DP family go only to restaurant to socialise which is fine,

I can’t eat out due to achalasia, being in tolerate to oil/fat!

So DP expects me to sit their like a clown with his family, eating nothing. Just drinking!!!

For me I feel uncomfortable and just in unsupported!

AIBU to not go?
DP gets upset saying he wants me to be more supportive and come anyway!

Why is McDonald's, Burger King and KFC ok, aren't they all quite fatty? And often you have to get a key or code for the toilets.

Bluntness100 · 19/02/2019 17:32

So the achalasia is not the issue, there are plain foods you can eat, but you have another medical condition that means you poop anything you eat out within 15 mins?

hula008 · 19/02/2019 17:32

Sorry if I'm being insensitive but are you sure you have achalasia? And what exactly do you understand it to be?

5foot5 · 19/02/2019 17:34

TBH I am very surprised that you find the toilets in a "proper restaurant" much busier than in one of the fast food sort of places you name.

I actually would have thought a "proper restaurant" likely to be more accomodating

Gall bladder surgery is quite common and the post surgery effects is not anything you describe.

YABU for self diagnosing yourself and I suggest you see your gp for your symptoms.

AlwaysCheddar · 19/02/2019 17:40

Are you saying McDonald’s and Pizza Hut are ok but a decent restaurant isn’t ......??!!

Calic0 · 19/02/2019 17:41

Hi OP - have had similar digestive issues since gallbladder surgery, currently under investigation. In the meantime, most GP and hospital consultant have advised that there is no issue in taking loperamide (available on prescription or OTC) on a daily basis to ease the symptoms.

I know it’s not what you were asking about but never being able to go out - regardless of whether or not it’s with you ILs - it’s no way to live!

Calic0 · 19/02/2019 17:42

Sorry, BOTH not most...

Housingcraze · 19/02/2019 17:56

Achalasia I been told causing acid reflux
Diarrhoea clueless
Gallbladder removal no fat!

Forget achalasia- I’m on for anxiety
Busrospin 3 times a day and not much better!
Sensory overload Hun. I get that when I'm ill. I need somewhere quieter with low light! DP never takes my needs into consideration

OP posts:
Housingcraze · 19/02/2019 17:57

I don’t eat at any fast food restaurant I would be happy to sit there

OP posts:
Sirzy · 19/02/2019 17:58

If sensory overload is the issue I really don’t get how Pizza Hut type places could possibly be better!

From your posts on here could it be your partner could just simply be confused about what the issue actually is?

burritofan · 19/02/2019 17:58

Tell us more about these quiet, low-lit McDonald's...

trinity0097 · 19/02/2019 18:00

I don’t have a gallbladder and eat a low carb high fat diet, with zero side effects, in fact I only get an uncomfortable feeling when I eat lots of carbs,

Perhaps you should try cutting your carbs and upping your fats!

anitagreen · 19/02/2019 18:02

I think you may have the diagnosis wrong I'm really sorry to say that just doesn't seem right, my dm had her gall bladder out and she still scoffs kebabs and god knows what else and doesn't come straight out. Are you sure it's not anxiety causing ibs?

Housingcraze · 19/02/2019 18:04

I’ve had POEM - Helier monotony
I go to UCL who specialises in it

OP posts:
Housingcraze · 19/02/2019 18:05

@trinity0097 it’s fat and oil seems to be main issue!

Anxiety is most likely tbh!

OP posts:
MereDintofPandiculation · 19/02/2019 18:05

Gallbladder removal no fat!
That seems unlucky. The gallbladder stores bile (which helps to digest fat) ready to release it when your stomach is full of food. If you have it removed, the bile is still produced, but trickles through steadily instead of being stored up. So most people find it's difficult to digest large amounts of fat, but small amounts are still fine. So you're very unlucky not to be able to digest any.

IvanaPee · 19/02/2019 18:06

Gallbladder removal means you can’t have fat??

My mum had hers removed not three months ago and wasn’t told that...

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 19/02/2019 18:06

Just don't go. If his family know you can't eat, I don't understand why they would expect you to. If they want to see you out socially, can you all go out for coffee instead of a meal?

Housingcraze · 19/02/2019 18:07

What is plain I can ask for in restaurant please?

Plain rice - chicken asked for Indian and chicken tasted of oil?

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 19/02/2019 18:17

Op. Your posts are rather confusing to understand the issue.

So far we have anxiety, achalasia, gall bladder removal, sensory issues, bowel issues, and acid reflux

Have you spoken to a doctor? Are you self diagnosing some of these ?

IWantChocolates · 19/02/2019 18:18

Salad?

newmun · 19/02/2019 18:26

Very confusing. State plain rice plain chicken no oil! Its your anxiety thats the issue and needs to be sorted. Thats no way to live.

HilaryBriss · 19/02/2019 18:37

I had some sympathy until i reached the part where you would be happier in a fast food joint. They are well known for being brightly lit and busy which would surely make any anxiety worse!

Leeds2 · 19/02/2019 18:46

What do you eat at home?

I would probably order a salad, without dressing. Or a plain steak, and veg.

If DH meets up with his family frequently, say every week, I don't think YWBU to not go to every meal. If the meals are, say every six months, I would probably make every effort to go.

My first step though would be to try and get treatment for your anxiety, if it is that that is stopping you from eating in a restaurant.
