Please see pic below. been i hospital with Ds for 10 days now got discharged late last night came home bathed and put ds to sleep didnt notice anything. this morning changed his clothes etc again nothing about 11am ds wet his top so went to change it notice the pic below. to me initially it looked like a burn but impossible as ds literally hasnt been out of the bed all day he still not 100% no heaters in room apart from central heating which was turned of about 10am this morninv but again not hot enough to scald him. took him walk in centre they said its a burn at least 2 days old which is now very infected. when i said it cant be burn i was told it is a burn definitely and if i didnt know when it occured could anyone have physically burnt him? aibu for the doctor to have suggested this and for those of u wondering his dad is working away atm and he has had no outside contact since we come back from hospital.

treble:- there was never a moment ds was alone i was with him day and night his dad was with us until the last day he had important work meeting out of city.

Ds has behavioural issues he doesnt deal well with being in hospital hates being touched when we are i. hospital he doesnt even lie in his cot. its between me and his dad all day all night.

cant remember who asked if ds could tell me how it got bruise/burn but he doesnt talk at all so no help there.

im waiting for a call back from the ward we are regulars there so they know me and ds well.

That looks very sore. I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

pinkgloves · 17/02/2019 14:58

Oh op you poor thing. That looks horrid. No advice but hope you get to the bottom of it soon!

bumblingbovine49 · 17/02/2019 15:06

Is it itchy. It definitely looks infected. I have a rash in exactly the same place weirdly that looked like that when it was infected. It is a bit better now but still quite itchy. Mine is not a burn. It is a rash, though exactly what sort is not yet clear (8 months on!). The NHS is really bad with rashes

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 17/02/2019 15:20

The antibiotics won’t help if he was on them at the time the infection developed! The bacteria are clearly resistant to that antibiotic. It needs swabbing/ a different antibiotic.

JaffacakesAreCakesNotBiscuits · 17/02/2019 15:24

Reaction from the wrist band possibly?

pinkgloves · 17/02/2019 15:28

Dh saw the picture and reminding me of when ds got cellulitis a few years ago. He'd got the tiniest scratch on his ankle and it turned in to something like that. Definitely not a burn so this may not be either.

Thadeus · 17/02/2019 15:36

I may be wrong but if it’s hot to touch as you say then I believe it’s infected and needs to be seen ASAP.

Mar19901 · 17/02/2019 15:38

still waiting for call back not really wanting to do another 8 hour wait at a&e😨

sorry i should have been clearer the Dr at walk in prescribed fusidic acid told me to apply 3 times aday along with his long term antibiotic. i too thought if he developed an infection whilst on antibiotic than surely he wouldnt be covered. but in all honesty walk in centre doc gave me no confidence made me feel like a bad mother for not knowing when my child got a 'burn'

Poor thing that looks really nasty. I think it looks like cellulitis too, I hope 111 can get your son seen quickly.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/02/2019 16:37

But if he was burned 2 days ago, then the burn would already have been visible when you bathed him last night and changed his clothes this am. It wouldn't have had an infected bit round it, but would have still been the burn itself. Weird.

katykins85 · 17/02/2019 16:48

How odd! Definitely get an appointment and have it looked at again

LittleMe03 · 17/02/2019 16:58

Poor boy! I think you should most definitely you get a second option OP x

TheHobbitMum · 17/02/2019 17:03

Ouch! Poor baby, that looks painful, it looks like it's cellulitis to me also. Hopefully you'll be seen to soon (ward should want to see him again)

peachgreen · 17/02/2019 18:03

I agree with @FiveRedBricks, if I didn't know where that had come from I'd probably be calling the police too. I'd be beside myself if it was my daughter.

Mar19901 · 17/02/2019 18:47

Thank you all so much.

spoke to the senior nurse on ward she advised i bring him into a&e that she would let them know im coming and they will arrange for me to be seen for in the referral unit. been waiting in a&e for 2 hours now so hopefully should be seen too.

i would be calling police if i had any doubt i had left ds alone for someone to have hurt him but i know 110% he has not left mine or his dads side during our hospital stay and at home. i cannot explain just how clingy he is when we come to hospital its same now not getting of my lap but not wanting me to sit or stand he just hates it😥

Just saw in an previous post that your son self-harms sometimes - could be have done this to himself without you noticing and it's then become infected?

peachgreen · 17/02/2019 18:55

Crossposted - hope you get seen soon Thanks

MissingSilence · 17/02/2019 19:04

Was he given anything IV through that hand / arm? Just another idea, it looks really nasty your poor DS.

Lymphy · 17/02/2019 19:07

Oh poor thing, agree with other pp’s that it looks like cellulitis, glad they are getting you straight in and sorted

Mar19901 · 17/02/2019 19:42

Just seen a doctor who seems to think it is NOT a burn but thinks it might be cellulitis like many of you suggested. He thinks it could be in relation to the IV he had in during admission. he is planning to admit to hospital for some.iv antibiotics given his complex medical history and taking a swab.

thank you all for commenting

pinkgloves · 17/02/2019 19:55

Glad it's getting sorted op. Thanks

MsChanandlerBoing · 17/02/2019 20:03

If he had a cannula in that hand it could be because of irritation/superficial skin break due to the tourniquet and developed cellulitis? Glad it’s getting sorted out! 😊

pinkgloves · 17/02/2019 20:11

It comes to something when strangers on an Internet forum make a better diagnosis from a picture than an actual doctor ffs!
