Sisters car

nugget900 · 13/02/2019 21:29

My sister has two very tall teenagers, a dog, and a partner. According to my sister her kids are always complaining that the car is "too small". She on the other hand thinks otherwise. She has a five seater car. She lives in the UK so the car she has isn't all that spacious. I think technically it's a 4 seater as the middle seat in the second row is half the size of the seats beside it so only her dog can fit on that, hardly, and is squashed up against her kids. Her autistic daughter is very sensitive to her dog, and it makes her daughter have meltdowns, yet my sister won't get rid of the dog despite. One of my sisters kids have autism and require about as many things as a baby does if not more. My sisters kids have barely any room to put their things let alone move their limbs and it's very compact and uncomfortable for them. They live in a rural area so they travel for hours at a time to get anywhere. I told my sister I think she's being unreasonable having such a small car based on the size of her kids and the amount of things she needs to haul. She said she doesn't like big cars and therefore isn't getting one. Aibu to think she's being unreasonable for this?

My three 6 foot tall db fitted fine into the back seat of our family car with no adverse effects. My tall sister and I, along with the family German Shepherd fitted fine in the boot!

This was in the early 70s before seat belts in the back seats. Your sisters kids will be fine! The only thing is be concerned about is if the dog was restrainted, it is illegal and dangerous if not.

@emzw12

I have to call you out on that one.
Obviously my sisters choice of car isn't my ONLY problem.

Kids / teens will be fine Hmm your sister is driving the car she feels safe driving and you think she's unreasonable?! Remove your head from your backside and realise yabu!

nugget900 · 13/02/2019 22:01

I'm bothered about my sisters car because her car is clearly too small for the people and things inside of it. Sitting in a car, hardly being able to move for long periods of time can actually cause body problems Sad

And in response to the person speaking about the mini, did your ex just so happen to be the driver or in the passenger side? The backseats provide allot less room in minis and I know because been in one unless you're speaking about a newer version.

Where are they going on these long journeys?

BaronessBomburst · 13/02/2019 22:03

What make and model of car does she actually drive?

Mayrhofen · 13/02/2019 22:03
Biscuit
emzw12 · 13/02/2019 22:04

But why is your sister's choice of car ANY problem at all to you...
Don't waste your energy worrying about things that aren't your business. Use your energy to worry about the things that are your business.

TheCanyon · 13/02/2019 22:05

nugget900 I have to say I quite like you, you do sound a bit trollesque batshit, but if you aren't, then your sister is NBU... but neither are you. Fuck sake

nugget900 · 13/02/2019 22:06

@BaronessBomburst

Toyota RAV4 three door ( very old version )

OP posts:
MrsJDornan · 13/02/2019 22:08

I thought the RAV4 was quite spacious?

MrsJDornan · 13/02/2019 22:09

Sorry missed the 3 door bit

UrsulaPandress · 13/02/2019 22:09

Ha ha ha

Bryjam · 13/02/2019 22:11

So you have issues with your sisters parenting? Because giving a shit about her car is damn weird. Unless you think her children are at risk generally.p, in which case you should just make a new thread about that and get some decent advice. This car shit is not going to get you anywhere.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/02/2019 22:16

YABU and weird!

Unless the teens are 7 foot and weigh 30 stone then a RAV4 is plenty big enough

Singlenotsingle · 13/02/2019 22:17

What's wrong with a RAV4? I thought you were talking about a Nissan Micra or a Fiat 500! Grin

Nicknacky · 13/02/2019 22:18

There is nothing small about a RAV4

nugget900 · 13/02/2019 22:18

@Singlenotsingle

It's a RAV4 three door. That's why.

OP posts:
shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/02/2019 22:20

A 3 door is no smaller once you're inside

Witchend · 13/02/2019 22:22

I remember travelling 300miles with my parents, my sister, my gran and her dog in a mini.

The next year we got a mini clubman and thought we knew what spacious was. 😀

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 13/02/2019 22:23

Ffs that car is not that small! I really thought you were going to say she had something much smaller, I drive a smart and was thinking something not much bigger than that! My mum always had fairly compact cars and we never had a 5 door. My sister is very tall and I'm not exactly short myself. They will all be fine. Let them be. At least they have a car! Public transport would be harder surely?

WhatTheNightBrings · 13/02/2019 22:27

3 people in a car?

Of course there's fucking space.

AvaTheGardener · 13/02/2019 22:34

If a RAV4 is a 'small car', I can't wait to find out what the 'rural area' the OP's sister lives in. Bristol? The really remote bits of Birmingham?

Bryjam · 13/02/2019 22:36

It's a RAV4 three door

Presumably she lets them get in through the door though and doesn't expect them to climb through the back windows Grin

DorothyZbornak · 13/02/2019 22:43

YABVU for using the phrase 'gifted' Hmm
