Aibu to think 9pm is too late to be ringing someone's doorbell?

I was in bed, husband downstairs but I didn't hear him get it. I waited too long and the person left. Husband had called asleep on sofa.
But who rings a doorbell at 9pm?! I'm pregnant and tired argh. We live in a small village!

Up to 10pm is reasonable if you know the household

The evenings are tricky, though - earlier, and many people will be eating, or putting small children to bed, or other things that would make it awkward to answer the door.

But I do laugh at the MN thing of never ever being supposed to ring a door bell (what are they for, then??), or pop round to see someone without an appointment booked in advance Smile

if say you'd left your lights on in a car or something like that you wouldn't mind at all someone calling at 9 would you? collecting for charity's etc I wouldn't mind, but I'm more a night owl, 9 just isn't late for me but certainly I know my neighbour with two young kids would be outraged if anyone called that late- I did once with a parcel she hadn't picked up, worst thing was I deliberately left it till after 8.30 as I thought nothing worse than disturbing bath, bed stories etc. as it wasn't important I just rang once had she not answered then id have walked away to come back another time, maybe that what happened here.

It would ba a shame if it was someone knocking to say someone has bumped into your car or your roof is on fire. Shock
