Would you be upset if you got nothing? Or is it just another holiday?

Nope. Cats don't have any money for flowers Grin

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 14/02/2019 06:45

I won't be getting anything and don't expect it. Been with dh 20 years, married 17.he shows me he loves me every day as do I him. He's away this year for work anyway. We've never done Valentines apart from the odd surprise a few times. I got him a small gift this year to make him laugh more thba anything. I thought the whole poi t was a valentine was from a secret admirer so I don't need one from the man I'm married to.

chaoscategorised · 14/02/2019 06:47

Nope.

Gooseysgirl · 14/02/2019 06:55

No... we both agree we can't be arsed

Pk37 · 14/02/2019 06:59

It’s not “just another holiday “ , it’s not a holiday at all .
It’s just another day and thankfully we both see it like this.
Why would I pay more to eat out just because of the date when I can go a day earlier or later for less ?
And no I’m not expecting anything and neither is my husband

CostanzaG · 14/02/2019 07:00

Yes and I'd be upset and shocked if he didn't bother/forgot.
We don't go all out just a card and a small gift but we enjoy treating each other to something we wouldn't necessarily buy for ourselves and have little traditions that we enjoy. We do the same on our anniversary.

DH has just told me he loves valentine's Day now he's with me 😍

NopeNi · 14/02/2019 07:02

No. It's all forced nonsense and I'd think he'd gone mad.

CuppaSarah · 14/02/2019 07:07

I'm expecting the kids to bring me something back from school and nursery, but that's it! Infact I was just given a Lego model from DD! I made the kids cards and got them a chocolate lollypop.

But me and DH don't do valentine's Day. DD has her birthday a few days later and we save our spare money for that. Plus it's not our thing. We make a biggish deal about our anniversary instead.

slcol · 14/02/2019 07:07

Nope, I very specifically asked him not to get a card etc. I know he loves me, he tells me/shows me every day...they're a waste of paper and money. Sometimes we might get a price something for dinner, but he's actually away today anyway so will be me and the kids.

Musicaltheatremum · 14/02/2019 07:11

First valentine's Day for us 6 months in. I made light of it and got a card and some chocolates. He bought beautiful earrings and gave me a beautiful card that wasn't a valentine's card but the words he wrote were so special. I'm lots for words now. I'm 55 hes 60

WetWipesGoInTheBin · 14/02/2019 07:11

I've got mine. I got my DP one as his birthday is in the latter half of the year and its just an excuse to give him a pampering gift.

foxessocks · 14/02/2019 07:12

We haven't bothered with cards this year but we discussed it first , we never write anything in it apart from lots of love so it feels pointless! But I did get a dine in for two meal yesterday so we'll have dinner without the kids for a change Grin and dh has left a box of chocolates by the bed (they look christmassy so I suspect he's got a big discount there Grin)

WetWipesGoInTheBin · 14/02/2019 07:14

Oh last year we didn't give each other anything but this year we have a baby and have shared parental leave so one is more knackered than the other at different points.

LoubyLou1234 · 14/02/2019 07:16

My partner was the one who started our celebration of it. Card, flowers and a meal usually. Nothing massive. Nice to do something nice when jan/Feb are nothing months post Christmas
For the record we have a great relationship all year round ( 8 years) and show we love each other in other ways too. Like he makes me a brew in a morning, I bought him chocolate as he had a stressful workday yesterday.

SileneOliveira · 14/02/2019 07:18

I would be shocked if I got anything. DH and I don't "do" Valentines at all, never have and never will. It's just one massive tat fest.

In fact, before he left for work he said something along the lines of, "and you'll be getting your valentine's gift tonight if you're lucky". Hmm so predictable.

JacquesHammer · 14/02/2019 07:34

God no, I’ve got a FWB. If I get a Valentine’s Card it’s over!

HostessTrolley · 14/02/2019 07:47

Been married over 20 years and he’s away with work Monday to Friday. Don’t generally ‘do’ valentines but will go out for a meal for two this weekend.

I am happy though as I’ll be completely on my own tonight. Dd (18) has her first non-single valentines, her boyf invited her over to his from school, he’s cooking for her (his parents are going out) and she’s staying over - they normally don’t see each other much during the week. She was dumped two days before valentines by her first love a couple of years ago and has had a rough ride since then, so I’m happy that she’s with someone lovely who’s going to some effort to make her feel special. She’s intrigued as he doesn’t cook.

Palegreenstars · 14/02/2019 07:56

I don’t hate Valentine’s Day and we’ve celebrated from time to time but not really. Neither of us have mentioned it today. Romance throughout is my preference. The Hallmark stuff is a little unimaginative so when we do it, it’s possibly a sign that we’ve been a bit lazy in the romance department recently and need a reminder.

LilaJude · 14/02/2019 07:58

No, we don’t do anything. I would actually be annoyed to get something because I didn’t get anything for DH! But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with couples who do, and if there is an expectation of it then both people should fulfil that.

Paddington68 · 14/02/2019 08:00

Got some nice chocolate, a card and some cheese on toast popcorn. (yum)
Gave card and nice chocolates, that had been heavily hinted at.

Gave us both a moment to pause. Was nice.

After a year that was to put it mildly hellish, I am hugely thankful.

All you need is love.

LoudestRoar · 14/02/2019 08:01

We said a cheerful 'happy commercialised bullshit day' to each other this morning, and that's it Smile
Although, I am using it as an excuse to have a nicer than normal meal tonight....

labazsisgoingmad · 14/02/2019 08:05

dp bought me a lovely bouquet of flowers complete surprise said to him dont worry about valentines day he went out the door to work as usual then 2 mins later popped back must have been hiding flowers in the boot of the car!

AlphaJuno · 14/02/2019 08:08

No because I haven't got him anything. I never used to bother with previous partners as always found it a bit cheesy! This one has bothered previous years even though I said not to because I wasn't into it. Or we've been out for a meal on the weekend. I'm not expecting anything today though because I don't think he knows it's Valentine's Day tbh. I certainly haven't mentioned it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/02/2019 08:08

I don’t even know if he knows it’s Valentine’s Day Grin as we don’t normally buy cards etc but this year I bought him a card and a small gift and put it his laptop case to surprise him when he gets to work.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 14/02/2019 08:11

I got him a novelty present (home made silliness, not expensive) and he's got me a bottle of champagne, both did cards and we are going away for the weekend.

But we have only been together for a couple of years.

Me and XH did cards sometimes, less frequently in the run up to the divorce obviously Grin
