Just that really. Mine was realising that I was about to go up another dress size and refusing to let that happen!

Looking better in shorts this summer. I'm not overweight, but could dow with losing some weight though. I want to wear jeans and not have a muffin top. I want to feel better about what I eat.

So I've joined WW under my own steam again. I know from the past that it works. It's satisfying counting points and still have some left over to have a treat.

When a friend of mine from university days, who had always been a lot bigger than me, dieted - lost loads of weight - and is now a fair bit slimmer than me.
I realised that I don't like feeling like the fat friend!

My reasons were difficulty putting socks on (shoes with ankle straps - not a chance!), breathlessness (though I'm also and ex smoker), going up yet another dress size and a recent shopping trip to a designer shopping centre where large in most shops was 12/14 at most. I like Jack Wills clothes and to shop there I will need to be a 12.

In 7 weeks I have lost a stone, completely changed the way I eat (not a diet but a lifestyle change) and started C25K.

I am hoping to lose 4 stone in total.

Three weeks before Christmas when I spent the whole afternoon trying to think up a plausible excuse to get me out of a work function. I didn't want to go because I felt embarrassed by my size. I knew I had to go really (it wasn't optional) and vowed to myself not to feel like that by the next one. Have lost 1st 2lbs since then, I still have about 2st to go but I feel so much better. Hopefully by the next command performance I'll feel fab 😁

Unfortunately for me, I have to take steroids fairly frequently, for an autoimmune condition. This always causes my weight to balloon - I usually put on around a stone. It goes on so quickly but takes forever to come off. I don't really have a pivotal moment - as soon as I've finished the steroids (which can be anywhere from 3 months to more than a year), I start trying to get rid of the weight again. Having done this lots of times, I've discovered that the quickest and most effective way of doing this for me is to cut out all carbs and sugar. I can usually get rid of the weight within a month doing this. I eat a lot of protein and fats so that I don't get hungry. My only bugbear with this method is that I have to stop running or spinning because the lack of carbs means I have no energy. I can still manage other exercise though - like body combat or yoga.

I saw a video of myself dancing at a weddingBlush...in the three weeks since then I'm 12lbs down Halo

Coulddowithanap · 06/03/2019 09:59

Mine was that I didn't want to buy the next size up clothes.. I'm not fat but wearing jeans that muffin top looked awful. (I did give in a buy a cheap pair of jeans in next size up but promised myself I wasn't going to get any more!)

I think I've just woken up to the fact that writing I want to be 8.5st as a New Years resolution each year doesn't mean it's going to happen! On NYD I weighed 12 stone, exactly the same as the previous NYD. In 6 weeks my husband and I head off to spend the summer abroad and there is no way I want to be feeling fat in all the photos! So that is my motivation now. So far I'm down 7lbs but I really want to be a healthy BMI so need to lose another stone. I know if I can get to 10st7 I will feel a lot better about myself. So I'm going to go upstairs, put my gym stuff on and then go buy some vegetables!!

Knee pain whenever I sat down so driving was a nightmare. Feeling embarrassed buying clothes in that size, always wanting to hide the coat hanger so nobody saw. Never wanting photos taken of me because I was humiliated by how fat I looked.

SisterFarAway · 06/03/2019 10:57

I had two "straws", the first didn't really trigger it, though.

First: I was on the tube and had my down coat on, there were no seats so I stood. A woman took one look at me and offered me a seat, thinking I was pregnant. I took the seat, but thought the puffy coat was to blame

Second: About three months later I went away for a combined work/leisure trip, for which I had to send a suitcase ahead. I had to weigh it, so weighed myself first with, then without the case.
With the case I was roughly the same weight as I was at my fattest in my late teens, so there was no room for denial anymore, I needed to lose weight.

I didn't start until a few months later and have lost 17kg and 8% body fat since, with the aim of losing about 7-10kg more.

@Beautifullycalm

Oh, I think I love you Blush I'm 52 and that's the first time I've ever been called that; it's just made my week. Thank you so much Smile

Mine was wanting to be fitter and healthier, wear nicer clothes, and more weather-appropriate clothes in the heat of summer rather than living in jeans and baggy tops. Summer 2017, I didn't have any clothes appropriate for hot weather (and wasn't going to buy shorts in a huge size), so I went to the beer garden in a strappy top and cropped workout leggings. Caught sight of myself in the mirror at the pub and I looked horrific, but it was the only outfit that would keep me cool!

Enough was enough and I changed my eating habits and exercised more. Lost 2.5 stone between last May and December. I feel so so so much better. Nicer clothes, don't get out of breath so easily. My eating habits have started to slip back though so I need to reign them in again as I do not want to go back to how I was! I want to lose another 1.5 stone before my birthday this year (October).

Lamby80 · 07/03/2019 16:55

I have just had it. I asked my husband to take a photo of me to renew my passport, and it was awful! Bloated, greying hair, awful skin. I think I need a complete overhaul! Starting tomorrow. We go away early June so would like to lose a couple of stone. Wish me luck. X

My personal trainer made me wear a weights jacket (and crawl around doing undignified exercise stuff - training feels like Crufts sometimes!).

It weighed a bloody ton. We worked out between us that I have lost 3x as much as the jacket. I can't believe I was carrying that around all the time!
