To ask if it’s ok to wear sunglasses in winter?

I’m sat outside school. It’s a sunny day, I look dreadful after another sleepless night m, thanks to my baby dc Grin

So is it acceptable to wear sunglasses in winter (to hide the bags under my eyes)?

I wear mine all year round, if it is sunny they are on. I don't get how DP never wears sunglasses ever, and here is me, the merest hint and they are on. I always have a pair in my bag!

Skirmisher · 18/02/2019 15:25

Er, sunglasses are designed to to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun. The shines in winter too as far as I'm aware.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/02/2019 15:27

What a bizarre question. Of course you can wear sunglasses in the winter.

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 18/02/2019 15:28

I opened this just to see if there were any responses besides “if you need them, yes of course” 🤷🏼‍♀️ Why wouldn’t you if it’s sunny and you’re otherwise going to end up squinting?!

bagpiss · 18/02/2019 15:28

Indeed it is, i also carry some in my bag at all times and keep a spare in my car, I especially hate being dazzled by low winter sun.

tararabumdeay · 18/02/2019 15:31

My mum and my auntie both look years younger than they are because they swear they don't squint.

caughtinanet · 18/02/2019 15:34

How did you go with trivial decision making before the internet? Why is this something that you would even need to think about?

weleasewoderick22 · 18/02/2019 16:04

Sunglasses are for the sun, not the seasons. I wear them all year round.

WarpedGalaxy · 18/02/2019 16:15

This weird objection to people wearing sunglasses because it's 'pose-y' or somesuch even when it's sunny is very peculiar to me. I live in California so no problem, in fact no problem anywhere I go but the UK. Ooh look at you with your sunglasses. Yes I've got sunglasses on because it's glaring sunshine outside or, sometimes, glaring fluorescents indoors and? Why is that a problem for anyone?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 18/02/2019 16:22

My optician told me I should always wear them when it's sunny, not just in summer. As should all blue-eyed folk.

LilaJude · 18/02/2019 16:34

Why would you even need to ask this

bluetongue · 19/02/2019 09:10

I even wore mine in an airport a couple of weeks ago. I’m sure I looked strange but I had a shocking migraine so not much choice.

fussychica · 19/02/2019 09:21

If its sunny I wear them whatever the season. It's a rare chance to look youngerGrin

RebootYourEngine · 19/02/2019 09:28

I need to wear sunglasses all of the time. My eyes are so sensitive to light.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 19/02/2019 09:28

You can see and you look glamorous-win win!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 19/02/2019 09:29

Heavens above - if I didn’t wear sunnies in winter I’d be a risk to myself and others whenever I left the house

RustyBear · 19/02/2019 09:35

My optician told me I should wear them as they help protect against cataracts. I have varifocals with photochromic lenses that darken in sunlight.

origamiunicorn · 19/02/2019 09:40

Yes of course, the sun is lower in the Winter and I struggle more with the glare than in the Summer.

PBo83 · 19/02/2019 09:41

Sunglasses are sometime needed more in winter because of a low sun and glare off wet roads, snow etc.

I've had comments before about wearing sunglasses "but it's minus 3"...Yeah, but it's sunny!

EstrellaDamn · 19/02/2019 09:46

Of course it is, they're called sunglasses, not summer glasses!

I wear mine all the time, absolutely hate screwing my eyes up in the sun. DH thinks I'm a poser, I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks!

Damntheman · 19/02/2019 09:49

Of course you can! I wear mine year round as sun on snow is agonising!

My optician recommends to me that I wear my prescription ones whenever the light is making me even slightly squint. They lessen my (admittedly high, thanks dad) chances of macular degeneration down the line.

seenna · 19/02/2019 11:33

At risk of sounding like a complete moron, can someone please explain "low winter sun"- what exactly is meant by "low" (does this relater to the Earth's tilt?). Google has made me none the wiser. May be overthinking this one.

theemmadilemma · 19/02/2019 11:37

www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/kids/games-quizzes/sun/san3.html

And yes it's ok. Low sun and cold breeze makes my eyes water like hell the older I get.

theemmadilemma · 19/02/2019 11:38

@seenna

leahtalbot96 · 19/02/2019 12:03

Why not?

I wear a hat in winter.
