To wonder if I could be allergic to toilet roll!?

I’ve been having awful ongoing issues down there for almost 6 months. Been tested for everything under the sun and the only thing that comes back is b strep. Basically feels like thrush, but with an alkaline ph and no answers!

Right before this started, I had a bad skin reaction to a facial treatment. I then had an allergic reaction to hair dye (tint) for the first time in my life. Been colouring my hair since I was 16 and never had an issue.

Is it possible that non scented and not aloe Vera covered toilet roll could cause a reaction? Anyone else ever had issues like this or AIBU and just clutching at straws in desperation...

This! I’ve had the worst itchy flaps for about 18 months, to the point where I scratch myself raw (worse at night). I googled symptoms when I also noticed it happened about ten mins after using loo roll for a wee (doesn’t affect my bum so I think my labia are sensitive).

So despite having a massive 24 pack of loo rolls in the boot of the car I bought some unbleached bamboo loo roll and today is Day 1. I can’t tell you how amazing the difference is. Zero reaction.

I’m also going to buy one of those spray hoses that you attach to the cistern to have a quick wash after each visit. My Muslim mate has one and they are very refreshing. No more itchy flaps for me 🙌🏻

So glad to find this thread! It's just crossed my mind in the bathroom it could maybe be the loo roll. But I have just gone back to andrex, white roll, not the special sort or quilted. I had been using 'WHO GIVES A CRAP?' for almost a year and then it ran out and back to thrush like problems. I had constant repetitive problems a year ago, then I got pregnant and things seemed to settle, but that was the same time we changed loo roll.... Its all adding up now. Thank you for sharing ladies! Was getting so exasperated with symptoms. Xx

Posting here 3 years later...

Thanks to the OP. Was beginning to think I'd gone bonkers.

I got a different loo roll - on offer from Aldi's. Been having problems.

My hayfever has been acting up and it's only today that I realised that I accidentally purchased a pack of Aldi's own brand of scented loo roll. Never again.

Apparently you can- some toilet paper contains bleach (which I never would have thought!)

No toilet roll contains bleach.

All white paper is bleached to get it white.
