Anyone had their concert tickets cancelled by the organiser?

We have bought tickets for a concert on viagogo and DH has read that some events are not allowing viagogo customers and are cancelling their tickets. How is this is fair! We paid good money for these tickets and don’t see why some venues think its ok to do this? Has anyone had this happen to them?

OP posts:
googleismyfriend · 22/02/2019 19:42

Out of curiosity what artist was it?

Redglitter · 22/02/2019 19:44

Id like to see all venues implementing either id on arrival or as artists like Ed Sheeran do, resales only via Twickets or through the venue itself.

TwinkleTits70 · 22/02/2019 19:57

Was it Lewis Capaldi tix???

We saw him supporting Bastille a few weeks ago and he was brilliant!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/02/2019 19:59

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - I don’t think anyone should object to individuals reselling tickets they can’t use for some reason, as you did - it’s the people who are buying tickets specifically so they can resell them at a vast profit, the people who are taking advantage of the real fans, who are the problem.

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/02/2019 20:50

Exactly SDTG.
I think it's a bit off to call out people who do use Viaggogo though.
I know you didn't.

I really wanted those tickets, not buying them in protest would have done what?
And who would even know?

owhatashambles · 22/02/2019 21:03

I'm with the OP on this one. If she is willing to pay the premium or whatever price is asked for and the venue has already got the money for the gig, what is the problem? Someone had a ticket at face value and couldn't or did not want to go. Whether that is because they want to - god forbid - make some money or because they got norovirus at the last minute is nobody's business.
The concert promoters are still paid, the OP gets to go the concert, the ticket reseller is paid.
I feel we are increasingly sliding towards a zero tolerance society where even the premise of a market economy is being questioned.

WhiteDust · 22/02/2019 21:10

We had no choice. The tickets sold out within minutes
Eh? You had a choice! If tickets are sold out I don't go. End of story. Not buying tickets of scum of the earth, thieving touts is my choice.

gkite0202 · 22/02/2019 21:10

Be careful OP, if it is Lewis Capaldi, he is finding a way to cancel all tickets purchased via viagogo Sad

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/02/2019 21:11

@ohwhatashambles - when the touts bulk buy tickets and mark the prices up so much, it means that genuine fans who can’t afford the premium lose out - that is my problem with it.

Selling tickets that you can’t use for some reason, at or near the face price, is very different - it isn’t exploiting the fans and ripping them off - that’s the difference.

isseywithcats · 22/02/2019 21:17

We havent had tickets cancelled yet but bought through eventim to see Ozzie Osbourne at Manchester, whole tour has been postponed because of Ozzie being ill, supposed to be redoing in September guess what we are on holiday then so i can see me sending the tickets back for a refund gutted , and OP the chances are you wont get asked about your tickets, Iron Maiden made a big thing on the tickets page saying only the named person on the ticket with ID blah blah , so i took my passport and no one even asked for it,

llangennith · 22/02/2019 21:18

OP Did you pay face value for the tickets?

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/02/2019 21:26

Scum of the earth, really?
Bit of an over reaction.

gkite0202 · 22/02/2019 21:31

@IHaveBrilloHair
I get the posters reaction, it's not an over reaction at all. There is a guy and his girlfriend, sitting In a million pound mansion paid for by scamming people on viagogo. He sold tickets well over face value, knowing they'd be cancelled. He has made thousands from doing it!

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/02/2019 21:34

It's not a scam though, you see the price and agree to pay it.

SellFridges · 22/02/2019 21:36

Just use Twickets.

Sometimes tickets don’t appear on there Until close to the date as unless you have the physical ticket or an e-ticket (which some gigs don’t allow) I don’t think you can list the ticket.

Hittapotamus · 22/02/2019 21:37

@IHaveBrilloHair re George Ezra. You literally have to have have your phone in your hand when the tickets get listed. I bought them after missing out on lots of them despite picking up my phone as the alert went off. I sold my others and it was less than 5 minutes from listing.

Flurgle · 22/02/2019 21:38

It is a scam. They add various charges at the end, once you are entering your card details. They often sell seats they don’t have - they use time counters and lie about availability- there’s loads of dishonest stuff they do.

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/02/2019 21:42

Hittapotamus
My friend got me one, I so love him!

Livedandlearned · 22/02/2019 21:59

It's a massive scam, they've been all over the news. They ripped off my ds and point blank refused a refund, they will never give refunds. We had to wait nearly a year to claim back £264 for a ticket worth £160.

VodkaKnockers · 22/02/2019 22:10

Always buy tickets through an authorised reseller.

I ended up with 2 sets of take that tickets and resold my spare set through see tickets as they were an authorised reseller

Procrastination4 · 22/02/2019 22:36

I wish all venues here started refusing tickets that aren’t sold through official sites. It’s ridiculous the prices some touts charge. As for people reselling -it should possible to resell back to original official site (at original price)and then those tickets could be resold at the original price. If venues stopped accepting tickets (credit card/id to be produced) it’d soon put a stop to ticket touts buying up swathes of tickets before fans get a chance to do so. I once had yo resell a pair of tickets (genuine reason) and the person that bought them couldn’t believe I was selling them at the marked price. I was just glad to get my money back! It was in the day of the concert that the other person collected them as they were traveling, so I suppose it was a bit of a leap of faith on their part.

Straitjacketfits · 22/02/2019 22:37

@honeymum78 there was a similar thread a few days ago. I don’t see the difference between viagogo and other selling platforms like eBay or Facebook except the seller doesn’t get paid if they use Viagogo and the tickets are fake. Website has also been - finally - tidied up and the charges etc are clearer much earlier. Friend is in the industry and says the venues are totally laughing behind the scenes. They allocate so many tickets to pals, sponsors, corporates and only a few are ever really available to the public. They then conveniently hide behind Viagogo, Stubhub etc who are just really easy to kick. The only thing that winds up the venues is that they’re annoyed they didn’t mark up the price in the first place (in fact many staff get tickets at face value and preferential access and sell them on the very sites they’re condemning). Funny old world.

Procrastination4 · 22/02/2019 22:37

Typos! Darn you, preview button for not working anymore!

Wakk · 22/02/2019 23:14

Didn't you see all the people who were turned away from Ed Shearin last year ?

They were mostly from there I think.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/02/2019 23:28

Can someone list official sites.
Buying tickets to see bands is a bit of a minefield as many venues don't sell tickets themselves. Who is legit and who isn't?
