To want to sob because of this mouth ulcer

MyGastIsFlabbered · 23/02/2019 22:20

I've got a bloody great ulcer on my tongue and it's so painful. Eating and drinking is agony and I honestly just want to sit and sob. How long do ulcers take to heal?

OP posts:

Rub fresh pineapple on it and eat fresh pineapple. A friend went through chemo and had terrible mouth ulcers, but pineapple was her saviour every time

JuniperBeer · 23/02/2019 22:54

Is it just me that pops them? Bites them? Then they disappear?!

chemenger · 23/02/2019 22:58

Salt works for me.

SilviaSalmon · 23/02/2019 23:01

Hold half a garlic clove on it for 30 seconds. The pain will be excruciating, but it will stop hurting.

Juicyfrooty · 23/02/2019 23:06

Wow juniper you must be made of stronger stuff than me, I nearly cry if my toothbrush bumps against one

Siameasy · 23/02/2019 23:08

They are the worst
Winter before last I had one on my throat - it was agony. I did get one of those throat spray things
Diet Coke (or whatever sweetener is in it) give me ulcers

longwayoff · 23/02/2019 23:10

Bicarb or baking soda, rub some of the powder onto the ulcer. Works for most inflammation

Drogosnextwife · 23/02/2019 23:12

I couldn't possibly pop mine they are like a hole in my mouth. I sympathise OP, I can have 3 or 4 huge ones at the same time quite a lot, the affect how I speak sometimes. Anbesol liquid is good, also TCP. I will have to try the pineapple suggestion.

WitchDancer · 23/02/2019 23:13

I get a lot of ulcers, mainly due to iron deficiency, and the only thing that helps is warm salt water. It does help heal it as well as taking the sting away so well worth a try.

BetzOnMark3 · 23/02/2019 23:14

Piriton is the only thing that works for me when I get a bad mouth ulcer.

thankssomuchforthat · 23/02/2019 23:16

Iglu is only thing that works...which blocks anything touching the sore. However u have to practice. Put it on a dry ulcer, in front of a mirror with a cotton bud. Then cover it with saliva and it doesn't last long but long enough to eat a meal. It really its the only respite when ive had some stinking agonising ulcers.

seething1234 · 23/02/2019 23:19

A baby aspirin will numb it and give you relief. Even half a one will work. I get them a few times 's year and they are agony. It works and will give you some relief to eat

Whatdoingmummy · 23/02/2019 23:19

I suffer badly with them, I usually get a couple at a time lasting 2 weeks+ :( Awful things aren't they! I've recently used corsodyl & they've healed up within 4-5 days though. I think it's the antibacterial one.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/02/2019 23:35

Vitamin B is a pretty good preventative. Good old Listerine helps mine. Sympathies, they are horrendous.

julensaor · 23/02/2019 23:48

A teaspoon of neat warmed whiskey swished around the mouth OR Sit a clove or 2 on it for 20 minutes OR two dissolvable painkillers such as dispirin and hold each gulp in the mouth for a couple of minutes before swallowing.

everygalaxy · 23/02/2019 23:57

Rinstead pastilles worked for me when I had a lot of them

SuchAToDo · 24/02/2019 00:00

Get some peroxyl mouthwash, the peroxide in it will bubble and fizz and kill off the germs causing the mouth ulcer, you will also find it takes the sting out of the mouth ulcer and speeds up its healing...I always keep a bottle of it in the house, it's Fantastic

Redcampions · 24/02/2019 00:36

Rinsed plastels used to be a godsend. Unfortunetly along with indian brandy you can’t get it anymore

humpydumpybumpy · 24/02/2019 00:50

Dentist and Dr prescribed Oracort Paste (Triamcinolone Acet). A friend took part in a mouth ulcer study and said that it was considered the best treatment. Also agree with the rinsing with salt water and upping both iron and Vit B.

There are different causes. The ones I was told about were celiac disease, EDS (connective tissue disorder), and lack of proper nutrients.

I'm sorry, they really suckFlowers

LikeDolphinsCanSwim · 24/02/2019 00:58

I also find that salt works

myhamsteratefreddiestarr · 24/02/2019 00:58

I used to get ulcers on my tongue when my period was due. It was due to low folate levels and I now have to take folic acid every day which keeps the folate up and prevents it. It’s similar to iron deficiency but folate rather than iron.

Have you had your folate levels checked with a blood test?

I found that bonjela helped the ulcers.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 24/02/2019 01:13

I have a wee electrical machine that helps mouth ulcers using red light. Got it from lloyds online but don't think they sell them any more.

I've only ever used salt on an ulcer one. I had an absolute beast just inside my lip. Someone suggested salt so I dabbed some on. The pain was unbearable and it moved from my lip, slowly emanating through my whole body. Absolute agony.

Polestar50 · 24/02/2019 01:27

I suffered from recurring ulcers a few years ago and was told to try Myrrh Tincture.

I thought it sounded a bit woo but bought some anyway out of desperation. You just dab a bit on each ulcer with a cotton bud. It stings a bit and tastes foul but really does work to temporarily alleviate the pain.

Name7 · 24/02/2019 01:37

Anbesol liquid (NOT the gel) is great. But corsodyl is the best. I had my entire tongue covered in ulcers after a tonsillectomy in my 30’s. I was prescribed steroids in the end as nothing else worked. However Cododyl seemed to shorten the life span of them. Gargle with it as well. Ended up with one massive one on my vocal chords. Not pleasant!

Fascinate · 24/02/2019 04:27

Marmite.

By that I mean as a preventative not a treatment. Ulcers can be caused by lack of Vit B, as pp have said, Marmite is a good source. Works for me, but I'm a lover not a hater 😂😂😂
