About bath towels

Just gone to shower and discovered my bath towel is missing. It’s in DH’s gym bag. He has no concept of a towel being someone’s and just uses any he finds that’s dry. I’ve just discovered he currently has 4(!!) towels on the go. It drives me bonkers. I like to have my own towel and when it’s dirty I put it in the wash and get a clean one. Surely this is normal?!? I hate the thought of someone else using “my” towel. I don’t want to dry my face on something that’s been on someone else’s arse (my own arse is fine). AIBU? DH doesn’t see the problem.

My DH also uses MY towel and it drives me nuts. Tried buying different styles etc but not. We have bath sheets as I like to wrap up in them but he even takes these huge towels to the gym 🙄 I’ve even been known to find my pink holiday beach towel in his gym bag. He clearly just grabs the first one that’s dry! 😂

Eliza - the fungus that causes athletes foot likes warm, moist places. So it survives on moist towels on/near radiators, but not on dry carpet/flooring. Especially if you dry your feet (with the towel Wink) properly.

Since I've taken this precaution, I've been fine! Smile It's not so much on his feet now (as I did buy him powder, which he used intermittently) but in his toe nails, which requires commitment and patience to treat (with regular special nail treatment would takes the life cycle of the toe nail to cure, ie over 6 months Shock), neither of which he has Confused

Oh god! Jock crotch!!! I’m horrified.

DH has a disgusting toenail actually. Maybe sharing that story with him will highlight the need for us to have our own towels!

Hope it helps! Grin

We also follow the "position of the towels" approach: his is on the left (closest to the bath) and mine is on the right.

BlankTimes · 16/02/2019 16:37

If yours were fuchsia pink flowery embroidered bath towels with lots of lace and ribbon trim, maybe he'd think twice about stuffing them in his gym bag.

This is only a solution if you actually like the above-described bath towels though.

itsbritneybiatches · 16/02/2019 16:51

House of four. We share towels, except my DD she has her own animal towels with hoods on.

They get washed every other day.

I have my own for the gym because I swiped it and it's the biggest Grin

Confusedbeetle · 16/02/2019 16:56

We are 6. I would have to have 6 towels hanging in the bathroom. I wouldnt want a damp towel in my bedroom. Just wash them very frequently

labazsisgoingmad · 16/02/2019 17:01

me and partner just have whatever falls out the airing cupboard no individual towels for us

toomuchtoolittle · 16/02/2019 17:05

Towels are like gold dust in our house. If you can find one you take it!!

There's about 15 towels in this house and I can wash them today and by tomorrow theres none to be seen 🤷🏻‍♀️
I give up. I'm often found using my dd's moana hooded towel 🙈

Jellylegss · 16/02/2019 17:08

We have “his” and “hers” towels.. means he can’t claim he didn’t know which ones which Grin. You can get towels embroidered if your picky on which towels you like the feel of.

Used to think they were kind of tacky.. after hearing the jock itch they’re definitely worth it Envy

WoollyMummoth · 16/02/2019 17:08

I am amazed at the many colour coded bathroom towel situation of pps. I do like the idea but I know damn well my husband would forget which colour he was and my son would use it as a way of grossing out his sister by telling her he’d used hers whether he had or not . I’ll just have to carry on washing my lovely white towels every other day cos no one seems to be able to use a towel more then once in my house

Damntheman · 16/02/2019 17:12

We have our own colour because I am not sharing my towel with DH or DC thank you very much!

I grew up this way so it's nothing new to me. My sister and her DH share a towel and I find it really gross. If I suspect he used mine when visiting I have to get a new one just in case.. ugh

JeNeBaguetteRien · 16/02/2019 17:16

Oh no I really wouldn't want to share towels with anyone.
Don't have set towels for set people, have enough different colours or patterns that I know which one I used the day before.
Stayed in a house where they dried used towels in the dryer then put back in the cupboard Confused, grim, always brought my own after that.

Sukochicha · 16/02/2019 17:17

The towel sharing is strange to me. If you all have your own towels then your towel should always be dry when you want to use it and you know when it needs changing.

Everyone has their own towel. Hung up after use to dry. Washed weekly-ish. Different towels for the beach or swimming/gym.

Sukochicha · 16/02/2019 17:21

I grew up with colour coded towels so having ‘your’ towel seems normal to me.

BeanTownNancy · 16/02/2019 17:23

If yours were fuchsia pink flowery embroidered bath towels with lots of lace and ribbon trim, maybe he'd think twice about stuffing them in his gym bag.

Agreed. Buy towels he would be ashamed to use in public and he will avoid taking them out. It's a small price to pay, using a hideous towel in the privacy of your own home, to make sure he doesn't steal it. Grin

MrsPear · 16/02/2019 17:25

We store in separate places - mine is in bedroom and his in the bathroom. The kids have there own in favourite colours with names on. Stopped their arguments. When bil moved in I had to explain what each towel is used for - no concept that a hand towel is just for hands etc That did drive me mad but it improved my Albanian!

Cakeisbest · 16/02/2019 17:26

I’m starting to want to take my own towel to hotels as I can’t bear the thought of how many arses the towels have been around. I think I’ll take my own small towel for my face, and see if that helps me feel better.

bumblingbovine49 · 16/02/2019 17:35

We have a specific hand/ face towel that hangs by the sink and is changed every 2 days. The only rule is that this is not to be used for drying after baths/ showers
All other towels are shared on our house. We use whatever is there. They are washed every few days as well,

Vulpine · 16/02/2019 17:38

We use any towel. I figure people are clean when they use them

Lucywithout · 16/02/2019 17:43

Get some really pretty ones with embroidered pink flowers. They maybe would not be suitable for gym. Also a standing towel rail somewhere he cant just grab and keep yours there.
If you see him with your pretty ones immediately remove and wash on hot. Make a fuss!

RebootYourEngine · 16/02/2019 17:44

I wash my bath towels after every use so they are clean when being used. Why would you reuse a bath towel?

Vulpine · 16/02/2019 17:45

We reuse all our bath towels. They're not exactly dirty after drying one clean wet body

dementedpixie · 16/02/2019 17:46

Why would you wash after drying a clean body once? How wasteful

WinterHeatWave · 16/02/2019 17:46

We all have our own colours for towels.
My mum, who doesn't particularly like pink, has had pink towels for as long as I can remember, purely to prevent dad taking it!
