To consider it mine now?

Monday evening I found a Tesco delivery crate by the side of the road, complete with shopping in it.

I phoned Tesco and ended up speaking to their helpdesk in Dundee (I think) and explained that I had the crate, the name and numbers on the side, listed the shopping it contained, and asked what to do with it? They phoned back once they had worked out which store the delivery was from, but said that because the home delivery team had finished for the day that they would need to call back on Tuesday to resolve what to do with it.

It's now Friday, and apart from the original callback, I have heard nothing from them. AIBU to think I've done my bit, and if they don't want to collect it then its now mine?

I would continue to ignore it, but amongst other things there are some nice biscuits which are calling to me to be eaten.

Yours. Biscuit Brew

Metaplasia · 15/02/2019 17:04

The people who ordered the shopping have probably replaced it by now so I'd just keep it

Amy326 · 15/02/2019 17:05

I would consider it mine now! It’s their own fault for not sorting it out! Surely some of the food will go off anyway soon and if you hadn’t taken it inside and stored it properly then it would all be unusable anyway? Use it, I doubt they’re planning to collect it if they haven’t already done so

TheInvestigator · 15/02/2019 17:06

They'll have already sent replacements to whoever ordered it, or refunded them, and they won't be able to re-sell that food now that it's had an adventure so keep It!

If they get back in touch, tell them you left it on your doorstep as you thought they'd come to collect it and now it's gone.

UsedtobeFeckless · 15/02/2019 17:07

When the Universe sends you biscuits ...Wink

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 15/02/2019 17:07

I would assume the people who were originally expecting the shopping have had it replaced by now and the message left when you rang has not been passed on. I would simply keep the shopping, not much point trying to report it again.

On a separate note if you need the crate taking off your hands try asking local nurseries or Reception classes, they are normally very grateful for crates to use in free play. Grin

Okay, mine then...

I've never tried Bahlsen Choco Leibniz before, but they look interesting. Time for tea and biscuits!

Gotthetshirt23 · 15/02/2019 17:19

They are lush Biscuit

Fluffyears · 15/02/2019 17:20

Oh choco Leibniz are brilliant. Enjoy them.

ThreeAnkleBiters · 15/02/2019 17:21

I'd nab the biscuits at the very least. Tesco probably will just bin it once it's been lying around in the street for days anyway.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 15/02/2019 17:29

I’m curious- what else was in there? Grin

SabineUndine · 15/02/2019 17:30

I hope they're the dark chocolate ones, they are the best.

nugget900 · 15/02/2019 17:31

It would be wrong to take it. It's not yours, you didn't pay for it. You shouldn't just assume that the people who bought it don't want it. It got lost through no fault of their own. You should wait until Tuesday to return it.

colditz · 15/02/2019 17:33

Reading comprehension, Nugget

Di11y · 15/02/2019 17:34

I for one would never want food that had been adopted by a stranger for 5 days! I'm sure you could tell the supermarket you've disposed of it as they didn't get back to you. perhaps take the crate to your local Tesco next next time you're there.

ReanimatedSGB · 15/02/2019 17:34

You've made the effort and, as PP have said, the stuff is going to be chucked by Tescos if they do reclaim it. IF they get in touch next week, whining, you could point out that they waited a whole week before getting in touch so you made the reasonable assumption that they weren't going to bother. You could maybe make a donation to a food bank or something if you want to 'pay it forward'.

bridgetreilly · 15/02/2019 17:35

You should wait until Tuesday to return it.

I assumed from the OP that she found the crate several days ago and they were supposed to contact her this Tuesday, not next week. I really think it's fine to assume that they aren't coming to pick it up now.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/02/2019 17:35

never tried Bahlsen Choco Leibniz
What have you been doing all your life OP?!

I would expect Tesco to write it off. Eat it or give it to the food bank. You were right to report it but the opportunity for them to retrieve it has passed.

Drum2018 · 15/02/2019 17:36

Keep it. If there were perishable items I doubt the original owner would want them after a week.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/02/2019 17:38

Yes, what else is in there? I'd eat the perishable stuff and donate some of the non perishables to the food bank to keep the crate police happy.

Tesco might collect the crate at some point, but they will have to bin the food due to non refrigeration and it being out of their control etc, so at least it won't get wasted.

GingerRogers84 · 15/02/2019 17:38

What else was in there OP?

ATBhinchers · 15/02/2019 17:38

What else was there ? Lucky you. Choco Leibniz are the crack of the biscuit world - try them but you'll never be able to walk past them in the shop again! So delicious.

SeeSpotRun · 15/02/2019 17:39

@Fluffy
Two boxes of the biscuits, which are the dark ones and very, very lush I have discovered.
Lindt Excellence Caramel chocolate.
6 x 1.5 litre bottles of water.
A box of Yorkshire tea bags.
Tin foil.
Bleach.
Washing capsules.

NannyRed · 15/02/2019 17:48

Eat the biscuits, deny all fucking knowledge of the box.

Not your circus, not your monkeys.
