We don't need to worry about Brexit stockpiling, we need to worry about...

Exports. With imports we will have some teething problems and then we will be able to get things moving in again. The problem is going to be exporting. France and Ireland are having to build new facilities and recruit/train new border staff to deal with our exports. Look out especially for the meat industry and luxury fishing industry. And financial services. That's where we'll be fucked.

Or am I BU?

Uptheapplesandpears · 16/02/2019 11:27

We will indeed, but there's fuck all I personally can do about that, whereas I can get a stockpile on.

MyBaa · 16/02/2019 11:28

Well the meat industry is responsible for a lot of damage to our environment anyway. Fish is full of chemicals and plastic these days. I advise everyone to start eating a vegetarian diet asap.

gamerchick · 16/02/2019 11:30

No.

CountFosco · 16/02/2019 11:33

Sure, lets all go veggie because you can grow so many vegetables on the hill farms of Wales and Scotland. They are just perfect for economically viable fruit farms as well. What were all these farmers thinking? And growing fruit and veg is so good for the local environment because far far fewer pesticides are used on fruit and veg farms in comparison to pasture for livestock.

FriarTuck · 16/02/2019 11:37

As I don't personally export anything I think I'll concentrate on stocking up with toilet rolls and food. I'm not going to worry about something I have zero control over.

TaimaandRanyasBestFriend · 16/02/2019 11:42

Nope. NFW. I stockpile.

Namechangedforthis79 · 16/02/2019 11:45

There's a brexit board for this sort of scaremongering.

badlydrawnperson · 16/02/2019 11:49

Why in the name of flip is everyone panicking about bog rolls of all things?

Dotty1970 · 16/02/2019 12:01

Can't understand stock piling toilet rolls! Food yes but surely if there was literally no toilet rolls to be found you could manage with something else!

badlydrawnperson · 16/02/2019 12:04

@Dotty1970 exactly - also heard of someone stockpiling cat food as the cats will only eat a particular kind. Aside from the fact most of it seems to come from Thailand anyway I think other stuff would be higher up my list. To listen to some folk we'll be having to eat our cats anyway.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 16/02/2019 12:05

The European press has been predicting a severe toilet roll shortage for the UK in the event of a no deal. I read while on holiday that something like 75% of the loo roll used in the UK is imported or manufactured using imported materials. The article I read had a slightly mocking undertone but I have since seen these claims repeated as a given.

HTH Smile

badlydrawnperson · 16/02/2019 12:06

I mean - we've got nothing to eat but at least the cat is Ok and I can wipe my arse......

paintinmyhairAgain · 16/02/2019 12:08

loo roll stocking up ? it's to do with the import of paper pulp and problems in the event of no deal brexit. there is a company in the uk who makes loo rolls for many brands in the country and he has been advised to stock up the raw materials. the confederation of paper industries reported on this back in january.

paintinmyhairAgain · 16/02/2019 12:10

badly this is obviously winding you up, why is that ?

MyBaa · 16/02/2019 12:11

The sheer panic when anyone suggests not eating meat is funny to me. I KNOW not everyone has a garden but a lot of people do. If they grew their own veg, they'd feel a lot more confident. You can harvest the seeds too.

FriarTuck · 16/02/2019 12:15

There are some foods developed for specific veterinary needs (kidney, urinary etc.) that come from Germany - because there aren't that many alternatives available (and because cats are such awkward sods) some of us feel the need to ensure that we have a decent supply.

Unescorted · 16/02/2019 12:16

Most people will be effected by the supply side shock of Brexit initially, not the export.

For those people who are saying we get this and that from outside the Eu and therefore it will all be fine - our erstwhile government has managed to negotiate 4 trade deals with Switzerland, Chile, Faroes and Zimbabwe out of the estimated 69 countries with whom we have non EU trade with. These are countries who we had previously had negotiated trade deals with - that we were told in 2016 we could simply transfer the existing deals across into UK law. You know the Easiest Deals that would be signed a second after we voted to leave. Further they have managed to push China into cancelling trade talks because of a stupid bellicose speech about sending military hardware to the South China Sea. They are beyond incompetent.

paintinmyhairAgain · 16/02/2019 12:19

mybaa nature has a habit of growing stuff when she wants to,not because of the risk of a no deal.because there will always be some numpty who wants english apples in april /may. sorry folks you are going to be disappointed.

allthatmalarkey · 16/02/2019 12:23

For those saying you don't export anything, I bet you use education and healthcare that is paid for by the tax revenue paid by people and companies who export. I should think you'll
miss that. But point taken about stockpiling being within your control.

OP posts:
allthatmalarkey · 16/02/2019 12:25

And my DH grows his own veg. Don't tell him, but it's kind of inedible and what I do eat I do to humour him.

OP posts:
paintinmyhairAgain · 16/02/2019 12:28

all what on earth does he grow ?

bellinisurge · 16/02/2019 12:31

Of course we need exports. We need a strong economy. We are flushing it down the toilet if we No Deal.
I prep because I can't guarantee that No Deal will be avoided.

scaryteacher · 16/02/2019 12:39

Unescorted International waters have to stay open. Sending ships there, as we and the U.S. do, prevent China from turning the South China sea into their own personal pond, a bit like Russia views the Barents. Can you imagine if we didn't permit shipping across and through the English Channel; that's where China is heading, and they are also the ones trying to militarise the South China Seas by claiming islands they are not entitled to and building military facilities on them. China would like to be able to choke the trade $5.2 trillions worth, so it can control it.

MyBaa · 16/02/2019 12:40

Malarkey also curious to know what he grows. How is it inedible? Does he pick it too soon? It's kind of hard to fuck up a carrot.
