When i first started reading MN, it took me a while to get used to terminology, parlance and the general feel of the forum. Cocklodger was something which took me a while to understand and ive just seen the term used again in a recent thread i.e .."is he a cock lodger?". It got me thinking, surely there must also be beaver lodgers but his being a predominantly female forum,we perhaps dont hear too much of them? Maybe some residents are beaver lodgers and know it or perhaps dont immediately recognise themselves as such? Are you a beaver lodger?

Gold diggers do exist, but unless you're an aging millionaire the chances of knowing one is much smaller than knowing a cocklodger Wink

Few women with children do virtually nothing for them. Society is quick to call them out for neglect whereas so many posters refer to a "good dad" because he merely acknowledges his offspring and changed a couple of nappies when asked.

Women are disadvantaged in employment if they are seeking work to fit around childcare and if they have breaks in experience from childraising. It's less than 40 years since Charles and Diana's marriage was created as a social contract of status and it was the end of an era, but for hundreds of years marriage of people of good repute was a financial contract with any love being a bonus. We have moved on, but cultures are slow to reject such ideas completely and we aren't on an equal playing field for men and women to contribute equally financially and domesticly. Many men still place value on being the breadwinner. Some use it to facilitate financial and emotional abuse.

I like Fanny Freeloader.

It doesn't fit with stereotypes though.

blackteasplease · 18/02/2019 17:35

Fanny freeloader is better I agree! I was going to suggest fanny lodger but yours is better. Beaver is a crap word for it imo.

Of course there is beaver lodgers bloody stupid name mind you, anyway I know women who married guys with good jobs and plenty money and the women put up with all sorts of shit so they can have a comfortable lifestyle and an easy life

Is that what you meant op?

Funnily enough I've never known a man to be like this?

ENormaSnob · 18/02/2019 17:41

I know 1.

My DH’s ex wife. It’s how we met (not OW). He was looking for help with his step kids. He worked full time and the kids were on report for missing school.

I was taking my friends kids to school as a favour and her kids were friends with the older step kid. Was a total cluster fuck. Our first conversation was basically a fight because he was trying to make tea at 8 o’clock and i was saying it was too late. He left, continued to pay the bills and she disappeared into the ether.

I’ll name change after this

My cousins exwife was like this. She did nothing round the house and would lounge on the settee with a "headache" when he came home from a demanding and dangerous job. She wouldn't look after their daughter, wouldn't cook dinner, didn't cleab etc. He finally had enough and left her and she would refuse to let him see their daughter, cause arguments over nothing (been seen talking to someone she didn't want him to, told his mum what she'd been doing and it would get back to her etc) and after one final argument with her he sadly committed suicide.

Now to listen to her she's the poor widow who never put a foot wrong and is emotionally damaging the child in many ways, using her as a weapon against his family if they don't dance to her tune.

Hateful hateful woman.
