About bath towels

Just gone to shower and discovered my bath towel is missing. It’s in DH’s gym bag. He has no concept of a towel being someone’s and just uses any he finds that’s dry. I’ve just discovered he currently has 4(!!) towels on the go. It drives me bonkers. I like to have my own towel and when it’s dirty I put it in the wash and get a clean one. Surely this is normal?!? I hate the thought of someone else using “my” towel. I don’t want to dry my face on something that’s been on someone else’s arse (my own arse is fine). AIBU? DH doesn’t see the problem.

Oh, and used for about a week before washing. Kitchen hand towel washed every time a load goes on - so maybe every other day.

ChocOrCheese · 16/02/2019 17:49

YANBU. I get that couples "share" quite a lot of physical stuff - but drying my fanny with a towel impregnated with someone else's foot fungus??? No way.

Hippychickster · 16/02/2019 17:52

We all have our own towels. No one would dare use mine.

But we also all have our own nail clippers and tweezers. The thought of someone using mine 🤢.

Oysterbabe · 16/02/2019 19:20

We have our own towels here. DH and mine have their own pegs in en suite and the kids have their own pegs in the main bathroom.

Averysmallcasserole · 16/02/2019 19:20

Off to buy new towels purely on the athletes foot scenario

Vulpine · 16/02/2019 19:25

I've never got any foot fungal infections on my fanny. But then again I am very robust and healthy and rarely get ill. But apparently I am gross for sharing towels and not caring. All those school kids protesting about climate change maybe need to look at their parents wasteful habits.

itsbritneybiatches · 16/02/2019 19:28

@Hippychickster

I have the only tweezers in the house. And nail clippers. Despite buying the men in the house their own grooming sets every Christmas.

I have to hide mine in different places as mine always go missing and never reappear!

Hippychickster · 16/02/2019 19:45

@Itsbritneybiatches

Some things should never be shared. We had a conversation at work once about if you were away on holiday and your friend had forgotten her knickers, would you lend them yours. I was the only one who said absolutely not, or yes, but I never want them back!!

itsbritneybiatches · 16/02/2019 19:48

Same. I wouldn't want the knickers back.

I just wonder where all the tweezers are.
Tweezers and iPhone leads are like unicorn shit in this house.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2019 19:51

We all have our own towels. Never use each other's. Hang in the airing cupboard after use.

We wash them when we feel they need it.

Oysterbabe · 16/02/2019 19:52

All those school kids protesting about climate change maybe need to look at their parents wasteful habits.

There's nothing wasteful about it. They still only get washed when dirty and that takes a lot longer with one user.

Sleepthiefsmum18 · 16/02/2019 21:47

Glad I’m not the only one grossed out by sharing.

I can’t believe some people wash a towel after one use though Shock why make extra laundry for yourself?! Mine get a good week or two of use (maybe more than that now I have a baby and a toddler and never a bloody minute to have a shower)

YANBU. We have our own towels and a hand towel. I have a separate face drying flannel because I know my DCs will dry their hands on my bath towel if they drop the hand towel on the floor and kick it into oblivion can't find the hand towel.

TortoiseLettuce · 16/02/2019 22:04

How do you know whose towel is whose? Unless you spoil the look of your interior by having towels in different colours for everyone?

Mum2jenny · 16/02/2019 22:05

We have separate towels but they are not washed after a single use.

SpringForEver · 16/02/2019 22:11

We have our own sets of towels, co-ordinated with the bathrooms but different so that we know which are which.

There are also towels for the gym and towels for feet if something fungal appears after the gym.

We also have out own bathmats due to one of us getting grotty fungal feet from the gym.

Hand towels for the downstairs WC are also different.

I couldn't use a pre-used bath towel, would rather drip dry.

prettybird · 16/02/2019 22:13

Tortoise - you agree (and stick to) positions. Dh's is on the left hand side of the towel rail over the radiator. Mine is in the right hand side. Ds' towel goes on its own separate rail.

PhilomenaButterfly · 16/02/2019 22:14

We share a towel, and wash it when it's dirty.

anniehm · 16/02/2019 22:14

We have four towels but are used by anyone however for gym use you take a not matching older one!

WineAndTiramisu · 16/02/2019 22:15

We have different coloured towels, I'd find it icky to use someone else's as well!

Maelstrop · 16/02/2019 22:17

I have a ladder radiator in the bathroom. DH uses one rail, I use another, so even if we are both using the colour co-ordinated lifestyle towels, we don’t interchange. I also have a set I use, as does the DH.

finallyfound · 16/02/2019 22:17

Yes tortoise

We have a ladder towel rail thingy DH's goes on the top rung, then mine, then DC1 then DC2. Biggest to smallest Grin

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 16/02/2019 22:18

Ahhh I feel really odd about using someone else's towel! Like using their toothbrush or taking a bite out their sandwich when theit head's turned! We all have our own colour even the kids. But we are manky and disgusting and only wash them when we remember or when they start to smell a bit!

TortoiseLettuce · 16/02/2019 22:20

Even if I put out one towel per person, someone will go to the bedroom wearing their towel and dump it there, then next time they’ll use one of the towels remaining in the bathroom because they can’t be arsed to hunt for theirs.

Saltandsauce · 16/02/2019 22:21

I wash towels after every use, I’m gobsmacked that you use the same towel for weeks at a time 😱

I’ve always thought everyone did? I will definitely continue to do so after the athletes foot story tho 🤢
