To ask if triple bunk beds are the pain in the arse I imagine them to be?

Thinking if purchasing some for my dd and step children to create more space in the bedroom.

But I just imagine them to be a pain. How do you change the sheets on the very top bunk? Don't imagine the middle one would be easy either.

And making the beds? The only thing I like the dcs to do is make their beds on a daily basis. Im a bit ocd and can't cope with un-made beds 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyone bought them for their dcs? Yay or nay?

@ASauvignonADay yes they are memory foam so yes can actually see it wouldn't be as hard as I'm imagining!

@thinking54 if so honestly it's pretty easy!! You climb the ladder, lean and sort. Or might be easier to whip them off the bed if you've got floor space

RandomMess · 19/02/2019 18:08

Off set bunks are really good even if you have low ceilings. I would look at the Ikea hacks blogs a bet someone has made a set cheaply that way.

Namechange8471 · 19/02/2019 18:13

Could two kids share a bed?
The one I've posted has a double on the bottom.

We have bunks. Eldest (10yrs) chnages sheets for me

Lifeofa · 19/02/2019 18:15

Do you have high ceilings? We got bunk beds and they were very time limited due to children suddenly growing the manoeuvring required to get in bed was something else and they hated not being able to sit up to read.

Monday55 · 19/02/2019 18:15

If they're old enough to change their bed sheets & duvet cover then go for it... I can't picture the agony of changing the middle bunk.

TrickyKid · 19/02/2019 18:16

Bunkbed and truckle would be easier.

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 19/02/2019 18:18

Had one when I had three live-in stepkids as well as my own two.

It was like an extra tall regular bunk but a third one of an in between height came out at a right angle

IShitGlitter · 19/02/2019 18:20

the tripe bunks look really good.

MargotLovedTom1 · 19/02/2019 18:20

I can't imagine how claustrophobic a double decker style triple bunk would be. Not being able to sit up in bed would feel like sleeping in a coffin 😱 . Really like the offset one for £599.

SciFiScream · 19/02/2019 18:22

Step ladders help with the changing of bed linen. If you really can't face it - what about sleeping bags? If your child uses a sleeping bag too for the nights that step children are there it wouldn't seem like an odd thing, it would seem like a fun thing! They could have lovely personalised pillow cases and blankets to go over the functional sleeping bag.

greenelephantscarf · 19/02/2019 18:23

only if you are the one changing the sheets Wink

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/02/2019 19:08

If you do decide to go for that 3 tier offset design the bottom bunk will be perfect for a little tornado. You can make it into a little den.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/02/2019 19:11

Margot
I agree about the 3 tier one on top of the other design is awful and coffin like. The Radfords have them I think. At least I saw a very large family on tv with them.

bellajay · 19/02/2019 19:24

I grew up with a triple bunk as shared a room with my two sisters and we loved them. Each bunk felt like our own private space and it was something none of our friends had. I am now wondering whether my mum hated changing the sheets but I don’t remember it being an issue! I think we used to sometimes do our own as part of our chores.

Viggooooh · 19/02/2019 19:26

We’ve got a normal bunk with a pull out underneath. It’s easy to make top and middle bunk. Bottom pull out I leave sheet on. Pillow and duvet (with covers on) are kept in a cupboard and thrown on when needed (usually in the middle of the night when dc wake up and i end up in there). Best thing we bought.

Gulsink · 19/02/2019 19:26

What about a bunk bed and a loft bed/high sleeper combination? The top bunk and loft bed would be at the same height and you'd have the space under the loft bed free without the temporaryness of a trundle under a bunkbed.

User478 · 19/02/2019 19:40

Get thick mattress toppers only put the sheet over the topper 2-3cm . You can take them off and change the sheet at ground level and put the whole thing back up. Put a mattress protector & sheet on the mattress underneath too, then if you have any sickness etc you can whip off the topper and you're good to go.

DeRigueurMortis · 19/02/2019 20:56

The triple one looks really good.

I like the sense of space yet privacy it offers each child without being claustrophobic, plus the storage in the steps and shelves for toys would also free up a lot of floor space and make keeping tidy easier (you could even designate steps/shelves for each child to make everyone feel they have their own private spaces to store favourite toys/books).

That said we have beds with an under bed (truckle bed). They are on casters and can be wheeled out/in with all the bedding in situ by the kids themselves. We use them for the kids sleepovers and it's really easy.

So another option might be bunk beds with a truckle but just made sure it's easy slide with enough space to be put back with the bedding on.

clairedelalune · 19/02/2019 22:17

Another idea.... could you get a carpenter to do a built in triple bunk with shelves inside so more cosy chalet like?

amilosingitor · 20/02/2019 07:21

@Fiveredbricks it's not as simple as that is it? You can't pull the mattresses over the sides and you have to go up the top of the ladder (which is very thin with sides that will enclose you) in a very small space between bed and ceiling. Jeez

amilosingitor · 20/02/2019 07:23

@thinking54 we have the one mummy dragon suggested!! It's great but the instructions are shit I will warn you!! DP hasn't put the main ladder on yet because it makes no sense so as soon as that's done I'll be up there attempting to make it! We have the same thoughts as you - we both have children from previous partners and it's supposed to be all of their homes so a pull out wasn't an option for us either

amilosingitor · 20/02/2019 07:25

I must admit I'd have preferred the off set ones but space wise this was the best option for the shape of the room! The kids are super excited about it and I've got them all a little shelf each for their drinks and bits and bobs and it will be each of their own little dens type thing!
