AIBU partner 'wasting' money on chiropractor?

I work, partner is a SAHP. Today I find out that they have just spent £150 on a chiropractor.

My partner has a bad back, but I'm annoyed because I think it is a lot of money, I don't believe in chiropractic medicine, £80 was for an x ray which seems pointless to me when you can see the shape of someone's spine. Also there is no money in the joint account until a few days time so has gone on a credit card.

If it was for physio and we had agreed the spend I think I'd have been supportive.

AIBU to be pissed off?

I see my chiropractor every 2 months and he has sorted my back pain lots of times. I have been seeing him for at least 15 years and he’s never taken an x ray of me.
He costs £41 per visit and it’s worth it to me.
I wouldn’t consult DH as I work so I earn it, I spend it but tbh if I didn’t earn it I would still think it was worth it.

What a supportive partner you are, a delight!

I really hope you never find yourself with a chronic condition and are obliged to seek out treatment that works for you except you have to pay for because it’s not available in the NHS (No criticism of NHS intended) 😤

Short term fix. You need to address the underlying problem. That is what physio exercises do. There is a reason you get physio therapy on the NHS but not (or v rarely) a chiropractor.

Lost count of the number of times I was back and forth to my GP with my back. Took 10 years to get past the "people your age don't get back pain, but here's some pain killers now go away" and get sent to physio. physio gave me exercises. I couldn't do the exercises because I had no mobility in my back to do the exercises (I didn't know at the time). Physio insisted this would magically occur if I kept trying to do the exercises. It didn't. Following year I was back at GP, another referral for physio. Same exercises given, which I explained already didn't work. "Keep trying to do the exercises." I gave up mentioning my back issues to the GP, and went to see an osteopath. Osteopath explained what was causing my back problems and started the long journey of getting them sorted. During that time, I took advantage of an offer to go see a chiropractor and have x-rays of my back. They revealed wear and tear at a level that wasn't right for my age and confirmed what I had been told by the osteopath.
Thanks to the osteopath, I only need to go once a year to have one troublesome area readjusted or if I've been an idiot and caused a relapse of the problems. Osteo and chiropractor both agreed separately that I will probably need surgery to sort out the problem. GP refuses to believe I have back issues anywhere near that bad I should be referred anywhere else but a physio.
Physios don't always work. They certainly never have for me. A good osteopath or chiropractor will give you the exact same exercises a physio does. The difference is, in my experience, the physio doesn't care if you don't have enough mobility in your back for the exercises to work. An osteopath or chiropractor will help give you the mobility in your back for the exercises to work.
