When my son vomited on the carpet, I read online that you could sprinkle baking powder on and then easily suck it up the Hoover... welll that was a HUGE mistake!!! My Hoover was only a week old at the time and the vomit got stuck all up Hetty's tube.... now a few years on i still get the distinct stench of vomit whenever I Hoover my house... I probably should get a new one!

The dog's tail! Blush

She was very wary of the hoover for the rest of her life, poor girl.

I too have hoovered baby sick up with my Henry....I put vanilla shake and vac inside it so it smells nice when I'm hoovering now instead of stale sick

@beansontoastfortea it wasn't just any old spider - it was the Godzilla of spiders!

RevolvingBananaHaiku · 16/02/2019 22:46

We had a gecko years ago that we used to feed live crickets to. The cat knocked the cricket tub off the table (chasing them through the lid) and they all escaped. Most made a true bid for freedom so we hoovered up the leftovers hiding behind the sofa, etc, tracing them by the noise they made.

They were still chirping inside the hoover days later. One would start and then they'd all go off!!

A diamond earring that I never rescued 😩

A 5p piece that was apparently sucked up with such force it got lodged in the motor (proper embedded) and killed the hoover dead in a puff of smoke.

Shitgovernmentshitparents · 17/02/2019 01:16

I have also killed a hoover with building dust. That stuff seemed to set like cement once it was hoovered up.

I once dropped a packet of spaghetti on the floor and decided it was a great idea to crush it all with my feet then hoover it up. I imagined this would be quicker and easier than picking up eleventy-million bits of spaghetti that had scattered across the kitchen floor.

Spoiler- it was not quicker. And Henry didn't really like it.

All Henrys seem to develop a horrible smell after a while though, so it may not be the vomit causing the smell.

Half a wax crayon! A bit obviously got stuck and then melted in the small pipe/u-bend bit at the bottom of my dyson. Every time I vacuumed it would block up and I couldn’t understand why - the wax was stuck in grooves etc and would melt and make the pipe sticky whenever the vacuum warmed up. Took AGES to completely clear it!

The other thing that made an unholy mess of the canister and pipe/nozzle was a very ripe blueberry!

Um yeah.

Well I'd bought Vanish carpet cleaning mousse. Decided not to use that and used soda crystals instead (??). Excellent work until the lid came off the drum...this was months ago and I still find white powder all over the floor.

I'm sure people secretly wonder if I have a little problem...

agentdaisy · 17/02/2019 15:20

Ds once managed to split his nappy and the crystals from inside went everywhere. Dh in his infinite wisdom used the hoover to clear it up as it would be quicker than the dustpan and brush. The crystals got stuck all along the tube and in the cannister and ruined the hoover.
