AIBU to feel f****d off with a world built for men?

I read** this article with increasing horror.

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/feb/23/truth-world-built-for-men-car-crashes?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

Many parts I recognise; the phone for example, I have a better camera but the phone is larger so harder to actually use.

I struggle to sit on most chairs easily as my feet don't touch the floor; this has caused some back issues.

I've known that most medical research has always been done on white men aged around 25.

The 'gender neutral' toilet thing is just obvious.

This quote, below, pissed me off the most, not least that there was once an AIBU where a pregnant woman was querying at what point did everyone stop driving as she was really struggling. 70% of people (roughly) said, just get on with it. The rest agreed it was challenging.

I very sadly know of a woman who was involved in a minor crash a week before her due date; the baby died.

The situation is even worse for pregnant women. Although a pregnant crash-test dummy was created back in 1996, testing with it is still not government-mandated either in the US or in the EU. In fact, even though car crashes are the No 1 cause of foetal death related to maternal trauma, we haven’t yet developed a seatbelt that works for pregnant women. Research from 2004 suggests that pregnant women should use the standard seatbelt; but 62% of third-trimester pregnant women don’t fit that design.

Also, thinking of this part of the OP, has anybody else noticed that, with few exceptions, the larger models of car are the ones with the default better quality interiors and higher-spec equipment? I wonder if this is deliberate, assuming that men will want more gadgets in 'their' cars whereas small hatchbacks are 'women's cars' and they don't really care (or matter)? Does 'big man's car' = 'quality investment' and 'small woman's car' = 'runaround for nipping to the shops' ?

I think with car equipment it's more about what is cost effective.

If you're making a car that is being sold for £30k, there's a lot more scope to add extras than one that will sell for £10k.

I'm so pissed off and remember seeing this thread so came here to vent.

My brand new ladies bike I purchased today is now damaged because bike racks are designed for men's bikes, even though the product description said ladies bike's fit. So I had to purchase an additionally accessory for £32 to get my ladies bike to fit the rack, which has now damaged my hours old bike frame. Not only that, even with the accessory, the fit is still so poor that I have to take the rear wheel off too.

This would not have happened with a 'man's bike'!

Just to add I would have had no issue with a male bike, except to be able to use the child's bike seat (reason for purchase) I literally can't get on and off the bike with a top straight tube so had to get a step through bike.

I'm so annoyed!!!!

I don't get the one about offices being too cold for women. In my experience it's usually women who find rooms too hot, and men who complain that the women have made them too cold!

You'll be fuming when you realise that tinfoil hats were only designed for men.

DogHairEverywhere · 27/03/2019 12:38

This is being discussed on Jeremy Vine now

Prequelle · 27/03/2019 12:50

Going back a few pages... But I've once rang a GP who refused to prescribe a woman anti-emetic, she ended up severely dehydrated and had to come to us for rapid rehydration. I asked their rationale and got a bit of indignation, soon resolved when I pointed out aiding symptom control is part of their job and prevents women from having to come to an emergency clinic. It's appalling what some HCPs believe about female conditions.

Gth1234 · 27/03/2019 12:56

I just can't believe all these complaints in the 21st century.

Women may have had a justifiable case in the 19th century and earlier, but not now.

Did anyone hear yesterday's abandoned space walk and think "there it is again" ?

Prequelle · 27/03/2019 14:14

After reading more into it I'm not sure the space walk thing is a feminist issue.

There was a Jeremy Vine segment on this on radio 2 today.

Possibly the scariest thing for me is that medical testing is always done on male cells, which can react completely differently to women's cells. So what might work to cure men may have no affect on women.
