I used to hate the concept of hot desking but it has actually been a godsend. Although I have a few favourite places to sit, I always look at the calendars of people who irritate me for a variety of reasons (chatter, loud typing, noisy eating) and plan where to sit accordingly (i.e away from where I know where they will sit, even on a different floor!) We WAH too a couple of days a week. I will sometimes arrange my WAH days on the days I know the irritants are in the office.

I always have my headphones on me for emergencies. There is an app called Noisz that has a variety of white noise which really does help drown out the worse offenders.

I have a colleague who'd go for a run at lunchtime and come back and put his towel and sweaty workout clothes on the office radiator. When it was pointed out to him that no one wants to smell his sweaty shorts and tights, he threw a massive strop and couldn't understand what the problem was. Honestly, why would anyone think that that was an appropriate thing to do in an open office?

Beatboxing, badly. There was someone who was quite good at it (and didn't do it much) and then another guy who tried to be like the first but there was so much mouth noises and it was so often that when I was pregnant and hormonal I snapped at him to stop and then flared at him when he dared do it again. I have no regrets, it did my head in.

Also, had loud typers, one who had a brand new MacBook with the keyboard that is actually really quite but she hit it so hard I took a video to show do because he didn't believe it could be that loud on one and another woman had really long nails that would clatter on the keys.

Come into the office sneezing over everyone and talk loudly about how you have been suffering all over the weekend. Not working at home (you can in your role), or actually staying at home is going to mean that multiple people catch your cold

Kitkat I wonder if you and I have the pleasure of working with the same hypochondriac, as otherwise that depressingly means there's more than one taking the absolute piss.
I'm lucky enough to work for a company which allows the option of buying and selling a few days of holiday allowance each year. Great as long as employees respect that right and don't abuse it....Our resident hypochondriac who was probably in the office less than she was "off sick" last year was last week proudly boasting about how much money she'd be claiming back as she hasn't used all her holiday allowance Angry

Oh and Rockmysocks that is EnvyWhat is wrong with some people?!

Read up on stoicism. You cannot control what your colleague does. You can learn to control your response to it. I am trying to do this now and it helps! Recommend 'Happy' by Derren Brown.
