places I haven't.

She really rates them and says there are always quite a few women travelling solo, so she doesn't feel like Billy No-Mates.

I happen to be very fond of cruising, and if that's what you want the budget will certainly get you one. These are all for June ...
