Name changed for obvious reasons but just that really - I'm 38 years old with one baby and I've just been told I have a prolapse that will need surgery once I 'finish my family' but in the meantime, here have this giant piece of rubber to shove up your bits every day to hold everything in place.

Yay! I can totally see me getting preggers again with all that going on!

Pretty gutted really. Anyone got any happy stories of how this happened to you but it all got magically fixed/you woke up and it was just a dream?? Or failing that I'll take gallows humour to cheer me up.

I should warn you that a CS is not necessarily a protection. Two elective CSs left me with increasing urinary incontinence, till I ended up dribbling even when walking, like a bloody mouse. And a prolapse (though not yet bad enough to need surgery or a lump of rubber).

However, a sort of happy ending. Doing Kegels religiously didn't do anything to help, apart from drawing praise for my "nice strong muscles" from various medics. But then one persuaded me to try, "just for a fortnight", giving up tea, coffee, chocolate and alcohol (So the four major food groups). To my intense fury, it improved the symptoms, and now, a year after a year of being caffeine free, the incontinence has gone. So now I'm one of those nuisance people who always asks for decaff, but on the plus side I can now walk briskly with no problems whatever. (I've not tried a bouncy castle yet.)

1 baby. Forceps delivery. Botched episiotomy. 8 years on PIV sex is impossible. All treatment has been exhausted and the only other option is surgery which has at best a 50/50 chance of slight improvement v making it worse.

Wouldn’t be without her, but fuck me, I wish I’d known then what I know now.

Islathepaella · 15/02/2019 22:28

MrsPear what an awful experience, I can’t believe the response from the midwife was “all women bleed after childbirth” and laughing! Angry you must have been in complete agony, I’m glad you’re feeling better now and it’s been corrected (shame it took so long though) Flowers

Boobiliboobiliboo · 15/02/2019 22:29

The (female) locum GP who told me to “grin and bear it for my DH’s sake” was a particular highlight. Angry

caringcarer · 15/02/2019 22:39

Internal tears here with first child. Second child smaller and easy delivery and third by elective section. I am OK most of the time except when I have a hacking cough and then I have to use night time Tena Lady which are like nappies.

noraclavicle · 15/02/2019 22:45

Fucking hell..if men had to go through this there’d be heaven and earth moved to find solutions! Push for support, OP - sorry the stories are less than positive, but a problem shared and all that. It’s about time women got better help.

Pigriver · 15/02/2019 22:52

I had an induction, forceps and episiotomy. Ds did not want to be born at 2 weeks overdue.
Stitches were agony and got infected. Still not right 6 weeks on so I had to beg GP to look at 6 week check. She wasn’t interested. Pushed for a referral and was finally seen when ds was 5 months. Was told scar hadn’t healed as expected, pelvic floor was shot and I had a mild prolapse. I also couldn’t push out a poo and became reliant on laxatives. The physio team were great.
Had some sort of healing light shone on my bits to heal up the wound and reduce pain, pelvic floor excercises and when they didn’t do the job properly a gizmo like a tens that stimulates your fanjo.
The physio finished by the time ds was 1 yo but the slight prolapse remained and I was told they wouldn’t do anything until I finished having kids. Sex is ok but the scar still hurts when I have my period.

I am now pregnant again and will be requesting a ELCS. My pelvic floor gave up at the moment of conception and I’m back to struggling to poo.

Tixywixy · 15/02/2019 23:11

I really would be checked out by a specialist physio and do something like a holistic core restore course. I did one thirteen years after having my second and it genuinely improved my pelvic floor, whereas before I had urinary incontinence.

userschmoozer · 15/02/2019 23:12

I had a second degree tear which somehow got left off my medical records. So I had a smear a few years later and my doctor finds a huge lump...

fancynancyclancy · 15/02/2019 23:15

It’s really shit what women have to go through & how we are meant to just live with it.

However as a pp said CS’s are not necessarily a protection against prolapse or incontinence, pregnancy alone causes lots of damage. My friend has had prolapse surgery & only ever had CS’s. DC2 was a ELCS (unstable lie) & I’ve noticed a difference in my pelvic floor whereas after DC1 which was a VB (no intervention/couple of stitches) my pelvic floor was fine. However with DC1 I did lots of pregnancy yoga & kegal exercises so maybe that makes a difference. No time for it with DC2.

ohmywhattodo · 15/02/2019 23:22

Well 8 babies (1 emcs, 1 forceps with episiotomy, 6 natural) have a prolapse but it’s not too bad although GP did say she could feel me “clenching” down there 🤦🏼‍♀️ And at last smear test Nurse did say I had the easiest cervix to find (thought crossed my mind that actually that was because it’s basically not where it should be) - so I’d say yes...my nether region is knackered...pretty literally!! 😳

AtSea1979 · 15/02/2019 23:23

I had an epidural, episiotomy and rotational ventouse and DC was well over 10lb. I came here to say yes as tons of stitches but no lasting side effects. My pelvic floor is as good as it was, no prolapses, sex the same as before etc. So for those who are pregnant try not to worry!

novasglowx · 15/02/2019 23:23

2nd degree tear with a very poor repair job, things are not where they were supposed to be, but everything functions as expected. Too embarrassed to ask them to fix it

ohmywhattodo · 15/02/2019 23:23

Should read GP couldn’t feel me...

AntiHop · 15/02/2019 23:33

1 baby. Bladder and bowel prolapse. Bowel is quite minor. I use moviciol every day to make things easier. Doctor says I can have bladder dealt with once I've decided I'm not trying for baby, or had another baby. He said non surgical options. And like others, orgasm is less intense.

Iused2BanOptimist · 15/02/2019 23:38

Irh3891
But my biggest problem is the haemorrhoids. It's awful :(

I finally had a haemorroidectomy last year. A lot more painful than I expected. Six weeks off work as most of my days post op revolved around the loo. (Lots of laxatives, ducked behind a bush on morning dog walk a few timesBlush) But so worth it. No more pain/bleeding etc. You can get it sorted.

silvercuckoo · 15/02/2019 23:40

Third degree tear, dual incontinence (now more or less managed, very bad during the first year), husband has left due to the yuck factor within the first couple of months. Several repairs since (private, NHS does not consider this to be a priority condition), and I can proudly manage now 30 seconds from feeling the urge to shitting myself. No sensation in the perineum either as for many PPs. I get up at 5 am every day and have a deep enema, just to prevent any embarrassing accidents at work.

Heathcliff27 · 15/02/2019 23:49

Sorry to add to the bad stories but, 3 children all vaginal deliveries, horrendous prolapse after third (hanging out) only solution was full hysterectomy. Best thing i ever did

NewMummySarah · 22/04/2020 09:38

Hi ladies, I don’t suppose anyone on here has had success with a perineum repair? I have stage 1/2 rectocele and cystocele after first baby (14 months pp from VB) but have also just noticed that my perineum is really short now! Roughly half the length it used to be and is now only about 1cm - it’s tiny!!!
I’ve read that this can lead to rectocele as there is less perineum support for your bowels - has anyone just had the perineum repair? (Not the posterior vaginal wall repair too?) not sure if that is even possible - any similar stories would be good to hear...
I’ll ask my gynae about it at our next consultation but that’s 10 weeks away and feeling quite scared about my tiny perineum and big fanjo opening now!
