It's 12 degrees and dry and sunny today. That's fine for drying, isn't it? Doubting myself as none of my neighbours seem to be drying stuff outside yet.

I dry outside all year round. Of course it's fine. As long as it's not raining stuff will dry.

Aph413 · 15/02/2019 11:48

I've been drying outside whenever the ground is dry and the sun is out. I'm also terrible for leaving it out overnight if it isn't raining as I'm finding if I bring it in when it's dark out it can feel damp.
So I'd say go for it

Grosserygangrule · 15/02/2019 11:48

My sheets are currently on the line

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/02/2019 11:49

I thought about this yesterday. It's definitely warm enough to get the washing out - only caveat is do it early as it cools off and gets dark early still.

I always find that I get out of the habit of hanging it out and it takes a few missed good days before I realise I can hang outside. So I wouldn't take what the neighbours do as any sort of indication. If you want to do it, do it.

Kpo58 · 15/02/2019 11:49

I have washing outside to dry. I have little hope of it doing so as my garden is in shade all and and there is currently no breeze, but at least it will smell fresher. Hmm

unexpectedthird · 15/02/2019 11:49

I have washing out today. As long as it's mild enough, I put it out all year round.

Glitterblue · 15/02/2019 11:49

I never stop. I just go by the weather. Its 9 degrees here today and I've got the bedding on the line. It doesn't always dry properly but dries much quicker inside after it's been out, or needs only a very short while in the drier. I'd go for it. We don't have neighbours so I don't know if anyone else has theirs out or not.

TooManyGlasses · 15/02/2019 11:49

I hung a couple of blankets out the other morning as an experiment, and because they were too big to hang indoors. The thinner one dried well but I still had to finish the thicker one off indoors in the late afternoon when it was getting colder and damper. I would hang them out as early as possible though to get the maximum amount of drying time.

VanillaSauce · 15/02/2019 11:50

If the ground is dry then the washing will dry.

Nubbled · 15/02/2019 11:50

I've got washing out right now, and had two loads out yesterday. Go for it.

babysharkah · 15/02/2019 11:50

My line isn't in the sun at this time of year but if it was I would hang outside today.

MumW · 15/02/2019 11:52

My washing goes out so long as it isn't raining or one of those damp days where the moisture hangs in the air.

Even if it doesn't dry completely, it smells so much better and seems to dry off more quickly inside even when it still feels as wet as when I put it out.

Collidascope · 15/02/2019 11:54

Thanks, everyone.

My Nana always said if it's enough to dry the flags then it's enough to dry your washing.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/02/2019 12:01

I'm another one who dries washing outside all year (I don't have a tumble dryer...saving the planet one load at a time!) and it is amazing how things dry with a bit of wind. You don't even need sunshine.

Yesterday I did my sofa covers and cushion covers and they were perfectly dry by the afternoon.

Hushnownobodycares · 15/02/2019 12:09

Another all year round. Even when it's damp out it dries a bit and finishes quicker inside. Smells better too.

Inforthelonghaul · 15/02/2019 12:16

North facing garden here so not till March when sun starts to make its way in otherwise stuff stays on line for days and just stays cold and damp

SpoonBlender · 15/02/2019 12:37

Sunny and/or over 15C, stuff goes outside.

Vinorosso74 · 15/02/2019 12:39

Another one with no tumble dryer so as long as it's a dry day out it goes. Have some hanging outside now which is nearly dry.

SweetheartNeckline · 15/02/2019 12:41

I dry outside all year round even on overcast days. As PP says the wind can help a huge amount. I put out for at least 6 hours if it's dry and usually only have to finish off a few items on the airer.

Lllot5 · 15/02/2019 13:15

I’ve got mine out. First time for ages wahoo. I love doing laundry(weird but there you are).

megletthesecond · 15/02/2019 13:17

All year round here too.
I don't iron and the creases drop out on the line.

Bloodymary · 15/02/2019 13:24

I got a load of towels dry outside yesterday...…...I was stupidly excited Blush

EthelHornsby · 15/02/2019 13:25

Whenever it’s sunny with enough breeze to dry them. Why do you need the advice of strangers about when to hang your own washing on your own washing line?

Grimbles · 15/02/2019 13:27

Its air movement rather than temperature thsts more important when dfying clothes.

Water molecules are attracted to each other so if there is no breeze to carry them away the water is more likely to be held for longer in the fabric.
